Chapter 9: The Magic Revolution Begins

Chapter 9: The Magic Revolution Begins

“Quite simple, really! I need a ton of money and resources, as well as talented folks to assist me in my magical research.”

“That is not simple at all!”

Linis bluntly retorted to Domiya’s audacious request.

“Linis, I believe you can make it happen! What I’m working on right now could hugely bolster our Elven Race’s strength! I’ve already made some breakthroughs, and you’ve seen the power of the Magic Energy Cannon. What I need is more investment! This could massively speed up the research. If I go back to the way I was studying alone, who knows how long it’ll take to see new results!”

Linis’s face fell into thought.

Domiya did have a point.

However, this was undeniably a huge investment.

She couldn’t simply overlook other areas of the Elven nation just to support Domiya’s magical research.

Seeing Linis deep in thought, Domiya continued, “You can’t imagine how complex the research is! It involves the study of Magic Runes, Magic Enchantment, Magic Equipment Design and Manufacture, Magic Materials, and Magic Ballistics…”

“Stop, stop, stop!”

Linis couldn’t take it anymore and shouted for her to halt.

A mountain of technical terms and redundant pronunciations made her ears feel like they were developing calluses.

In the end, she didn’t even catch half of what Domiya had said.

Domiya paused and looked at Linis, noticing she wasn’t ready to speak up just yet. She pressed on, “Everything I’ve mentioned—including what I haven’t yet named—I’ve managed to accomplish alone! But going forward, I’ll need to explore even broader and deeper topics. There’s no way I can do this solo! So, I really need your help, Linis!”

With that, she stopped, gazing at Linis with a pleading look.

Linis sighed and said, “I’ll do my best to support you with money and resources. But for talent, you’ll need to find a way on your own. Given your influence in the magical field and the new results you’ve developed, I’m sure many elves would be eager to work for you for free.”

“Fine! I’ll handle the talent part, but I’ll be relying on you for the money and resources.”

Having said that, Linis’s words left Domiya with no other choice but to accept.

But that also meant Domiya would need to put in a lot of work.

Still, as long as she could get those ideas from her mind into reality, any hardship would be worth it.

Linis nodded.

Meanwhile, Airael, having reached the human city of Bruz, was blissfully unaware that the magic revolution had officially begun among the Elven Race.

She was also fulfilling a wish she had held for three hundred years.

On the bustling streets of Bruz, Airael followed Hank as he led the way to their next destination—the Mercenary Guild.

Behind them trailed a few mercenaries from the Blue Whale Mercenary Group, with one holding a tightly wrapped package.

“Lady Ailia, we’ve arrived.”

They finally stopped outside a tavern.

Airael looked up at the sign.

It was a two-story establishment.

The words “Mercenary Tavern” were written in human script above.

“Isn’t this just a tavern?”

“It’s a tavern, but it’s also where the Mercenary Guild is located,” Hank grinned.

“Alright then!”

Airael accepted this answer.

She thought the Mercenary Guild would be… just a guild!

Hadn’t thought they’d be raking in extra coin on the side.

Plus, taverns are probably the biggest draw for those mercenaries risking their lives to earn money!

With that, it seemed the money earned through the Mercenary Guild basically went right back into the Guild’s pockets.

Airael couldn’t help but inwardly sigh: the leader of this Mercenary Guild must be a shrewd businessman!

As Hank led the way, Airael stepped into the Mercenary Tavern.

Inside, although there weren’t many patrons—only a handful—an overwhelming stench of alcohol filled the air, and the few people present spoke loudly, creating a cacophony.

Airael’s delicate face scrunched up under her cloak as she found this environment quite off-putting.

Elven taverns existed, and she’d been to a few before.

But the ambiance in Elven taverns was leagues better than this!

Both she and the mercenaries drew attention as they entered, quieting the few people inside.

“Isn’t that Hank? Who’s that mysterious cloaked figure next to him? I’m dying to know!”

Said a burly man with a red face, clearly drunk.

He staggered towards Airael with a goofy grin.

Faced with the approaching drunkard, Airael knitted her brows even tighter.

Just as she prepared to teach him a lesson, Hank stepped in, grabbing the man’s arm to block his approach.

The man squirmed, but no matter how hard he fought, he couldn’t break free.

“Vitt, you’re plastered! It’s time to head home for a rest. Get him out of here, fellas!”

As he spoke, Hank hastily gestured to the onlookers.

Without hesitation, the observers rushed forward to support Vitt, eager to haul him away.

“Wait! You still need to pay for your drinks!”

At that moment, the tavern’s server came out to interject.

“I’ll cover it for them.”

With that said, Hank pulled out a gold coin and handed it to the server.

Upon receiving the coin, the server wasted no time and respectfully stepped back to fetch Hank some change.

“Hank, we’ll pay you back later.”

With that, the group quickly escorted the struggling Vitt out.

The tavern’s atmosphere fell silent.

“Are you close with them?”

Airael turned to Hank and asked.

“We see each other regularly; you get to know folks after a while,” he shrugged.

Seeing this, Airael didn’t say anything more.

Hank let out a sigh of relief.

It seemed this esteemed Mage Lady hadn’t taken Vitt’s earlier rudeness to heart.

Just to be safe, while they waited for the server to return with the change, he added, “To be honest, Vitt is quite a pitiful soul. He used to be an exceptionally disciplined mercenary, but during one long mission, his wife was swept away by some pretty boy, and now look at him. All the hard-earned cash he once used to feed his family now goes to booze and debauchery.”

He intended to invoke Airael’s sympathy, hoping she would forgive Vitt’s earlier mishap.

“Er—!”

To learn that there was such a tale behind that man surprised Airael.

Now that was quite the cliché twist!
