Chapter 433 – Darkmtl

Chapter 433

Chapter 433 Experiment Site within an Experiment Site

Some things really shouldn’t be overthought.

Just like how humans on Earth, who haven’t even left the planet, trying to uncover the truth of the world serves no purpose other than adding to their worries.

So, Xia Xinyan turned her attention to the present.

As Monica said, this demon race will eventually evolve into a new order species, so what needs to be handled right now is the territorial dispute between humans and demons… which is quite a headache.

It would have been easier if these demons were still the mindless monsters who couldn’t talk, but now that they have evolved intelligence and can even communicate with humans, treating them as mere enemies is no longer feasible.

Perhaps this action is an opportunity; if there’s a way to minimize the ultimate losses, it might be worth a try—even if it means humans and demons coexisting.

After all, at this point, completely driving demons out or annihilating them would come at a great cost, and both sides would gain little.

But… they certainly can’t make decisions on behalf of all humanity.

“Let’s go take a look outside.” After confirming there was nothing valuable in this shelter, Xia Xinyan spoke up.

Monica led the way outside, saying, “Let’s go, it’s time to get some fresh air.”

This place truly felt oppressive.

Not because there was no sunlight, but because it was filled with despair.

That was the emotion leftover from the diary’s owner two years ago—not just about one person’s life and death but the demise of an entire race and the world, so this feeling could infect everything around it, even lifeless objects—perhaps it couldn’t even be considered an emotion anymore.

Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan couldn’t feel it, but she could.

Don’t let her usual carefree demeanor fool you; when faced with such things, it still made her feel quite upset—after all, she was somewhat of a police officer, and this place was akin to a murder scene.

Even if the case were solved, those victims would never return.

Once they returned to the ground and left the residential community, standing on the street, Ling Mo looked around and asked, “Where to now?”

That woman didn’t tell them where to find it when she left.

“Let’s look for canned meat first,” Xia Xinyan said, “Since that woman said it would make the other demons listen to us, that means we have a chance.”

If they didn’t take advantage of this authority to do something, wouldn’t that be such a waste?

“Alright.” Ling Mo took out his locator and glanced at it, “It’s not far from us.”

Before they came, to prevent any surprises or that guy having any escape intentions, Ling Mo had installed a locator on it beforehand—right on that bomb collar, which was coming in handy now.

Just as they were about to set off, Monica suddenly said, “You two go ahead; I’ll wander around here by myself.”

“Huh? Why?” Xia Xinyan instinctively asked.

After all, she was their greatest assurance of safety.

“I need some fresh air.” Monica shook her head, “I’m feeling a bit down, and I don’t want to be a third wheel all the time—don’t worry, I’ve left a little something on you two; I’ll be the first to show up if you’re in danger, just like a savior, so there’s no need to worry.”

Upon hearing this, Ling Mo immediately checked himself all over, as if checking for something.

Monica: “…”

She couldn’t help but retort, “That thing is on the surface of your soul, so don’t fuss about it—it won’t monitor you, it’s just an emergency alert device. Do I look like the kind of person who enjoys peeping at others’ romantic moments?”

“Yes.” Ling Mo nodded.

Monica turned and walked away.

Damn, being rebutted by this dog man dissolved a lot of her previous annoyance.

Unfortunately, what replaced it was dissatisfaction.

Good intentions treated as ingratitude—if her task wasn’t to protect these two, she might still care for Xia Xinyan, but that guy Ling Mo can go die for all she cared.

After she left, Ling Mo muttered inexplicably, “I thought she was the kind of person who never has a care in the world.”

Everyone could feel the shift in that woman’s emotions inside the shelter, which left him a bit out of sorts.

Xia Xinyan sighed, “Her perspective on things is different from ours.”

“Then what does Xinyan think?” As they approached the canned meat, Ling Mo asked, “For example, how should the relationship between humans and those demons be handled in the end?”

“I don’t know,” Xia Xinyan shook her head, “Such a large matter can’t be decided by just one or two people. I’m just thinking… whether to tell others about these things now.”

They hadn’t told anyone before because it wasn’t necessary; since a fight with demons was inevitable, there was no need to add to the panic. But things were different now; those demons had gained intelligence, and they couldn’t handle matters the old way anymore. If it involved a major event that could impact all of humanity, others certainly had the right to know the truth.

Ling Mo just smiled, “No matter what you decide, I’ll stand by you.”

Xia Xinyan tilted her head and looked at him, feeling a bit dissatisfied, “Can’t you give some opinions?”

While his words warmed her heart, always putting herself in the decision-maker’s position also put a lot of pressure on her.

“Give my opinion?” Ling Mo pondered for a moment and said seriously, “I think, even if we want to consider coexisting with demons, we at least need to first determine whether this race can coexist with us— I don’t believe they would accept the social rules of human society where even a little fight could land you in detention.”

That’s a fundamental issue; it involves a collision of two races’ rules. More importantly, if those demons have no desire to coexist and still harbor an exclusionary mindset, wanting to coexist would be quite difficult.

—After all, that woman executed that demon just for being challenged by others; if that happened in human society, it would be considered as an act of a terrorist against humanity.

Xia Xinyan thought for two seconds and nodded, “True.”

She almost fell into a misunderstanding, just raising herself to a high perspective and ignoring the fundamental problem.

“So this is an opportunity,” Ling Mo grinned, “Since that woman has given us such high authority, we can definitely stay here for a while longer—since this is one of the demon strongholds, it should represent the performance of most demons, so we can treat this place as a testing ground to explore the possibility of coexistence.”

Experiment Site within an Experiment Site; not bad at all.
