Chapter 100
Chapter 100 Being Carried Away
The storm after the calm has finally arrived.
All the robots outside began firing simultaneously, not even caring that their own people were in front of them. In just a brief moment, they caused a large number of casualties—specifically to their teammates. To be fair, these guys sure had a crazy amount of firepower.
And yes, there really were a lot of robots. Once the first batch emerged, the majority of the corridors began filling up with their presence, turning the entire Underground Research Base into a full coverage fire net, trapping Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan in the warehouse with no way to stick their heads out.
Although they had shield bracelets, under such intense fire coverage, it wouldn’t last long. The good news was that these robots were also using energy bullets, which meant that the shields could still defend against the bullet onslaught… But Ling Mo wasn’t sure if he could endure the impact created by such a dense fire net.
His arm might just get shattered.
“What should we do? Should we charge out?” After thinking it over, he turned to Xia Xinyan.
The warehouse had only one large door, and right outside it was a storm of bullets. They were basically trapped here. While the chaos caused by the robots allowed them to hold out for a bit longer, it was only a matter of time before they got cornered, and they didn’t have much time to make a choice.
If Xia Xinyan decided to rush out, Ling Mo would definitely take the lead.
He had said he would protect her, and he would definitely do it.
But Xia Xinyan wouldn’t be that reckless.
She quickly looked around, then pointed up: “There’s a ventilation duct! We can escape through there.”
In reality, ventilation ducts are usually too small for adults, but in games and movies, those spacious ducts are quite common. Clearly, this Underground Research Base provided a route for players to escape.
Though they had no idea where it led, it couldn’t be worse than their current situation.
The duct entrance was above some containers, and with a little effort, they could easily climb inside. Xia Xinyan used her tail to cut open the grille cover above, then eagerly crawled in. Ling Mo followed closely behind, managing to escape into the duct just before the robots could get in.
Then… he found himself unable to look away.
Although the ventilation duct was spacious, it wasn’t wide enough for them to walk or crouch gracefully, so the two were essentially crawling along, almost like they were lying flat.
Xia Xinyan was fine; as the one in front, she was more focused on finding a secure exit along the vent.
As for Ling Mo… all he could see was her rounded…
Cough.
What a pity Xia Xinyan wasn’t wearing a skirt.
…Wait, what was he thinking?
Ling Mo, oh Ling Mo, how could you think of such things at a time like this?
Silently berating himself in his mind, he took a deep breath and looked ahead again.
And once more, he found himself unable to divert his gaze.
Forget it; she’s his girlfriend and will eventually be his wife, so what’s wrong with looking? It’s perfectly upright.
He successfully managed to convince himself.
Just then, Xia Xinyan found what looked like a relatively safe exit; at least from here, she didn’t see any signs of robots outside.
“This seems safe. I’ll go out first to check the situation.” Pushing open the barrier, Xia Xinyan nimbly flipped out of the ventilation duct.
They landed in a laboratory, filled with piles of experimental data scattered everywhere. The lab door was open, and it was very quiet outside, which suggested the robots hadn’t occupied this area yet.
Ling Mo followed suit, glancing around, then frowned: “Did those guys go after someone else?”
“Maybe.” Xia Xinyan pulled out her phone to check the communication channel. Aside from the chubby guy who shouted something earlier, no one else had posted new messages.
However, just as she was about to put her phone away, the chubby guy’s voice suddenly came through—
“Brothers! I don’t know if you’re around, but level fifteen seems safe. We haven’t seen any robots here, so if anyone hears this, hurry down!”
Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo exchanged glances and quickly rushed toward the exit.
They planned to find the chubby guy.
Whether or not level fifteen was truly safe, it was definitely not wrong to regroup with the others. With the increasing difficulty, being together would definitely make things easier.
Although the main elevator was out of order, the Underground Research Base still had stairways they could take. Earlier, Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo had wandered around on this level and were pretty familiar with the layout, including where the stairs were.
It was conveniently not far from here.
However, as soon as they ran out into a corridor, they encountered a flock of robots rushing toward them. Ling Mo was startled and immediately positioned himself in front of Xia Xinyan, summoning a shield in an instant, just as a frenzy of firepower rained down on it.
Though the shots didn’t penetrate the shield, as Ling Mo had feared, the impact nearly shattered his arm.
Gritting his teeth, he held the shield firmly against the barrage and stepped forward: “Xinyan, I—”
But before he could finish, Xia Xinyan suddenly dashed past him, almost pressed against the wall, and with incredible speed, she charged straight into the group of robots. The latter’s delayed reactions couldn’t keep up with her speed, and the sudden chaotic scene led to several friendly fire incidents. Before Xia Xinyan even had a chance to act, half of the robots were already down.
The remaining ones hardly posed a threat. While her punches and kicks wouldn’t do much against those tin cans, she had her tail! With its sharpness slicing through metal like butter, those robots turned into a pile of scrap in no time.
Ling Mo was left dumbfounded.
He knew Xia Xinyan was strong, but he never expected her to be this strong.
And that scene just now… wasn’t that some parkour level acrobatics?
Though cats could really pull off such feats… but Xia Xinyan was just a human who had acquired cat girl abilities! Essentially just a pile of data! How was she able to do that?!
Or could it be that once you got the corresponding abilities, the game provides a shortcut for skill releases?
And her tail…
It wasn’t until now that Ling Mo truly realized the sharpness of that tail.
He suddenly remembered what the chubby guy had said earlier.
…Thank goodness Xia Xinyan didn’t have this ability in real life.
Thank goodness.
“What are you standing around for?” Seeing Ling Mo frozen in place, Xia Xinyan called out, “Let’s go! We don’t have much time.”
She could handle up to ten robots, but any more than that would be too much for her. There were quite a number of patrolling robots on this level, and they couldn’t afford to waste time.
Ling Mo snapped back to reality, shouldering his shield and rushing after her: “Oh… oh.”
He felt like he was being carried away.
It was a bit strange.
