Chapter 93

Watching the female prisoner crash headfirst into the metal wall of the carriage, half her head embedded into it, the female police officer didn’t even have time to rub her own sore chest. She quickly let go and rushed over, pulling the motionless prisoner “out” of the wall.

“What happened? How did she just crash into the wall? Wake up! You…”

“You… stop shouting for a second…”

After patting her shoulder, Leon, whose heart rate had skyrocketed past 160 and was drenched in cold sweat, leaned on her. Covering his ringing ears, he weakly advised, “She probably just knocked herself out. She won’t die… You… huff… shut up already, my ears are…”

“How is that possible!”

Though she didn’t know why the prisoner had done this, it was clearly related to Leon’s questioning. The frantic female officer shook off Leon’s hand and pointed at the dented wall, angrily shouting, “Look at this! Such a huge dent! This is iron! With that much force…”

“Stop looking at the wall, look at her head instead!”

“What’s the point of looking at her head? That’s iron! If the iron’s dented this much, how could her head… Huh?”

After checking the prisoner’s head and finding no blood, just a large red bump, the officer widened her eyes in shock, her gaze darting between the dented wall and the prisoner’s forehead.

“How… how is this possible? How can a human head be harder than iron?”

“Haha, if her head wasn’t tough, how could she be a rebel?”

After mumbling a couple of nonsense lines, Leon, feeling like half his stamina had been drained, leaned back in his seat, gasping for breath and relieved that he had reacted quickly enough.

The moment he noticed the prisoner was about to crash into the wall, he activated the Holy Spirit Pendant, using its power to alter reality and turn that small section of the wall into a rubber-like material.

Originally, Leon planned to maintain this state for a few seconds, at least until the wall returned to normal, to avoid the officer noticing anything strange. But the energy required to alter reality was far more than he expected. Just maintaining the “rubber” state for an instant drained most of his stamina. Realizing something was wrong, he didn’t even wait for the wall to bounce back and immediately let go of the pendant.

Once the power was cut off, the rubberized wall was instantly “corrected” back to its original state by reality’s pressure, leaving the prisoner’s head stuck in the “wall” instead of being bounced back…

After catching his breath for a while, Leon, now recovered, couldn’t help but smirk as he watched the officer still baffled by the “rebel’s iron head.” He then checked on the prisoner’s condition.

“She’s fine. Aside from her head swelling up, there’s no other external injury. She probably just knocked herself out, maybe a mild concussion.”

“That’s good, that’s good…”

Though Leon wasn’t a doctor, hearing his words somehow made the officer feel reassured. She then finally noticed his unusual state.

“You… what’s wrong with you? Why do you look so pale? And you’re sweating so much…”

“…”

I deserve it! Even though I knew people with anomalies tend to be extreme, I still didn’t prepare for her to go to such lengths immediately, giving her a chance to struggle.

With over half his stamina gone and his stomach growling, Leon chuckled bitterly in his heart, firmly remembering this lesson. He then casually replied, “I don’t know, maybe I’m just hungry… Anyway, what about you? Why are you taking her to the Lane family?”

“It’s about the assassination attempt on the princess…”

At this point, the officer hesitated, remembering Leon’s identity as a “damn rebel.” It felt strange to be telling him this, but recalling his bizarre interrogation earlier, she decided to come clean.

“The guns the rebels left at the scene were traced back to the Lane family’s armory. And she insisted that those guns were bought from the Lane family… Are you feeling unwell?”

Noticing Leon’s pale face and his hand unconsciously pressing against his stomach, the officer bit her lower lip and pulled out two candies from her pocket, roughly shoving them into his hand.

“…”

Even when trying to be nice, you have to act tough first, huh? You’re such a stubborn person…

After unwrapping the light pink candy wrapper and popping the heart-shaped milk candy into his mouth, Leon mumbled a thanks and continued asking, “So now, are you going to the Lane family to confront them about the armory?”

“No, I have other questions first!”

The officer shook her head, glancing at the unconscious prisoner before biting her lip hard. “During the assassination attempt, this person detonated a flour factory to create a diversion, causing many worker casualties. Though she’s not a good person, what turned her into this was ultimately the crimes committed by the Lane family in the past.

The armory issue can be handled by others, but if I don’t investigate what happened to her and her husband, no one else will. So I must get to the bottom of this and make sure those bastards get what they deserve!”

“Good, I hope you succeed.”

Though he shared the prisoner’s view that the officer would likely be stopped by the Lane family before getting any results, Leon still respected her determination to do the right thing, even if her methods were a bit naive. After some thought, he offered, “You saw my ability earlier. Most people can’t lie to me. If you run into any issues during your investigation, you can come to me for help.”

“…”

Seeing that Leon didn’t pour cold water on her or mock her beliefs, and was even willing to help, the officer felt a mix of emotions. She blinked, then awkwardly turned her head and muttered a barely audible “thank you.”

You’re such a weirdo…

Shaking his head in exasperation, Leon, out of gratitude for the candy, added, “Just be careful. The Lane family doesn’t play clean. Even if you have a strong background, they might still dare to mess with you.”

“Don’t worry, I’m prepared.”

The officer nodded solemnly. “The recent cases I’ve been working on are all related to the Lane family. To handle them, I’ve gone through most of the files on their family.

I know exactly how despicable and ruthless they are! I don’t need you to tell me to be extra careful!”

“Alright, as long as you’re aware.”

Seeing that the officer understood the danger, Leon didn’t say more. Instead, he leaned back in his seat, savoring the sweet milk candy in his mouth, trying to recover some stamina. But just as he closed his eyes, someone lightly poked his thigh.

“Don’t just talk about me, what about you?”

Looking at the only “Lane” she didn’t entirely dislike, the officer’s eyes showed a rare warmth as she asked curiously, “You’re going to the Lane family too, right? I’m going to find evidence of their crimes. What are you going for?”

“I’m going to reunite with family.”

“?????????”

“Here, this is your salary for the week.” After handing over a small pouch, the woman sitting behind the desk with her legs crossed casually ticked something off in a small notebook. Without even looking up, she waved her hand dismissively and said, “Remember to file your taxes… next!” “Wait!” After dumping the coins from the small pouch, Leon looked at the eight large and one small coin in his palm—nine filthy, worn-out coins in total. He couldn’t help but widen his eyes in shock, almost wanting to rush over and settle the matter right then and there. “Damn it! I just defeated an evil-god-like entity trying to invade the world on Tuesday! And you, you bastard, are actually deducting the salary of a savior?!”
