Chapter 63 Wildfire on the Vast Field – Part One
Two soldiers flipped in the air, flying out four or five meters before landing with a “plop” and “plop” sound in the snow, unable to make a sound, they passed out.
I finally lifted my head, surveying the surroundings.
Snowflakes danced in the wind, weaving the sky into a curtain of snow.
It seemed to be at the edge of a forest. In the distance, I could vaguely see rows of towering ancient trees stretching hundreds of meters away. The place where I stood was already a bald, flat snowy land.
The snow just swallowed my feet.
Not far to my right, there stood a building that looked like a watchtower, about several dozen meters high. It appeared quite old; the tower’s surface was severely damaged, with large patches of white paint peeling off, revealing the massive bricks inside.
At the top of the tall tower, several guards dressed in leather armor and wind coats stood. In the middle of them stood a black-haired man. Due to the distance, I couldn’t make out his face.
But I knew, that was Lafayette.
My gaze shifted to the base of the tower.
A circle of sharp ice spears, half a person high, surrounded the tower, their sharp tips gleaming with a beautiful luster in the twilight.
Outside the ice spears, countless city guards were poised for action, completely surrounding the dilapidated tower. At a glance, there were roughly five hundred people.
Behind the city guards, Edward, the Golden Mask, Varall, and the leader from before were standing. It seemed they had heard the commotion behind them and all turned their eyes toward me.
Then, they faced the situation as if it were a crisis.
Clang—
The leader drew his sword, and Varall gripped his cleaver tightly.
Edward widened his eyes, trembling as he stretched out his hand, pointing at me.
“You… How… You…”
He was so shocked he couldn’t speak.
I ignored him and waved my little hand towards Lafayette on the tower top.
Then he shouted to me.
“Pepé!”
“Are you okay?!”
I made an “OK” gesture at him, but then realized this gesture might not be popular here. Fearing he wouldn’t understand, I took a deep breath, cupped my hands around my mouth like a megaphone: “Don’t come out—!”
I thought for a moment and added another sentence.
“Wait for me!”
After shouting these two sentences, I immediately shivered and then tightened my legs, standing still without moving.
Perhaps it was because I was shocked that I wasn’t poisoned, or maybe it was due to the title of the Pope’s knight that scared them. Edward and the others who were surrounding the tower didn’t move, just staring at me blankly.
After a while, I sighed in relief, exhausted.
…That was close, almost came out.
“Cough cough.”
I rubbed my slightly sore throat with my hand.
My voice was particularly delicate. Not only did I usually speak softly and gently, even when shouting with all my might, it sounded soft and mellow. I wondered if Lafayette could hear me… Oh well, let’s go relieve myself first.
I really felt like I was going to burst.
I turned and walked in the opposite direction of the crowd. There were many black tents over there, very noticeable against the snow.
Because I didn’t dare run, I moved my calves quickly. After taking a few steps, Edward seemed to have just reacted: “Bullshit Pope’s knight… Lafayette! Who are you trying to scare!… What are you all doing just standing there! Catch her, she’s trying to run!”
His voice sounded somewhat panicked, and by the end, it broke, making me feel restless.
Run?
Only Li Mama would run.
So I said without looking back, “Don’t come closer! I’m not running!”
But my steps became even more rapid.
Whoosh—
The sound of arrows slicing through the air rang out. I pursed my lips and stepped to the right.
Two crossbow bolts pierced the snow, spraying snow onto my boots.
“Who shot those arrows!… Varall, do you want to die!”
“The prince, weren’t you the one who told us to catch her?”
“Catch her, why are you shooting arrows? Chase after her!”
“But I can’t beat her.”
“What does she want to do?”
“I don’t know…”
“Let her go, she’s too dangerous.”
“She can’t go! Chase!
“Let them go! I want them all pursued!”
Behind me, Edward’s voice grew increasingly insistent. I didn’t stop, my heart pounding with urgency. “Edward, I’m not leaving. Wait for me. I’ll be back to deal with you.”
Clearly, Edward wouldn’t believe my words.
The sound of hurried footsteps approached from behind, closing in on me. I took a deep breath.
Blocking a girl from using the toilet, you people are truly gentlemen.
I really can’t hold it anymore!
Mixed with anxious rage, I didn’t dare to turn back and confirm the numbers. A blue glow flashed in my eyes, and a large amount of frost mist spread from beneath my feet, surging towards the pursuers behind me.
Whoosh—
“Ahh!!”
“I—I’m frozen! I can’t move…”
“It’s so cold…”
This finally halted the city guards. It seemed no one dared to follow anymore.
I quickly walked to the first tent, tilting my head as I thought. Afraid of being heard, I hesitated but decided to continue forward.
After walking about a hundred meters, I stopped. Looking around, I saw no one. I moved to a nearby tent, hiding my small figure behind it, then raised my hand.
Bang bang—
The ice wall that sprang up was three meters high, enclosing me tightly.
Now I felt secure.
I quickly removed my undergarments and squatted down. The water gushed out like a stream.
…So relieving!!
My mood flowed like water, incredibly smooth, feeling rejuvenated instantly.
After a slight tremor, I pulled up my pants, patted my skirt to tidy it, and jumped out from the ice wall.
From the ruins tower, cries echoed faintly. My brows furrowed, and in the next moment, my eyes glowed blue.
Bang—
With the thrust of an ice pillar, my petite body shot upward, tracing a path over ten meters in the air. As I began to descend, an ice platform rose beneath my feet, allowing me to leap again, soaring over the heads of the frozen city guards, heading toward the ruins tower amid their shocked cries.
Rushing wind roared past my ears, and I stepped onto one ice platform after another, darting toward the battlefield like a soaring bird.
In the distance, the clash of weapons resounded continuously. At the foot of the ruins tower, countless city guards gripped their long swords, desperately hacking at the ice spikes, but to no avail. Those at the rear held light crossbows, shooting nonstop at the towering structure.
It was a desperate last stand.
Voices cried out.
“My Lord! Look! What is that?!”
“That girl! She’s back!”
“Hurry! Stop her, city guards!”
Peng!
A dive landed me firmly on the ground, sending snow and dirt flying half a meter high. I gathered my hair with my left hand, smoothing it back from my face, while holding my right hand out flat, gripping the air.
Taking a step forward.
Creak, creak.
Sss—
A dazzling short scythe, dripping with white mist, appeared in my hand.
