Chapter 31

Meeting Sabrina felt almost like a sheer coincidence.

I had searched the party venue for her but to no avail, and in a half-hearted state of despair, I ended up in the underground parking lot where David’s plan was set to unfold.

But who would have thought I would have to persuade David all by myself, without any help?

It appeared that this world had no intersections between Sabrina and Raven at all.

‘Hmm… Well, looking at it another way, it could be considered fortunate. If Sabrina hadn’t been around at all, I would have been completely lost.’

Still, it wasn’t such a terrible situation.

The worst-case scenario would be if Sabrina had been hurt or kidnapped and wasn’t at the hotel.

At this point, she was the only one privy to the true purpose of the recent terror incident and the Nemesis’s conspiracy through David’s documents.

If only I could get Sabrina and Raven together, something would surely come of it.

‘Alright. Now’s the time. Let’s go down.’

David, unaffected by his sister’s pleas, stepped into the elevator, while Sabrina, who had just arrived late, collapsed in a heap of tears in front of the coldly closing elevator doors.

Hanging upside down from the ceiling with telekinesis, I quietly released my grip and landed softly on the floor.

“Sniff, sob… O-oppa…. Hu, hu… What, what’s going on!”

“…”

Was she startled by the sudden appearance of someone dropping down in front of her?

Sabrina, who had been crying like the world was ending, abruptly stopped, crawling backward in a hurry.

Nothing silences a child quite like an unexpected shock.

Having inadvertently executed a shock therapy, I puffed up my chest and proudly stared at Sabrina.

And perhaps realizing my presence too late.

She hastily wiped her tears with her arm and stood up with a face full of suspicion.

“What… what’s this? A security guard? No, you’re just a little kid…”

“…”

“W-wait! You were eavesdropping on our conversation, weren’t you?! Are you planning to tell on us?!”

Tch.

Just a moment ago, she had been crying her eyes out, and now Sabrina was clenching her jaw and assuming an aggressive pose as if ready to pounce.

Wow, that must be the martial art technique from the original work.

She had a similar physique to mine, yet her body felt massive like that of a giant bear. Incredible.

‘No, this isn’t the time to be casually impressed. I need to clear up this misunderstanding. I should convey that I want to help, and naturally, allow Raven’s assistance to facilitate the situation…’

Lost in thought, I suddenly felt an unsettling vibe.

…How am I supposed to convey all these thoughts to Sabrina?

“Answer me! If you don’t, I won’t hold back just because you’re a kid! I’ll smash your face with this mask!”

“…!”

This is bad.

I had completely forgotten that I couldn’t talk!

At this rate, I was likely to get beaten up without being able to explain myself.

I shook my head vigorously at the menacing Sabrina to express my lack of hostile intent.

Then, I made the sign of the scissors on my neck to signify that I couldn’t talk, and raised my hands to show surrender.

“Can’t speak? You expect me to believe that right now…!”

“….”

Hmm, she definitely wouldn’t take me at my word right away.

I mean, she’s from a world where trusting strangers is risky.

It’s understandable to be suspicious of someone she just met.

But this was troublesome.

To get a good result, we needed to believe and help each other, and this was a waste of opportunity and time!

‘Ah! Maybe if I do this…’

How on earth could I advance the situation?

As I continued to ponder this, a good idea suddenly crossed my mind.

To calm the overly excited Sabrina and earn her trust.

Yes, if a thought crossed my mind, then it was time to act immediately.

I carefully spread my hands open and curled my fingers back as if gathering them above my head.

Then, I mimicked bouncing on the floor and wiggled my fingers.

…Huh? What am I doing right now?

I’m mimicking the round and cute ears of a bear! Can’t you see that?

“You… that’s… Rayne’s….”

“…!”

Yes! That’s right!

I eagerly nodded my head as Sabrina’s expression shifted from strong suspicion to surprise and relief.

This action was none other than the bear imitation created by the kidnapped princess, Rayne.

Sabrina was not much different from a human, except for her round ears covered in fur like a bear.

To comfort her, who felt out of place in the beastfolk society, it was a dance made by Rayne.

In other words, it was a precious memory connected to Rayne, who was like her older sister.

It was a signal that could serve as our secret code!

…Ugh, it felt a bit embarrassing to dance like a child.

But seeing the tension lift, I had to push aside any embarrassment from my mind.

“Wait, did Rayne send you?!”

“….”

“Uh… never mind. If you know that, then at least you’re not an enemy.”

She relaxed her tension-filled shoulders.

Apparently, she had come to trust that I didn’t have bad intentions.

Just in case, I had to try it out. The bear dance really worked.

Now feeling relieved, I started thinking about the next step when Sabrina suddenly spoke with an expression of deep embarrassment.

“Right. I couldn’t stop you. You came here to blame me, right?”

“…!”

“Forget it. If Rayne knew her foolish brother was fighting Nemesis alone, she would’ve definitely tried to stop him. He can’t win. It’s like hitting a rock with an egg.”

She fixed her gaze at the elevator with a glum look, despite my attempts to shake my head in denial.

Then Sabrina quietly stared off somewhere beyond the elevator with a face full of helplessness, and suddenly seemed to recognize something, chuckling softly as she turned back to me.

“Even I, who couldn’t go to school, knew that, so there’s no way you wouldn’t know, right?”

“….”

“Foolish brother, you knew everything yet went off alone. It wasn’t because you could, but because you had to.”

Huh.

The way she said that in the current mood…

Wait a minute, is she not thinking of something bad right now?

“I need to go help my brother. I don’t think I can be much help, but I can lend a hand, at least.”

“…?!”

“If I meet Rayne again, tell her that it wasn’t her fault; it was just two foolish siblings making a mess of things.”

No, no, no!

Why did she come to that conclusion?

She doesn’t want her brother to die, so I need to find someone who can help through me, right?

Why did she suddenly decide that she needs to directly assist David?!

‘Could it be that she mistook it for me thinking Rayne had been kidnapped and was still trying hard? Ah… this is maddening!’

But looking at Sabrina’s face, which had just cleared up from the clouds of worry, I really couldn’t see a way to dissuade her now.

Could it be that the Sabrina who sent David off just a moment ago felt this way?

I wanted to cry at the refreshing collapse of the original flow.

Ding.

Had someone pressed the button? The elevator came to a stop.

And without any hesitation, Sabrina stepped into the open elevator.

If I let her go alone, it would lead to disaster.

Realizing this, I rushed after her and jumped into the elevator.

“What’s this? You shouldn’t be following. Someone needs to be here to relay news to Rayne.”

“….”

“Do as you please. I told you, from this point forward, it’s your fault for following.”

Who is really worrying about whom here?

Sabrina’s face, which seemed to show a hint of joy for following me, turned away with a huff.

I wanted to grab her by the neck and drag her to Raven right away.

But doing so would mean openly using telekinesis, which was the problem.

Though she looks like a cute girl, as a bear beastfolk, her strength was akin to that of an average adult male.

In that case, all my previous efforts to hide my telekinesis would be thrown out the window.

It would be a disaster if I became the world’s only superpowered individual, attracting tons of attention and unwanted interest.

Of course, no one could predict what would happen after that.

Things could turn in an unexpected way and end positively.

But one thing was certain.

If that happened, my peaceful life as a mere part-timer at the solution agency would come to an end.

‘What to do? What should I do? There must be a way to resolve this troublesome situation….’

Inside the cramped elevator shooting up from the underground parking to the surface.

My head was spinning with thoughts piling on thoughts.

And the moment the elevator stopped at the floor Sabrina pressed.

A new idea struck my stress-softened brain.

‘Is there really any need to stop Sabrina? Rather, I could help her succeed in the terror plot and directly connect David with Raven, right?’

That was plain foolishness.

Forget about the flow of the original story. Just erase the middle process and leave only the outcome.

You know, thinking about it, being fixated on the original story was ridiculous too.

Is that why the person singing the original song went directly to beat Drakel and steal the Tesseract?

It wasn’t like it was some emergency fund you only pull out when convenient.

In the first place, meticulously planning was never suited to someone like me who was impulsive.

‘The two obstacles preventing David are the combat robots he can’t penetrate with his firepower and Lexi, who has exceptional strength. As long as those two obstacles are eliminated, David’s plan can succeed.’

Let’s throw away the fixed notion that I have to stick to the original story.

Can I remove these two obstacles right in front of David?

‘While I may not be able to eliminate them… pushing them out of the game is definitely possible.’
