Chapter 991: Dakdemion and Hermes (4k)
Snap.
Olivia snapped her fingers, and a white light illuminated the entire room. The group dispersed upon entering, each gathering information.
Dak held the [Fossil Winged Dragon] golem card and walked straight to a desk, picking up a dragon-head paperweight.
Unlike the rooms they had passed through, this one showed clear signs of daily use, indicating that someone had been living here.
Dak had the [Magical Beast: Goddess of Heartful Eyes] use the [Fossil Winged Dragon] card to absorb the ancient power within the paperweight, while he himself rummaged through the desk and drawers.
As soon as he opened a drawer, he saw a stack of papers.
Most of the content on these papers was written in modern text, though there were a few extremely difficult-to-read characters which Dak guessed were ancient divine script. He planned to have Zenny Burns identify them later.
However, the large amount of modern text was sufficient to read the articles on the papers.
But to his disappointment, the papers did not contain any historical records, conspiracies, or even diaries.
They contained merely a novel, albeit not a very original one.
The development of novels in this world was just beginning, far from the sophistication of a certain country’s online literature. However, those with high literary skills could always produce unique works.
This novel fell into that category.
Dak couldn’t help but admire the vast knowledge and understanding displayed in the content of these papers after reading a few pages.
Although the story was fictional, the author lived in this world, so the content always reflected the changes of the era.
Dak organized the stack of papers, temporarily placing them on the edge of the desk, planning to take them when he left.
Then he bent down and pulled open the lower cabinet door under the drawer—what met his eyes was a whole cabinet full of papers!
Suddenly, he turned to the other drawers and cabinets on the opposite side of the desk and pulled them all open.
What he saw were neatly stacked papers. Taking out a few and looking at them, they were all novels!
“What kind of boredom must one have to write such things in a place no one will see?”
Dak couldn’t help but recall his previous speculation about Endymion Tower. If this was a god trapped here for thousands of years… perhaps anything could happen out of sheer boredom.
Behind the desk was a small bookshelf, holding scattered books, but these books were not written in modern text; instead, they were in a divine script Dak couldn’t decipher.
Their age was extremely old, giving a sense that touching them might cause them to crumble to dust.
One of the books contained a significant amount of ancient power, which turned to ashes after being absorbed by the [Fossil Winged Dragon].
After absorbing the ancient power from the book, the [Fossil Winged Dragon]’s progress advanced from 95% to 96%, nearing completion.
“Whoever built this church and lived here must have moved some valuable items here. This room is indeed filled with divine artifacts.”
Dak returned to the desk, and Aurora, Olivia, Angrey, and several golem cards also brought things from various parts of the room.
They shared their findings and summarized the information.
However, what they ultimately found were scattered pieces of information.
These could expand their understanding of the church’s owner, but they couldn’t explain the events happening in the Heavenly Court.
So, after taking some things, Dak and the others left the “study room” and continued searching for clues.
After some time.
Dak and the others encountered the [Twin Sacred Knights] in front of a room. Both groups looked at each other before pushing open the door and entering together.
This room was part of a row of bedrooms, but it was the most spacious.
Before entering, Dak had guessed this was the church owner’s bedroom, and upon entering, he confirmed his thoughts.
The room was exquisitely decorated, with the owner’s portrait hanging on the walls—the first portrait Dak had seen since entering the church. Everyone’s gaze naturally focused on the portrait.
Dak opened the [Eye of Truth], and immediately noticed a red seal in one corner of the portrait. The seal bore the name of Hermes, written in modern text.
The person in the portrait had personally drawn, signed, and sealed it.
Clearly, this was the portrait of [Commerce, Traveler, Thief, and Livestock God] Hermes!
Dak immediately took out Hermes’ gold medal from his bag and compared the figure on the medal with the portrait.
While confirming that they were the same person, he also confirmed another thing—
The person in the portrait bore at least an 80% resemblance to the [Mysterious Person]!
From the scattered information collected earlier, Hermes should be a knowledgeable and scholarly god.
But the [Mysterious Person] was mad and malicious, like a fragment of evil born from Hermes’ consciousness.
The experiences of those [Angels] outside were completely inconsistent with what Hermes had given off until now, more like the work of the [Mysterious Person].
But appearances can be deceiving, so it wasn’t necessarily the case.
Considering the current situation, it could be seen that Hermes’ condition was not good.
He chose the [Mysterious Person] to hide among those who had gold medals, possibly wanting to use human strength to kill him.
But as a god who had lived for millions of years, his overall thinking wouldn’t be so shallow.
Based on the current known information,
his action was essentially placing a bet on the [Mysterious Person]. If humans failed, it would mean that the twelve beings represented by the [Mysterious Person] succeeded.
Regardless of which side won, the final outcome would likely align with his wishes.
The [Mysterious Person], as a fragment of his evil, was not stupid despite being fundamentally mad.
The ceremony executed by the [Angels] earlier could be considered his rebellion. He wanted to transcend and break free from the board.

[Last night I played Pokémon Scarlet & Violet and fell asleep (>.<), I am guilty.]
[Tonight I heard a distant relative passed away, although I don't know them well, I will likely attend the funeral, so my time will be tight. I'll put aside the material collection for a few days and squeeze time to ensure updates.]
