Chapter 211

Chapter 211 High Energy Ahead

Upon seeing Monica, both Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo were taken aback.

Then, Xia Xinyan narrowed her eyes, “Has the problem been resolved?”

“Not yet, I’ve just identified the problem,” Monica’s large communicator suddenly vanished, likely hidden in some spatial storage device she had. “You should also be aware of the abnormalities in this city now, right? Have you figured out why the city is acting up?”

Xia Xinyan remained silent.

Noticing this, Ling Mo nodded with a slight smile, “Please, go on.”

“Hmm,” Monica seemed to enjoy being respected and making others wait for her to elaborate, “It’s quite simple. The entire city is a puppet show, and every citizen here is a marionette controlled by someone.”

Pausing, her gaze drifted between the two, and she smiled, “As for you two… well, you’re just a bunch of lab rats under study. This city is a research base—this is something I only recently figured out, and it’s rather interesting.”

“Researching us?” Xia Xinyan raised an eyebrow.

“To be more precise, it’s studying your kind of special individuals—if my guess is correct, the entity that sent you here is unable to actively leave this world, so they keep sending batches of people to try to sever the ties… well, as a result, the forces in this world have created a research platform specifically to study you unwelcome guests.”

“You mean, there were others like us before us?” Xia Xinyan pondered.

If that’s the case, then the game dungeons aren’t unique after all? She had thought that every dungeon only appeared once, considering she’d never encountered a repeated one before.

Monica shot her a glance, “You’re trying to pry for information again.”

“Isn’t this information you just provided?” Xia Xinyan countered without backing down.

Monica pouted, not wanting to dwell on that point any longer: “Alright, no more digging for info from me. How about we just get along peacefully?”

Xia Xinyan remained noncommittal, “So what do you plan to do now?”

“My goal is the same as yours; this world has its claws in places it shouldn’t. I’m here to chop off that claw,” Monica teased a bit, “Do you know where the real control of this city lies?”

“Where?” Xia Xinyan had no intention of wasting time.

Monica stared at her for a moment, sighed in apparent boredom, and didn’t keep them in suspense any longer, pointing upward: “In the sky.”

After a pause, she slightly tilted her head toward the equipment warehouse inside: “Aren’t you going to take this chance to grab some more goods? Once they catch on, your leisurely time will be over.”

Xia Xinyan thought for a moment and nodded, leading Ling Mo into the equipment warehouse.

She was fairly certain that most of the abnormalities and flaws in this city could be attributed to this girl. Otherwise, they might have all been tricked into a departing capsule completely oblivious, and it could be said they’d die without ever knowing why.

Furthermore, in the end, this girl had given them a major hint—she had revealed where the true control of this city was located.

If Xia Xinyan was correct, that should indeed be the true Control Hub.

However, according to the phrase that had just popped into her mind, the existence behind it likely wouldn’t let them play around for long, so it was crucial to take advantage of this last period of safety and reap some benefits.

The group that had entered first had almost cleaned out the pile of high-tech weapons on the racks, while the other mechas and robots hadn’t been moved much—mainly because they couldn’t carry such large items. The spatial watches could barely hold a single mecha, but in pure value, it might not be worth much compared to a few pieces of high-tech gear. A fool would know how to choose.

When Ling Mo and Xia Xinyan arrived, Summer Jincang immediately came to Xia Xinyan’s side: “Why are you so late? I specifically saved a lot of good stuff for you, hurry up and grab it!”

The chubby guy also squeezed his way over to Ling Mo, excitedly rubbing his hands: “This time, we really hit the jackpot. I feel like even if I died and went back now, it would be worth it.”

Ling Mo was currently examining the structure of a mecha, and without looking at him, said, “Does dying and returning mean you can’t take the loot?”

“Not anymore! As long as it’s stored in the spatial watch, you can take it back even if you die halfway, didn’t you know?”

“Didn’t know, never died before.”

“…”

The chubby guy thought this guy was showing off without intending to.

But right now, Ling Mo didn’t care much about the details that had little to do with him. With each covert update, he was more concerned about the changes in dungeon mechanics; he hadn’t really paid much attention to dying because he had barely died at all.

Clearing his throat, the chubby guy continued, “So you plan to take a mecha back with you?”

Almost as soon as he finished speaking, Ling Mo stored the mecha in his spatial watch: “Yep, everything on the walls has been cleaned out by you, what else am I supposed to take?”

“I think one mecha isn’t worth it—you might as well grab some battle robots. I just saw that these things can fight automatically and follow your commands. At least on the surface, they look way cooler than mechas, and there’s bound to be someone willing to buy them for a lot.”

“Too late for that.” Ling Mo shrugged.

He really didn’t care how much he could sell it for; more than game points, he was now more focused on his own worth. Xia Xinyan had previously guided him on how to train his ability to materialize objects—just look more, think more. Even if he couldn’t physically touch the original and create an identical item, it greatly aided his materialization capability and served as a foundational improvement for the future.

As for why Xia Xinyan understood his abilities so well… he believed it was merely because she had paid attention to him in his past life, nothing more.

After all, he trusted Xinyan.

Just as they had all finished scavenging, a massive thud echoed from below, causing the entire spire to start shaking. At the same time, the ceiling above the equipment warehouse slowly opened, revealing the external sky.

Everyone looked up almost simultaneously, and saw the previously empty sky become blurred, gradually revealing the silhouette of a gigantic object. Finally, the massive object fully emerged, casting a shadow over the entire tower, and everyone finally realized what it was—

A giant sky mother ship.

Then, all the aircraft and mechas in the weapons depot were forcefully activated and emitted sharp alarm sounds—

“Warning! Warning! Super high-energy weapon system locked! Super high-energy weapon system locked! Destructive strike imminent! Please take cover!”

The chubby guy looked at the sky, the first one to break the eerie silence among them: “…Whoa, now this is exciting.”
