Chapter 95 Adapting to the Performance
Recently, Hope Lane had been relatively quiet. The events involving the Helis family and the Nisos family had gradually cooled down, and life seemed to have returned to normal.
If one were observant, they would notice that young Master Finleton of the Nisos family had visited the Tisiphone family several times lately. Although the two families were related by marriage, this frequency was much higher than before. The Nisos family had lost many orders recently, and their only fleet had been dispatched to distant lands, reportedly to import some rare brewing ingredients to break the deadlock and rebuild their reputation.
That night, at the ‘Floral Beach’ Cold Drink Shop.
Even though it was already dark, the yellow lights still attracted some customers. Perhaps some people enjoyed the atmosphere of a candlelit dinner.
One could see a few couples sitting opposite each other, whispering softly. Under the hazy candlelight, their faces seemed more beautiful, and they spoke sweet words, occasionally bursting into laughter.
Lolan Hill pushed open the door and walked to the bar counter. She wore a black hooded cloak, with two strands of golden hair peeking out from under the hood, her face hidden in the shadow, revealing only her pale and delicate chin.
Lanlier, sitting inside, waved her hand to signal her to come over directly.
After spending these few days together, the two had become quite familiar. Lolan Hill approached with a hint of curiosity.
“You finally came, I thought you wouldn’t show up,” Lanlier said dramatically.
“It won’t happen. Since I agreed, I’ll come. It should be right on time.”
“It’s on time, but the journey might not be so easy. If the carriage gets stuck in traffic, we’ll have to run there.”
“Alright, no more talking. Let’s set off now.” Lanlier then pulled Lolan Hill out of the shop, turned around a corner, and arrived at a small alley.
A black carriage was parked in the alley, its decoration suggesting it was quite impressive. The wheels were made of rubber, and the bottom had shock absorbers.
Then, Lanlier helped the girl onto the carriage, and the waiting driver didn’t ask any more questions, immediately setting the horses in motion.
On the carriage, Lanlier looked curiously at the opposite Lolan Hill and asked, “Lacy, did you accept the teacher’s invitation? She asked me to wait for you tonight and go to the theater together.”
“Not yet, but I want to give it a try,” Lolan Hill replied. She still had curiosity about this world and wanted to try many things, wasn’t that interesting?
“Ah, I was just imagining… I thought we could perform together in the future,” Lanlier said, pretending to be annoyed, supporting her cheeks with both hands, her mouth slightly pouting.
“Do you like performing very much?” Lolan Hill asked.
“I love it very much. Besides alchemy, the thing I enjoy most is standing on stage in bright clothes, listening to the audience’s cheers, watching them go wild for me, watching them fall for me, watching them scream and cheer for me.”
Lanlier pointed at her forehead with her index finger, closing her right eye and looking at Lacy with her left eye. Then, she moved her finger with her wrist, drawing a 90-degree arc in the air, a tiny golden star flying out from her fingertip, blooming in the air and then dissipating.
“Ta-da~ Superstar Lanlier makes her grand entrance.”
Seeing this playful scene, Lacy couldn’t help but smile.
They chatted for a while longer. Lacy rehearsed the script and song score again, and without realizing it, the carriage had reached the back door of the theater.
“Elena and the others must have arrived earlier. We need to hurry,” Lanlier led the way for Lacy.
The backstage corridor of the theater was bustling with activity. Some people were moving props, some wore peculiar costumes, and some actors had their faces painted with dyes, each with their own unique style. They finally entered a dressing room where many girls were sitting, some applying makeup in front of mirrors, while others were helping friends arrange headwear and check performance costumes.
“Lanlier, you finally came. I thought you’d be late,” someone said.
“No, I went to pick up a new companion. She will be singing behind the scenes today.”
“Oh, this lady is also going to perform today? I often see her in the shop, but unfortunately, I don’t know her name.”
“She really has talent. Last time I heard her sing from the second floor, I thought she was a famous songstress.”
“Teacher Felicia mentioned that she might be the main singer for the next festival.”
“Really? Isn’t it said that only renowned songstresses from across the continent are allowed to perform?”
“Yes, because I think her voice is even more beautiful than Flore’s, who performed here in Hope Lane.”
“I agree too. That time when I was practicing dance and left late, I almost cried hearing her sing alone in the dressing room.”
“I didn’t expect Rica to cry. Didn’t you always think you had a good singing voice?”
“There’s a huge gap. I can’t feel jealous. If Teacher Felicia says this is the level of the Azure Songstress, I believe it.”
“Alright, you guys can chat later. Help me fix my iris flower on my head. This is so troublesome,” a white-dressed girl complained while struggling with a complex headdress.
“Because you’re the leading lady today. Your clothes and accessories are all complicated,” two girls chattered as they helped the white-dressed girl adjust her headdress.
Lanlier then led Lacy into a quiet little dressing room nearby.
—
A day ago, in the West Wind Kingdom, the Wind-Blown Wilderness.
As the core region of the kingdom and the origin of the West Wind, this land was very prosperous.
Under the azure sky, like a mirror, the lush grass swayed gently in the breeze, rippling out to the distant horizon.
Suddenly, a horse’s hoof stepped on the green grass, with faint lightning flashing above it. After lifting, the hoofprint left a scorched yellow mark on the grass.
A group of knights dressed in bright armor came from the west. Their pure white and sharp lances pointed towards the sky like neatly aligned markers, and silver shields bore patterns of interwoven lightning and swords.
These knights were not numerous, only about 700 in total, all wearing bright silver armor. Their black warhorses had deep blue manes with lightning flowing through them.
They galloped swiftly across the land. Occasionally, rabbits from the grasslands would emerge from their burrows, but before they could escape, the knights had already rushed past, leaving only scorched hoofprints.
Covering a thousand kilometers required only a day, their speed was like thunder and lightning.
