Chapter 1, Section 10.
“But we look good and have great figures,” Yuan Xiaoling reassured Bai Ling, “we look good in anything, no matter what.”
That’s the gist of it…
Beep beep, Yuan Weicheng pulled the car up to the entrance and beckoned them to get in.
“Let’s go, aim to arrive before 11!”
Dad’s driving style is completely different from Bai Ling’s—his focus is on steady and careful driving. He checks the road carefully before moving forward.
Yuan Xiaoling rolled down the window, tilted her head slightly, and gazed at the slowly passing scenery outside.
Chunhai City is quite different from Tianhai City. There aren’t many skyscrapers in the downtown area, and the view is very open. The wind blowing across the plains doesn’t carry any hint of the sea, unlike Tianhai City where tall buildings block people’s view of the sky.
Chunhai City has no sea, and Tianhai City can’t see the sky.
“Dad, why is Chunhai City called Chunhai City?” Yuan Xiaoling asked curiously, “there’s no sea or beach here.”
“That’s a good question, one I also asked Grandpa before,” Yuan Weicheng smiled, “the core of ‘Chun’ lies in its lush vegetation, everywhere brimming with the atmosphere of spring. Vast fields of flowers and trees sway like ocean waves when the wind blows.”
Yuan Xiaoling understood—it was an impressionistic name.
Just then, a gust of wind blew by, causing the trees along the nearby ring mountain road to sway, creating endless waves of green that kept rolling. Even Bai Ling couldn’t help but sit up a little to take a look.
“Bai Ling, do you like this kind of scenery?” Yuan Xiaoling said sweetly, “I’ll bring you here next time?”
Then the Blonde Busty Girl softly hummed a song:
“Vast forests, a raindrop falls, the sound comes trickling, pitter-patter, as raindrops embrace the brook, the green melody~”
Bai Ling twitched her lips, too lazy to respond.
She was just a bit curious—how could there be such a large green zone so close to the city center? And judging by appearances, it didn’t seem like it was specifically planted for urban planning; it looked more like wild growth.
Soon the two girls realized that the green zones weren’t limited to the ring mountain road—they were everywhere along their route.
Yuan Xiaoling didn’t think much about it, finding everything new and exciting, happily humming songs all the way.
An hour later—
“Yes! We’ve arrived!”
Getting out of the car, the grand and imposing courtyard in front of them was none other than the Yuan Family Compound.
Yuan Xiaoling stood at the gate of the courtyard, looking around, feeling that the Yuan Family Compound was a miniature reflection of the entire Chunhai City, due to its high level of greening, with plants visible everywhere along the roadsides.
Bai Ling followed her gaze, squinting her eyes slightly.
These plants, though appearing rough and wildly growing, upon closer inspection, were all neatly positioned along the roadsides, perhaps with some unique designs, but never obstructing people’s paths.
And when they entered, these plants seemed to nod slightly.
Not out of politeness, but more like when you return home during the holidays and report your studies to your elders, after saying a lot, they lightly nod, meaning “read and noted.”
“Uncle,” Bai Ling asked softly, “you mentioned earlier that the entire Yuan Family Compound is under Grandfather’s control?”
“Yeah, I heard it from others too. My older brother once told me…”
“Wei Cheng! Xiao Ning!”
A robust voice came from ahead: “You’re back.”
A middle-aged man wearing a short-sleeve shirt, looking spirited, walked toward them.
“I’ve brought Ning Ning back, Big Brother,” Yuan Weicheng greeted Yuan Xiaoling, “call him Uncle.”
“Uncle.”
Even though she didn’t know him, Ning Ning was obedient.
“You’ve finally come back, I’ve missed you both,” Yuan’s uncle approached them, noticing Bai Ling beside Yuan Xiaoling, “and this young lady is…?”
“She’s Ning Ning’s classmate and good friend, her name is Bai Ling.” Yuan Weicheng introduced.
So Yuan’s uncle gave her a brief greeting, not paying much attention. It was common for family members to occasionally bring friends home.
Bai Ling was a bit confused, unsure of what to call him.
Call him Uncle? But she had already called Yuan Weicheng Uncle, and since Yuan’s uncle was over ten years older than Yuan Weicheng, it would feel strange to use the same title.
Call him Big Uncle? That would make it seem like she had already married into the Yuan family and changed her address to match Yuan Xiaoling’s…
However, before she could figure it out, Yuan’s uncle had already pulled Yuan Weicheng aside to chat privately.
“You must have heard, those kids have taken an interest in Xiaoling.”
Yuan Weicheng nodded solemnly.
“I don’t know what happened either. Since that day, it seems like they saw some pictures online and became interested in Xiaoling,” Yuan’s uncle said, “even my own son showed some interest, but I scared him off.”
Before today, even Yuan’s uncle was puzzled why so many young relatives suddenly started showing interest in a previously overlooked younger niece. Meeting her in person today made things clearer.
It seemed the little niece had grown into a big niece.
He glanced around, lowering his voice: “Grandfather hasn’t commented on the matter, but he probably won’t encourage it. You know, in this era, bringing outsiders in as sons-in-law is the best option.”
The early stage of spiritual awakening is the reserve period for spiritual power users. All the families are hoarding strength. As the patriarch, Grandfather naturally hopes the young ones in the family will bring back a few talented potentials, male or female, it doesn’t matter as long as they join the family.
“Of course, his top priority, which supersedes everything else, is true love,” Yuan’s uncle added, “this principle is even higher than the previous one, so he gives the young ones opportunities to display themselves.”
Meaning, if you have strong true love, relationships don’t matter.
Yuan Weicheng blinked in surprise: “Is Grandfather really so open-minded?”
“It’s not being open-minded,” Yuan’s uncle smiled mysteriously, “you haven’t delved into the realm of spiritual power users, so you might not understand. Let’s just say Grandfather has deep plans.”
“…”
At the gate, Dad was pulled aside by Uncle to whisper, leaving Yuan Xiaoling standing still… oh wait, acting like a good girl.
“There are so many beautiful flowers and plants in the yard, beautifully designed. We might not need to go outside. Just touring the compound would be enough, right Bai Ling? Definitely not because I want to stay lazy at home… Bai Ling?”
The Blonde-haired Maiden turned her head only to find the White-haired Maiden closing her eyes, resting, who knows for how long.
A few minutes later, Bai Ling opened her eyes and saw a cute little face staring at her expectantly.
“What’s wrong with you? Did you fall asleep standing up?”
Seriously? She had been crushed by Dabeitu’s overwhelming aura days ago, and now she’s still this tired?
“I just tested the plants,” Bai Ling replied calmly, “they were interesting.”
They were indeed interesting. Her spiritual power went in like a stone sinking into the sea without a trace, the first time she’d been thwarted since her rebirth.
Maybe… Tier Six.
Meanwhile, after finishing his chat with Yuan’s uncle, Yuan Weicheng was about to turn and leave to settle Yuan Xiaoling and Bai Ling down.
At this moment, Yuan’s uncle suddenly heard something, stepped a few paces to a plant, bent down to listen for a while, then called out to Yuan Weicheng.
“Wait a sec, Wei Cheng!”
He came closer, glanced at the direction of the gate, and whispered: “Grandfather asks, what’s the relationship between your daughter and her junior? Answer honestly.”
