Chapter 439

Chapter 439 The Great Deceiver

The mask was one of those rather exaggerated Rakshasa masks, which indeed had a pretty decent effect. Anyway, after Xia Xinyan glanced at Ling Mo, she didn’t look at him again.

However, Ling Mo wasn’t affected at all; this is probably what they call “beauty in the eye of the beholder.”

After prepping himself, Ling Mo jumped down first, landing right in-between those Demons and that man.

Seeing this, Xia Xinyan followed suit and landed a step behind him.

Their sudden appearance startled the man — even though they had been observing from the rooftop for a while, his entire attention had been on the Demons in front of him, unable to spare a thought for anything else. So, to him, it came as quite a shock.

After the surprise came confusion —

There are other humans here?

Although they were wearing those bizarre masks, surely it couldn’t mean there were beings among these Demons that looked just like humans? Besides, the auras of these two didn’t seem very Demonic.

At least, he couldn’t sense it.

After pondering for a few seconds, he raised the loudspeaker and asked again, “Who are you two?”

“You just said, ‘Great King.’” Ling Mo purposely lowered his voice to create a different tone, “Now, we’re here.”

“You… are the kings here?!” The man gasped, “You’ve controlled those Demons?! How is that even possible?!”

Things that even they in Eden had yet to accomplish, how could these two do it first?

Ling Mo chuckled mockingly, but the man couldn’t see his expression beneath the mask: “Ridiculous… control? They are our subordinates.”

Saying this, Ling Mo lightly raised a hand and pointed at the man: “By my command — surround him.”

This was just the opportunity to test how obedient these Demons were. If that woman really informed all the Demons in the city, then even with masks on, there was no reason these Demons wouldn’t recognize them — after all, aside from them, there was probably only that woman left in this city that looked like this.

Judging by the results of the test, it went quite well.

The Demons paused for a moment and seemed to finally realize that Ling Mo was commanding them. After a bit of shuffling, they obediently gathered around, surrounding the man in the middle, led by Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan.

Given their stance, it looked like they were about to turn this visiting guest into a complete fool at any moment.

The pressure on the man escalated instantly, and he immediately posed defensively — but after glancing around, he realized that if these Demons really wanted to pummel him, it might be more comfortable to just give up resisting.

At least the duration of his pain would be shorter.

Fortunately for him, these Demons didn’t immediately act — probably because they understood that Ling Mo just wanted to surround him and not necessarily kill him.

Moreover, Ling Mo felt that the overwhelming killing intent from these guys was likely due to the two of them — after all, being commanded by two individuals who looked much weaker was definitely frustrating.

But… this seemed to prove that woman’s high status in the eyes of these Demons.

The man then noticed that these Demons didn’t seem to intend to act. He soon realized — these Demons really seemed to be listening to this man’s orders.

This left him quite shocked — he felt he had to find a way to report this to Eden. Other humans had gotten ahead and controlled these Demons; they could even make these Demons follow orders… If this situation could be duplicated, it would surpass Eden’s original plan by multiple times and could instantly turn them from being subjugated by Demons to commanding them.

While pondering these matters, the man kept talking: “Listen… I mean you no harm… You… even though I don’t know who you are, if you can make so many Demons obey you, you must be on the same side as them; you’re with us in Eden…”

Pausing for a moment, he continued, “I don’t know if you heard my earlier announcement, but we in Eden received reliable intelligence indicating that human forces are uniting to prepare for an expedition. Their aim is to kill all Demons — if they discover you are together with the Demons, they certainly won’t spare you.”

Then, with a serious expression, he summarized: “But we in Eden have a continuous and stable intelligence source on the human side; if we collaborate, using your Demonic strength alongside our human connections, we will surely defeat those fools’ expedition. Do you understand?”

Ling Mo felt an inexplicable urge to laugh.

This man seems to have mistaken them for humans controlling these Demons?

After thinking it over, he asked, “You… have a stable intelligence source on the human side?”

“Yes, we…” As the man spoke, he suddenly froze, a glint of caution flashing across his face. He then cleared his throat and changed the subject, “Anyway, we in Eden can know all the news about the expedition and significant events at the first moment. If we work together, we will definitely win.”

Ling Mo raised an eyebrow.

It looks like there’s a spy among the expedition team…

After a pause, he continued to ask, “You’re a human too, so why do you want humans to fail?”

“Because their plan is utterly foolish!” The man instantly grew agitated, “This was never a disaster from the beginning! It’s a salvation from God! An opportunity for evolution given to humans! Humanity has stagnated for too long! And now, the esteemed leader has grasped this point first and seen the ultimate form of evolution, and these Demons! They are humanity’s guides, our esteemed! Big brothers! Those idiots are actually plotting to kill their brothers! They’re simply as foolish as can be!”

After a brief pause, the man declared with righteous fervor, “So, we must stop humans from making a grave error and bring them back to the correct path! Humanity should complete this glorious evolution together and enter a whole new world! To achieve this, it can only be done under the leadership of Eden!”

Ling Mo stared at him for a while, shrugged, “But what does that have to do with us Demons?”

“Aren’t you humans too?! We are of the same kind! You can’t stand aside!” the man shouted.

Ling Mo scoffed again, “When did we ever say we are of the same kind? You don’t really think that just because you look a little like us, that makes you… what’s it called, human, right?”

The man paused.

Then he finally reacted, his expression changing abruptly.

He… had walked into a massive misunderstanding!

He thought! How could these two be commanding those Demons and still possibly be human!
