Chapter 435
Chapter 435 The Learning Ability of Demons
Xia Xinyan slightly noticed the monster fish’s expression twisted briefly before returning to normal.
As for what this guy was thinking, only it would know.
After all, different races have different ways of thinking, and Xia Xinyan could hardly guess anything—however, she felt that if she were in its shoes, she’d probably start considering how to flip the table upon hearing such words.
She inexplicably felt that this woman was sowing discord among them.
So after pondering for two seconds, Xia Xinyan spoke up, “Actually, there’s no need for that. Aren’t they all your… subordinates? There’s no need to kill them just because they’re disobedient, right?”
“Only those who obey have the right to be called my subjects; those who disobey are just a bunch of damned trash.” The woman’s words were as blunt as they come, “To me, those trash are no different from the lowly creatures in this city, and their fate will be the same as those lowly beings—turned into meat paste on the ground.”
Xia Xinyan was momentarily taken aback.
Is she referring to those undead bodies in the city? It seems this woman was indeed behind it.
Is this considered… clearing out dissenters?
Ling Mo couldn’t help but ask, “Aren’t you worried that if you oppress them too harshly, your subordinates will rebel against you?”
“If they come, then let them come,” the woman showed no concern whatsoever, “The sooner those damned trash die, the better.”
Ling Mo fell silent.
He felt there really wasn’t anything more they could discuss with this person.
Thinking they understood her point, the woman then asked, “You haven’t damaged that piece of treasure land, right?”
“No,” Xia Xinyan shook her head, “Do you live there?”
“I don’t live there,” the woman turned and pointed in a direction, “I live at the highest point of that place—only the truly suitable residence is one from which everything in the territory can be viewed. This is a necessary arrangement for managing your city-state well. You should also go take a look at those of your kind in that box and learn from them; they are very intelligent—just don’t know why they look so weak.”
Xia Xinyan: “…”
Alright then.
This situation feels like the demons are starting to study the Thirty-Six Stratagems from the Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
No matter how you look at it, this is full of plot holes.
But setting aside those plot holes for now, this seems to prove that these demons indeed have a certain degree of learning ability. Who knows, before long, this woman might actually learn those strategies and tactics.
It’s all bad news.
“Do you need to live with me?” the woman suddenly asked, “But the General of the Kingdom should be stationed separately from the King when guarding the city-state. I hope you can find a suitable residence on the side.”
“We were just planning to look for one,” Ling Mo glanced at the monster fish and said, “If you have something important to tend to, you don’t have to worry about us.”
The woman nodded, “Alright, you may go.”
After saying that, she turned to the monster fish beside her: “You, are you the fast one?”
“Yes! Mama…” The monster fish instantly became excited, “I… am very fast!”
“Then take me to the city gate now.”
“Okay!” The monster fish promptly transformed into a giant fish shape, and the woman then jumped onto its back. Ling Mo noticed that at the moment she got up, a piece of flesh seemed to fall onto the monster fish’s back, then quickly grew and spread, covering the entire back of the monster fish, creating a safe spot to stand on.
Then, the monster fish instantly took off with the woman.
As Ling Mo watched them disappear from sight and was about to turn to say something, he saw the monster fish suddenly rush back, flying in the opposite direction.
Xia Xinyan frowned slightly, “What’s going on?”
“Probably went the wrong way.” Ling Mo paused for a moment and then started walking forward, “Let’s go too. We can still check out that woman’s suggested residence.”
According to the woman, the locations that provide a view of the entire city are mostly at its highest points, and since she had pointed in a direction previously, it wouldn’t be hard to find her residence based on that.
Though it might not necessarily be useful, well… knowing is better than not knowing, right?
Xia Xinyan nodded as well, and the two began walking in that direction.
On the roads in the city center, many demons were wandering about, and most of them turned and walked away when they saw them, keeping their distance. Some stronger ones didn’t leave but looked at them with a peculiar gaze, which seemed to carry some hostility.
Xia Xinyan guessed it was because of the woman’s earlier words—these demons may have submitted to her strength, but it was quite normal for them to feel dissatisfied about being told what to do by a group of unknown individuals whose strength they didn’t even recognize.
Humans aren’t that easy to please, let alone these more straightforward demons.
Fortunately, although the demons looked at them unfavorably, none of them immediately started a fight. This kind of rampant behavior in a demon stronghold was quite… thrilling.
However, Xia Xinyan still didn’t quite grasp how these demons judged each other’s strength. It probably isn’t the same as humans… but she could ask the meat can.
So as the number of surrounding demons began to diminish, Xia Xinyan spoke up, “Meat Can, how do you judge the strength of your opponents?”
Meat Can paused briefly and explained, “It’s… the smell.”
“The smell?” Xia Xinyan frowned slightly.
How grotesque is that?
“Yeah,” Meat Can nodded, “The stronger the smell, the stronger the guy… you only have one piece of meat on you, so your scent is very faint. To us, that means you seem quite weak.”
After hearing that, Ling Mo twitched his lips, “You must be referring to their aura, right?”
What kind of smell can a dead piece of meat have—at most it just has a bit of a stench, and even that’s been greatly improved by air fresheners; if those demons can smell this piece of meat, then they must all be equipped with dog noses.
But aura and smell aren’t quite the same… it’s difficult to explain; anyway, aura feels quite mystical, and he was unsure when they started to perceive such things.
Meat Can nodded, “Your explanation is likely more accurate.”
“I have another question—how did you learn to speak?” Xia Xinyan suddenly asked.
After bringing Meat Can back to the camp, he was sent home with that Monica person, and they hadn’t extracted any useful information from him—at that time they didn’t pay much attention, but it’s never too late to ask now.
Meat Can paused for a moment and replied, “I don’t know.”
It’s as if he suddenly had an epiphany, but why? He had no idea.
“Can you read?” Xia Xinyan continued to ask.
“I can,” Meat Can nodded.
Ling Mo was surprised, “You can read too?”
Then Meat Can pulled out a Bible from who knows where: “To gain the Lord’s guidance, I must learn to read.”
Ling Mo: “…”
This guy… has an incredible learning ability.
