Chapter 965: Hermes’ Invitation [Please Subscribe]
Dak and the others went to great lengths to decipher the hidden information in those three gifts.
Later, upon learning about this, they deduced that only one of the gods could have made Headmaster Altair say “there are ears on the other side of the wall.”
Based on this, they concluded that the god with authority over commerce, travelers, thieves, and livestock — Hermes!
And from the sheath of the sword among the three gifts, they discovered what should be Hermes’ divine blood!
Although Dak and the others still couldn’t determine the exact effects of that activated drop of Hermes’ blood, if the mastermind behind Quintina and Fred’s mysterious disappearance was indeed Hermes, then that drop of divine blood might become a key item.
Dak exchanged glances with the others and immediately acted. He carefully chose his words and walked towards Gavin North with Professor Metia, followed by several maids.
The rest of them returned to the pumpkin carriage with Professor Shylph.
Since they had determined that Hermes was behind the phenomenon of the “divine disappearance,” staying outside would be pointless.
Entering the pumpkin carriage would also better protect them against Hermes’ unknown ability to cause “divine disappearance.”
“Gavin North, Earl,” Dak said calmly as he approached, “anger won’t solve your problem.”
Gavin North felt something special from Dak and was somewhat soothed by his confident aura. He replied, “My daughter and son have disappeared, how can I stay calm?”
Dak nodded and said directly, “The reality is, no matter how angry you are, they won’t reappear like they vanished. I have some speculations about this.”
“What speculations?” Gavin North asked instinctively. Dak said, “Hermes. The god of commerce, travelers, thieves, and livestock, Hermes. I suspect that Quintina and Fred’s disappearance were both caused by Hermes.”
“Hermes, Hermes…” Hearing the name of the deity, Gavin North was stunned. He said, “Why did Hermes do this to Quintina and Fred? Has it already awakened? Even if it has awakened, what could it gain from Quintina and Fred? Are Quintina and Fred safe now?”
Dak said, “Calm down, Gavin North. I am not Hermes and cannot answer your questions.”
Gavin North took a deep breath and finally calmed down. Although he was still helpless regarding Quintina and Fred’s disappearance, having “Hermes” as a clue was better than nothing.
Moreover, one of his original purposes for venturing into the Mountain of Gods was to have his son, Fred North, inherit Hermes’ legacy.
He didn’t have Hermes’ divine blood.
In fact, he didn’t understand the concept that receiving divine power required corresponding divine blood; that was information held by the Church.
His and Earl Stanley Longfellow’s purpose in carrying divine blood was simply to open a certain door as prophesied.
Apart from the drop of Demeter’s blood obtained through an exchange with the academy, the divine blood they carried included remnants of the Fire God’s blood and another type of divine blood.
He believed that Fred North could inherit Hermes’ legacy instead of Ares’, the war god, because Fred had a natural affinity for wind.
This was a high talent that could make him a wind elemental mage!
Thus, after calming down, he couldn’t help but speculate that perhaps Hermes had taken an interest in Fred and used a method similar to “divine disappearance” to take them away.
As for why Quintina North was also taken?
Quintina was a genuine weather mage, possessing extremely high talent in wind, though her lightning talent was even stronger.
Quintina’s elemental talent was actually higher than Fred’s. Gavin North’s greatest hope for her was to inherit the legacy of Zeus, the king of gods, who controlled lightning, sky, power, and all things.
If that wasn’t possible, Hermes would be a good alternative.
…
Dak never imagined that Gavin North would still harbor such fantasies at this point.
After Bishop Sabrina Melville and the twin saints arrived, he continued, “If Hermes has already awakened, with the authority he holds, every word we speak now will likely reach his ears.”
Emily Grantham said, “Show respect and be cautious with your words.” Albert Grantham frowned and said, “Isn’t this just speculation? After all, I can’t imagine any reason why Hermes would take Gavin North’s children.”
Sabrina Melville gave him a stern look and said, “Let’s not discuss the reasons. If it really was Hermes, he has already made two people mysteriously disappear. It’s not impossible for him to make a third or fourth person disappear too.”
Professor Metia said, “This is also our main concern. Even if our guesses are correct, we have no way to deal with this ability. If we don’t find a solution soon, more people will disappear.”
Sabrina Melville nodded and said, “This is indeed an urgent matter.”
Hearing this, Gavin North suddenly said, “Then let’s enter the Heavenly Court quickly, find him, and confront him face-to-face!”
Bishop Sabrina Melville looked at him and said, “Earl Gavin North, do you know what you’re saying? That is Hermes, one of the twelve gods of Mount Pobolos. If he fully awakens, we would be mere ants under his feet.”
“But he hasn’t done that, has he?” Gavin North retorted angrily.
However, the words he said after his anger sparked an idea in Dak.
Professor Metia directly voiced his thoughts: “It seems that even if Hermes has awakened, he is likely not in full strength. Even his divine powers seem to be greatly restricted. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have waited so long to take Fred. Of course, it’s also possible that everything is just a mistaken guess, and Quintina and Fred’s disappearance has nothing to do with Hermes. But if that’s the case…”
Obviously, even from Gavin North’s perspective, it would be better if Quintina and Fred were taken by Hermes rather than disappearing due to some other reason! Disappearance equals death!
“My suggestion is…” Bishop Sabrina Melville began to speak.
But she abruptly stopped and sharply turned her head toward the empty space beside her—where Saint Knight Albert Grantham had been standing!
Just moments ago, Albert Grantham had been saying he couldn’t imagine why Hermes took Quintina and Fred, and now he had completely vanished without a trace!
Everyone’s expressions changed instantly.
Emily Grantham was particularly alarmed.
The disappearance of Quintina and Fred hadn’t affected her as much as Albert’s sudden disappearance.
With the sudden disappearance of the third person, panic finally began to spread.
