Chapter 97: Linis’s Acknowledgment

Chapter 97: Linis’s Acknowledgment

“Don’t you really know?”

Linis looked at Arthur and asked, her face filled with a radiant smile.

Arthur didn’t answer, frowning as he pondered Linis’s intentions.

In his mind, as the former ruler of the Elven Race, Linis should be at odds with Airael.

After all, Airael had taken power from her!

Although Arthur was hiding it well, Linis still sensed that faint hostility.

She turned to him and said, “It seems you have some misunderstanding about me.”

“Misunderstanding? What misunderstanding?” Arthur replied, puzzled.

“We shouldn’t be enemies, yet you’ve shown me hostility.”

As Arthur started to deny it, Linis continued, “Though you’re concealing it well, please don’t underestimate my abilities.”

With such a direct statement from Linis, Arthur decided to drop his guard and said, “Lady Linis, you were the ruler of the Elven Race before Queen Airael, correct?”

“Exactly.”

Linis nodded in acknowledgment.

“To put it bluntly, there must be some discord between a former ruler and the current one.”

“Ha ha—!”

Seeing Arthur’s serious expression, Linis chuckled lightly, “What you say isn’t wrong.”

Though Linis admitted it, her demeanor left Arthur confused.

“Is there something else that’s wrong?”

Arthur asked.

Linis nodded, responding with a smile, “Of course, the kind of situation you mentioned does exist. Many things in this world change because of power—betrayal and bloodshed—but there are exceptions, like with me and Her Majesty.”

“While you say that, it’s hard to believe you without evidence,” Arthur shook his head.

“That makes things a bit tricky,” Linis remarked, frowning in distress.

Then she looked at Arthur and posed a question to herself, “What would it take for you to believe me? Have Her Majesty personally vouch for me?”

“That would be best,” Arthur agreed. Even if it meant troubling Airael, he didn’t mind; otherwise, if betrayed, it could harm not just him but Airael as well.

After all, he was talking to the former ruler of the Elven Race, who had ruled far longer than Airael.

“It seems you care a lot about Her Majesty; no wonder she bore you Anna,” Linis smiled as she looked at Arthur.

Arthur was taken aback. She actually knew this?

He knew Airael took great measures to keep Anna’s identity a secret. Aside from Celia and Aurora, not even Airael’s maids knew Anna’s true origins.

Yet this person in front of him, who could be an enemy of Airael, was aware of this secret.

Arthur couldn’t help but ponder deeply.

Was there a traitor among Airael’s ranks, or did Linis truly mean what she said—that she was a friend, not an enemy?

After careful consideration, Arthur concluded it was likely the latter.

If it were the former, revealing such a connection with Airael while speaking with him would be akin to exposing oneself!

That would lead to uncovering her pieces placed near Airael, which would be counterproductive.

Sacrificing a valuable piece for momentary gain did not align with Linis’s character.

“Have you made up your mind?” Linis asked as Arthur returned to focus on her.

“I have, Lady Linis.”

Now believing Linis was not an enemy, Arthur felt both courteous and respectful toward her.

Since she wasn’t an enemy, it meant Linis could smoothly transition her power to Airael, proving her noble character.

Moreover, her noble character had actually aided Airael.

“It seems the misunderstanding is cleared up.”

Linis wore a smile on her face.

“Lady Linis, I apologize for my earlier behavior,” Arthur said, standing up and bowing slightly.

“Hmm! I forgive you,” Linis nodded, accepting his apology.

“Thank you very much.”

Arthur sat back down.

Then he asked Linis, “I wonder what brings you here today?”

“Actually, it’s nothing much. I just wanted to see you. Although I know of your existence, we’ve never properly communicated.”

Arthur nodded, “What did you want to discuss, Lady Linis?”

“Just a casual chat; this is a private meeting,” Linis replied.

“I understand.”

Arthur nodded again, waiting for her to bring up today’s topic.

Seeing Arthur prepared, Linis began, “From our conversation just now, I can tell you care for Her Majesty. I don’t oppose your relationship; after all, you two have already done what you needed to do, and even a child is now running around.”

Arthur’s face turned quite awkward at her words.

After all, his relationship with Airael began in a rather muddled way.

He was definitely the type who gets on board first and pays later, falling in love with time.

“No need to be so shy! I actually want to thank you. Thanks to you, the Elven Race gained a new member—another royal!”

Arthur quickly replied, “Lady Linis, can we please skip this topic?”

“Sure!” Linis laughed.

“Then let’s move on to the next topic. Do you understand what marrying Her Majesty entails?”

“I do.”

Arthur replied, nodding vigorously.

“Regarding this, I will do my utmost to protect Aira and Anna.”

Linis shook her head, “Just doing your best isn’t sufficient; you must have enough strength too.”

Arthur immediately responded, “I will work hard to become stronger.”

“Very good!”

Seeing Arthur’s resolute determination, Linis nodded in satisfaction.

Though Arthur was weak now, with effort, his potential combined with a bit of support from the Elven Race could lead him to create a remarkable future.

Arthur felt a sense of relief in his heart.

It appeared that Linis truly recognized him, not out of obligation but genuinely.

While her recognition might seem inconsequential, because she was a person of noble character who greatly aided Airael, Arthur sincerely wished to earn her approval.

So she might sincerely bless his and Airael’s future.
