Chapter 106

Chapter 106 Stick It Hard

There were far more enemies on the upper three floors than they had imagined.

Once the robots transformed back into humans, the fat guy’s lightning couldn’t take out entire groups anymore. Raising his lethality forced his energy consumption to skyrocket, leaving him feeling drained.

Naturally, the next three floors turned into a showcase of everyone’s unique skills.

Xia Xinyan seemed to completely transform into a wild beast; with so many enemies around, not a single one managed to lock onto her, let alone take aim and fire. Almost every encounter turned those people into her lost souls. This time, it was her moment to shine, easing a lot of pressure off the others.

Morning Light switched from a handgun to a katana, killing invisibly like a ghost. If Xia Xinyan was untraceable, then Morning Light was downright impossible to spot.

Especially under the pitch-black lighting of the underground third floor, which was dark as hell, it acted as perfect natural cover.

But aside from the two of them, the others didn’t look nearly as cool.

Feifei naturally employed her worms. Though her abilities sounded a bit terrifying and made one think of scenes from certain novels with centipedes crawling everywhere, her powers actually looked quite pretty, consisting mostly of various butterflies and some charming little trinkets. After all, she was a girl and would definitely choose a prettier form for her worms.

Thus, she floated through, surrounded by butterflies, definitely exuding an ethereal fairy vibe.

If it weren’t for the nonstop maniacal laughter of the enemies in the background, the scene might have had even more fairy-tale charm.

Ling Mo was more unadorned and walked ahead, carrying a shield to block stray bullets, while simultaneously using his other hand to clear out the straggling soldiers with his energy rifle. As for Bai Yu… his powers were completely useless in this situation, so he obediently followed at the back, playing the role of a lazy bystander.

With this terribly pragmatic approach, everyone finally managed to fight their way to the first floor.

Finally back on the ground, they were met with a series of explosions! They were immediately forced back to the stairway.

“Holy crap! This firepower is on a whole different level!” the fat guy gritted his teeth. “What should we do? Rush in?”

The soldiers on the lower three floors were equipped with energy rifles, and since the terrain was narrow and complex, they had an advantage in guerrilla tactics. But on the ground floor, it was mostly open space, and now the enemies had switched to heavy firepower. With their current state, they wouldn’t make it out alive even with hand rings!

Not to mention, their hand rings were basically out of energy by now.

Xia Xinyan pondered for a moment and looked at Morning Light. “Can you figure out how to bring that tank over?”

Morning Light smiled slightly. “I’ll give it a try.”

With that, he turned into a puff of black mist and vanished.

Upon seeing this, the fat guy couldn’t help but smirk. “This dude is really ghost-like… Honestly, if he wanted to take someone out, he could just teleport behind the guy, stab him, and disappear before anyone even knew what happened.”

Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo exchanged glances but didn’t comment.

The fat guy paused and added oddly, “I’m not saying he’s bad. I think he’s pretty strong. Being friends with him would probably be awesome.”

Before he could finish, a cannon blast rang from the stairway, and everyone instinctively looked over to see the tank had already stopped at the door.

Morning Light was quick on his feet, catching the enemies off guard. The tank had originally been seized by them, but he teleported into the cockpit, took out the two people inside, and proceeded to bombard the exterior, taking out a fair bit of the heavy firepower outside. However, the remaining firepower was still a threat to the tank. Realizing it wasn’t wise to stick around, the others wasted no time scrambling into the turret.

The inside of the tank turret was spacious enough, and after simplifying the controls, most of the instruments had been removed, providing enough room for six people, albeit not exactly spacious.

At the moment, Morning Light was seated in the gunner’s position, and the fat guy wasted no time jumping into the driver’s seat. He hadn’t gotten to have his fun before, so now was definitely his chance to give it a whirl; otherwise, that would be a shame.

The others didn’t try to compete with him; instead, Bai Yu directly urged, “Come on, hurry! They’re gonna blow up the tank!”

“Alright! Hold on tight!” the fat guy pressed the accelerator, and the tank shot out immediately.

Everyone rushed in without a second to spare, completely disregarding their positioning. Survival was the priority, so the how didn’t really matter. Xia Xinyan had nearly been shoved to the side, half her body pressed against Ling Mo. The original position could hold, but when the fat guy suddenly stepped on the gas, she unexpectedly slammed into Ling Mo’s arms, sitting face-to-face on him.

Ling Mo froze.

Truth be told, this really wasn’t the best time for flirtation! After everything they had just been through, they all felt a bit messy, and even Xia Xinyan’s face was smeared with some dirt.

But…

This position was undeniably hard to brush off…

Xia Xinyan didn’t think anything was off; they were already in a relationship, so intentionally distancing herself from Ling Mo would be more awkward. Plus, with how crowded it was, sitting on him felt quite a bit more comfortable.

—Until she felt something hard.

Xia Xinyan’s expression stiffened.

Having had her first experience, there was no way she wouldn’t realize what that was.

Ling Mo’s expression also visibly became less natural, “Xinyan…”

“…Mo Mo, calm down, we’re on a battlefield.” Xia Xinyan feigned calmness and whispered.

She understood it was natural for a guy to react, but understanding didn’t mean she accepted it — thankfully, it was because he used to be her that she didn’t feel any repulsion or disgust. But even so, feeling that awkwardness put her in a strange mood.

Ling Mo also knew just how awkward the situation had become. He didn’t want Xia Xinyan to have a negative impression of him, but for a virgin kid, this situation was just too stimulating.

Not just the soft feeling pressed against his chest but also the intoxicating fragrance that became more evident after sweating.

It made it hard for him to keep his mind steady.

But… not now.

Ling Mo gritted his teeth, closed his eyes, and tried to calm himself down.

However, at that moment, Xia Xinyan shifted slightly in his embrace.

She couldn’t take the sensation any longer and needed to move away a bit.

Just at that moment, as the tank escaped the Divine Dragon Building, the system provided them with a final mission to shake off their pursuers. They had quite the number of heavy firepower vehicles following them, and no matter how thick the tank’s armor was, it wouldn’t last long.

But then they discovered that all those vehicles relied on automated controls for their attacks. In a field involving intelligence, Bai Yu, who had been sidelined, finally got his chance to shine, releasing all his flying machines, which successively took control of those vehicles and turned them into traitors within.

Then everyone watched as the robust assets in front of Bai Yu visibly shrank…

Simultaneously, Bai Yu’s actions inevitably caused movement within the tank, forcing Xia Xinyan and Ling Mo closer together. Just as Xia Xinyan had managed to move away, she was pushed back into Ling Mo’s arms, even more tightly than before.

Ling Mo: “…”

Xia Xinyan, feeling the soft ice melting and turning back into an even harder golden cudgel: “…”
