Chapter 36
Chapter 036 The Blood is Pumping!
They weren’t as unlucky as the protagonists in that movie; thanks to the garbage truck clearing the way, they smoothly managed to navigate out of the congested area.
In just a few minutes, the whole city seemed to spiral into chaos, with most pedestrians fleeing the streets, and vehicles starting to crash wildly, pushing Ling Mo’s blood pressure to the limit.
For a newbie driver like him, this was way too intense.
Xia Xinyan didn’t pay much attention to how Ling Mo drove; she seemed confident in his skills. Instead, she was observing the situation of the pedestrians outside—particularly the attackers.
Those guys looked no different from regular humans; if anything, she only noticed their skin was redder than normal… like a middle-aged office worker who had downed a few boxes of beer.
However, although their behavior was dangerous, it paled in comparison to zombies. So far, their only attack method was a reckless charge with a rocket hammer, and after knocking someone over, they wouldn’t continue to beat them down but would instead look for their next prey.
Most of the attacked pedestrians were caught off guard. While this attack method might seem inefficient, it became a different story when over half the people on the street turned into attackers. You can fend off one, but not all; there’s always going to be one hiding at an angle ready to strike.
But… still, this level of attack was a bit too easy for players.
These guys didn’t even have ranged attacks; if she could just get her hands on a firearm, Xia Xinyan was confident she could keep any attacker at least three meters away.
Moreover, the military had been dispatched to suppress the riots, making these NPCs effectively allies to the players, which also somewhat lowered the difficulty of the dungeon.
That’s why she didn’t expect this dungeon to be so simple.
In any case, grabbing some self-defense weapons definitely wouldn’t hurt, and the sooner the better.
The traffic flow towards the police station was decent, and the two of them safely arrived at the police station’s entrance. Miraculously, just as they parked, a dozen armored vehicles rolled out of the station, speeding towards the downtown area, leaving the police station empty.
Ling Mo parked by the roadside and scanned the area from the car.
The police station was located on the edge of the bustling district, with not too many vehicles or pedestrians. Although things were a bit chaotic, it was still way better than that traffic jam they had just come from.
Plus, there was a gun-wielding officer guarding the entrance, which provided some assurance for the area’s safety.
Ling Mo touched a brick and got out of the car: “I’ll go check it out; you wait here.”
Seeing this, Xia Xinyan opened her mouth to say something but paused, ultimately choosing to remain silent.
Fine, let him show off a bit.
Ling Mo got out, closed the door, and cautiously scanned the area again to ensure no suspicious characters were watching before he put away the brick and ran toward the officer.
He was afraid approaching with the brick would get him knocked down before he could take a few steps.
The officer quickly noticed his figure and immediately raised his gun, aiming at him: “Stop! Who are you?!”
“Wait! Don’t shoot! I’m one of the good guys!” Ling Mo hurriedly raised both hands to show he meant no harm. “I’m here to report something!”
“Report something?” The police officer frowned and said sternly, “Can’t you see what’s happening in the city? There’s no police force available to handle your issues! Get out of here, or I’ll have to arrest you!”
“It’s not like that…” Ling Mo’s brain started spinning wildly. “I want to leave too, but we have nowhere to go! Our home was occupied, there were too many of them for us to handle! They say to seek help from the police in difficult times; even if you can’t respond, can’t we stay here for a bit? Look how dangerous it is out there, I’m scared!”
The officer locked eyes with him for a few seconds.
Then he lowered his gun: “Fine, you can come inside for a bit. A big guy like you is still so scared… tsk.”
Ling Mo: “……”
Seriously? Even NPCs can throw shade now?
“… Thank you very much.” Taking a deep breath, he turned to call Xia Xinyan over. “My girlfriend is still in the car; I’ll go get her.”
But he hadn’t taken two steps when suddenly a red-faced, neck-bulging middle-aged man came charging at him like a mad bull, shouting incoherently: “dododododo——!!”
The officer immediately raised his gun: “Halt! Stop right there! I’m telling you to stop!”
Unfortunately, the middle-aged man completely ignored the warning and charged straight at him at sprinting speed without slowing down. The officer, probably panicking, fired a shot at the last second but missed. The next moment, he was knocked to the ground, rolling a few meters with the man.
The officer was taken down in a single hit, but the man wasn’t done; he quickly got back up and set his sights on Ling Mo, charging at him while shouting: “dododododo——!”
Ling Mo was taken aback, swiftly pulling out the brick, timing it just right to sidestep the man’s rushing path and swung at his head: “Screw you, die!”
The brick landed solidly on the man’s head with a dull thud, sending a shock through Ling Mo’s hand. But it successfully knocked the guy to the ground. Ling Mo gritted his teeth and, without hesitation, raised the brick again to deliver a final blow to his head.
The man’s skull shattered like glass, and his body turned into a burst of white light before vanishing.
“Ah… that was impressive,” Xia Xinyan’s voice suddenly came from nearby. Turning around, he saw she had no idea when she had come from the car and was picking up the fallen gun from the officer. “I was going to help you.”
“Heh… this little thing didn’t require help…” Although he said this, Ling Mo’s body was still trembling slightly. “Let’s not linger here; let’s go inside and get some weapons.”
Even though he knew it was a game, swinging that brick at someone felt too real, to the point where he felt like he was genuinely killing someone.
Nonetheless, deep down, knowing this was a game, he didn’t feel much fear; it was more like the excitement and thrill he had after a schoolyard brawl.
It was the kind of rush that allowed him to immerse himself completely in the moment and ignore most unrelated information around him.
In simpler terms, he was in the zone after swinging that brick.
Even Xia Xinyan’s praise didn’t catch his full attention.
She noticed it too.
So, for once, Xia Xinyan got serious and tossed the gun to Ling Mo: “You can use this gun. I’ll see if there are any other weapons inside.”
Ling Mo checked the firearm and boldly headed towards the police station, speaking in a steady tone: “Okay, I’ll lead; just stay behind me, and I’ll protect you.”
Xia Xinyan paused, smiled, and nodded: “Then I’ll count on you.”
Oh boy, the blood is really pumping now…
