Chapter 35

Chapter 035 Riot City

Taking out a piece of brick in this situation really feels a bit low.

But Ling Mo had nothing else to pull out.

Currently, the only thing on his manifestation list that could serve as a weapon was this, and nothing else looked remotely useful; even this brick was the result of careful selection to ensure it had enough lethality.

At the very least, it should have decent power when swung at a head.

“Do you want one?” After pondering for a moment, he suddenly handed the brick to Xia Xinyan.

If they were surrounded by zombies, they were basically just meat cans in the car, plus zombies had that unfair infection characteristic, so a brick was definitely safer than a physical fight.

—At least that’s how he saw it.

However, looking at the brick being handed over, Xia Xinyan felt quite complicated.

She couldn’t shake the feeling that this action was a bit off, but she couldn’t pinpoint why.

Anyway, she wanted to throw in a sarcastic remark about being a dummy.

Seeing her not accept it, Ling Mo silently took the brick back.

He hadn’t thought much of it; he simply assumed that Xia Xinyan didn’t know how to use a brick—after all, she was a girl, and it’s normal not to have that kind of talent.

Besides, having a girl swing a brick around felt a bit odd.

Fortunately, the situation outside didn’t spiral out of control immediately. The guy who crashed into the police was soon pulled away and arrested by a few officers rushing in to help, and the injured cop was quickly loaded onto an ambulance. Once everything calmed down, the traffic on this road was still as jammed as ever.

Ling Mo paused: “That’s it?”

That guy didn’t seem like a zombie?

Xia Xinyan scanned her surroundings and whispered, “Don’t let your guard down.”

The road was still jammed tight, and without the game providing a next step prompt, this place was definitely not safe.

Perhaps that guy was just the beginning.

—And she was really right about that.

The commotion caused by that police officer got quite a few drivers to get out of their cars to check the situation. Among them, Xia Xinyan spotted a familiar figure, one of the players she had seen in the preparation hall.

Then, in the next second, that player was sent flying by a heavy-set guy who suddenly charged out from behind a car.

It looked painful.

This seemed to act as a signal, as the next moment, many howling people suddenly appeared, crashing into the unsuspecting bystanders—literally crashing, each attacker darting towards their victim at high speed and delivering a rocket headbutt straight to their abdomen, like human cannonballs.

For those with weak physiques, this might just mean instant death.

The scene instantly became chaotic; even with the car windows closed, both Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan could hear the screams and howls filtering in from outside. Many drivers, noticing the abnormality, tried to flee back into their cars, but even before they could turn around, they were sent flying by other attackers’ headbutts. One unlucky man even got slammed right onto the hood of their car, leaving a dent in the shape of a person.

Startled, Ling Mo jolted and gripped the brick tightly: “What on earth is happening?!”

A zombie crisis?!

It didn’t seem like it at all, as this group of attackers looked nothing like zombies and weren’t biting anyone.

Could it be a headbutt virus?

But before he could figure this out, a garbage truck came barreling in from behind, crashing into a row of parked vehicles and brutally clearing a path ahead.

Much like a scene from a movie, Ling Mo instinctively reacted like a movie protagonist—he slammed on the gas and followed the garbage truck, escaping from the traffic jam it had forced open.

Immediately, a new game prompt appeared before them—

【Current Task: Survive until the next day】

【News: The city is in chaos, and the mayor urges everyone to stay indoors and protect themselves while waiting for the riots to be suppressed. Citizens who are attacked may reasonably use available weapons for self-defense.】

Ling Mo couldn’t help but panic: “What do we do next?”

He didn’t have much experience dealing with situations like this.

Though he played a lot of games, very few put players in a scenario like this—giving a massive world and an extremely vague task prompt to complete. It wasn’t even that he hadn’t played such a game before; if there was one, it would probably get shut down due to complaints.

In all honesty, the guidance in this game was really lacking.

Xia Xinyan contemplated for a few seconds and directly checked the location of the police station on the navigation: “Let’s go to the police station and see if we can find some firearms.”

The few guns they had brought back from the last dungeon were nearly out of ammo, and since they weren’t sure if the firearms would work in this dungeon, they hadn’t brought any into this one.

If there was a game warehouse, it wouldn’t have made much of a difference to their weight capacity, but the game warehouse unlocks only after clearing the second Battle Zone dungeon, so before that, they still had to travel light as much as possible.

So, given the situation, going to the police station to fish for some firearms was the better choice—having a ranged means of defense would always provide a bit more peace of mind.

Especially since both of them weren’t particularly strong right now.

However, hearing her suggestion, Ling Mo hesitated for a moment: “The police station? If we go to the police station to grab firearms, won’t those cops treat us as rioters and take us down, too?”

Pausing, he proposed: “Why don’t we just head home? Just surviving until the next day should be easy if we secure the front door of the house, right?”

Before heading out, he had specifically checked out the apartment they had for the dungeon. It was pretty high up with a nice view from the balcony, and the fridge was stocked with enough food to last them two days, so staying inside for that time wouldn’t pose much of an issue—it was definitely safer than venturing outside.

Upon hearing this, Xia Xinyan tilted her head and smiled slightly: “Are you wanting to enjoy a two-person world for two days?”

Ling Mo: “!”

He was taken aback.

—He really hadn’t thought of that.

But with her mentioning it, he couldn’t help but start imagining… A world filled with chaos, having to hide out at home with her to survive, an unruly city, just the two of them…

He couldn’t think any further; that path was heading straight for R18 content.

Xia Xinyan added a mischievous grin: “Enjoying a two-person world with you sounds pretty nice, but…”

Saying this, she slightly turned serious: “What if the task requires us to go out afterward? What’s your plan?”

Ling Mo froze.

He hadn’t considered that aspect.

“So it’s better to have some means of self-defense, right?” Xia Xinyan chuckled, gently guiding him to acclimate to this game, “At all times, you should first consider keeping a getaway plan before making decisions. For now, let’s find some self-defense weapons, and afterward, we can hide at home for a couple of days if needed.”

Ling Mo nodded thoughtfully.

He realized that Xia Xinyan’s mind was indeed much more meticulous than his.

He had intended to take her to fly, but now it felt like he was the one being led by her.

It seemed he really had to make an effort.

Whether it’s about finding his worth or creating his own value.

If this game was something she was interested in, then he would start from this game.

From now on.
