Chapter 51
Chapter 051 Don’t Shoot, We’re Allies!
She had almost moved past the earlier awkwardness.
— Surely, she couldn’t just avoid talking to Ling Mo from now on, right?
As long as she didn’t bring up what just happened, it would be Ling Mo who was left feeling embarrassed.
Hmm, that was her thought.
At least from her perspective, Ling Mo was definitely more shy than she was; he might even look like he was putting on a brave face right now.
Thinking this way made her feel less emotional about it.
Of course, what she was really focused on now was the matter at hand. As they say, haste makes waste; it was quite impressive that Ling Mo could deduce so much from a single shell casing, but they clearly overlooked some more crucial information.
Like a working elevator.
On the side of the hall on the first floor, there were three elevators. Two were stuck on the first floor, while the middle elevator had already reached the 19th floor and was still moving up.
At this time, it was unlikely that an NPC was using the elevator, and the chances of an infected using it were almost zero, so it was reasonable to guess that it was probably other players inside.
Ling Mo was also surprised by this discovery, pausing for a few seconds before asking, “Should we take the elevator?”
“Let’s give it a try,” Xia Xinyan nodded. “Let’s see which floor they go to, and we’ll follow.”
Players generally wouldn’t have hostile stances towards each other, so they didn’t need to worry about the other being an enemy. Moreover, at such a late hour, more people meant more chances of survival—in every sense.
Also, with such a tall building, while they could make their way up by climbing the stairs, it would definitely take a toll on their stamina. If they encountered a horde of infected on the rooftop while in a fatigued state, it would clearly be too much to handle.
Taking the elevator was risky, but if someone had already scouted the way, it was worth a shot.
“Then I’ll go call those two back,” Ling Mo thought for a moment before turning to chase after the fat guy and the others.
The middle elevator ultimately stopped on the 41st floor. After Ling Mo called back the fat guy and Murong Yue, the four of them boarded another elevator and pressed the button for the 41st floor.
The ride up was quite smooth; at least they didn’t encounter the cliché of the power going out midway. By the time the elevator slowly stopped at the 41st floor, their vigilance was at its peak. They all pressed against the sides of the elevator, guns raised and aimed outside.
The elevator doors slowly opened, revealing a toppled table in the office hall ahead, and two people crouching behind it, showing only the barrel of a gun and half their heads: “Who?! Identify yourselves!”
“Don’t shoot! Allies!” The fat guy shouted immediately, stretching out a hand to signal they meant no harm.
The other side shouted back, “Players?!”
“Players!”
“Damn, you scared us to death. We thought zombies could use elevators now.”
“Then this dungeon would be impossible to play!” The fat guy awkwardly chuckled as the first to step out. “How’s your day been, brothers?”
One man suddenly paused: “Why do you keep saying ‘do’?”
The fat guy: “……”
“Because he’s infected,” Murong Yue then stepped out and glanced at the two men. “By the way, do you have any vaccines?”
The two immediately became wary: “No, the nearest vaccine drop-off point is several kilometers away. We’re not infected, so why would we risk going for it?”
“Then it’s a no-go.” Murong Yue shrugged.
One of the men stared at the fat guy, his expression a bit strange: “He’s infected? How long has he been infected?”
“I dunno, but at least his skin hasn’t turned red, right?” The fat guy stepped back a couple of steps to show he meant no harm. “Don’t worry, if I really can’t control it, I’ll end it myself, I promise I won’t let my teammates down.”
The two exchanged glances for a moment before nodding: “We’ll ignore it for now. If you really mutate, don’t blame us for taking action, okay?”
“Okay, okay, I’ll handle it myself if that happens.” The fat guy looked quite laid-back.
Once both sides reached a consensus, they introduced themselves. The two men were named Wang Wen and Cheng Yong, built like bodybuilders but their actions were amusingly mismatched with their appearances.
They mentioned that they were friends in real life and, coincidentally, were born in the same hospital. According to what they understood, the game likely set them up as a pair of fencing brothers.
This inspired Ling Mo to have a new understanding of the game.
In comparison, putting him and Xia Xinyan in the same bed didn’t seem so outrageous anymore.
As for the other two players, they hadn’t seen them. Ling Mo had briefly encountered one of them during the initial traffic jam scene, but it seemed those two were likely out of the picture now.
Out of eight players, if six managed to survive until the final task, the survival rate seemed decent.
Notably, the two had managed to grab a bag of bombs during yesterday’s chaos, found in a police station—totaling ten, all controlled by a single detonator, with the only prerequisite being to first activate the bombs and put them in a state to be detonated—this should be a simplified operation in the game.
Before Xia Xinyan and the others arrived, they planned to use the explosives to blow up the stairs leading to the upper levels, which would prevent the infected below from catching up, after all, those infected wouldn’t use the elevator.
They initially intended to climb the stairs to the top floor, but there were way too many infected in this building. They had cleaned out from the first floor to the fifth, and the speed at which they consumed ammo exceeded their estimates. With no other choice, they opted for the elevator.
Additionally, considering there were so many infected in the square below, if they all rushed in, it posed a massive threat. Hence, before taking the elevator, they began preparations—placing explosives on all the stairwells on the fifth floor, using up four bombs in total.
“From here to the rooftop, there are still over twenty floors. Are you planning to blow up the stairs here too?” After learning their intentions, Ling Mo asked.
Wang Wen nodded: “We plan to blow up the stairs below the skybridge, at least we can transfer through the skybridge.”
“The skybridge is still a few floors up; it’s fine to set up here.” Cheng Yong chimed in.
“Let’s head up first, time is running out.” Murong Yue scanned the surroundings. “Are there a lot of infected in this building?”
“Let’s just say… quite a few,” Wang Wen nodded. “This floor is mostly cleared, but I’m still worried about self-exploders. If there are too many infected, it might just blow this whole building down.”
“Shouldn’t be the case…” Cheng Yong hesitated.
No sooner had he spoken than a game notification suddenly appeared in everyone’s minds—
[Important News: A rescue helicopter is about to arrive at Guangling Building A. The noise is attracting a large number of infected to converge on Guangling Building. Prepare to face the onslaught.]
Ling Mo: “…Well, this just got interesting.”
