Chapter 8: The True Origin of Airael
Although the Magic Energy Cannon seemed impressive and alluring, what truly caught Linis’s attention was the blue Magic Circle.
She knew that this blue Magic Circle was Domiya’s greatest achievement.
Upon closer inspection, Linis noticed many unfamiliar magical runes on the blue Magic Circle.
Although her profession was that of a Grand Priestess, as a naturally magic-sensitive Elf, Linis had a decent understanding of magic.
She was certain that these magical runes had never appeared before, which meant that these new, never-before-seen runes were created by Domiya over the past century.
With this thought in mind, Linis sighed, “Domiya, you really are a magical genius!”
A century sounds like a long time, but for certain pursuits, a hundred years isn’t very long at all.
Take magic exploration, for instance. The Elves have been ahead of the world in magic for many years, yet it must be noted that their magic hasn’t made significant progress in quite a while.
Today, however, Domiya had pushed Elven magic forward by a great leap.
“Actually, this should be credited to Your Majesty. Without the inspiration she provided, I wouldn’t have created these,” Domiya said, also gazing at the magical runes.
As her words fell, the Magic Energy Cannon finally charged up completely.
With a booming sound, the powerful recoil transmitted from the cannon to the ground, shaking the earth beneath.
Caught off guard, Linis nearly stumbled over.
But Linis was too focused to care about that.
She fixed her gaze on the flying Magic Sphere.
The Magic Sphere shot forth as fast as a crossbow bolt, but it seemed to have a longer range than the crossbow. Next, it was time to see its real power and accuracy.
The Magic Sphere flew on the predetermined trajectory, tracing a beautiful arc as it hit its target.
“Boom——!”
Upon hitting the target, the Magic Sphere exploded without mercy.
As the target, the Stone Golem was the first to be caught in the blast, with the powerful shockwave shattering its body and sending its parts flying ten meters away.
“How was the power?” Domiya asked, watching everything unfold.
“Very strong, on par with high-level magic,” Linis replied honestly.
Linis proudly continued, “Of course! This is my painstakingly developed magical equipment, and it also incorporates many inspirations from Your Majesty. But this is just the first generation version, with only a 300mm caliber. I still have some improvement plans for it, like increasing the caliber of the cannon or making adjustments to the Magic Circle itself.”
Linis looked at Domiya with astonishment.
If the first generation is already this powerful, the improved version might approach War Magic levels.
Then she glanced at the Magic Energy Cannon, and then at the area where the Magic Sphere had just exploded.
As the smoke from the explosion dissipated, a large pit had formed in its place.
However, she still didn’t understand some of the terms, so she asked, “Domiya, I understand about improving the Magic Circle, but what does ‘caliber’ mean?”
“Caliber! This is something Your Majesty told me. Linis, you see, the cannon’s mouth is round. No matter if it’s from top to bottom or left to right, its maximum straight-line distance is currently 300mm, which is its caliber. She also mentioned something about ‘caliber equals justice, range equals truth,’ but I don’t really understand what that means.”
Linis nodded, signaling that she understood.
She didn’t seem surprised by that.
“Linis, where exactly did you bring back Your Majesty from? And where did she get all this knowledge?”
While Linis didn’t find it strange, Domiya was puzzled.
She was sure that these things had never existed before, yet Airael could talk about them so confidently.
Even though they were just snippets of conversation, when she followed those snippets to explore, she found that they could truly be realized, just like this Magic Energy Cannon.
Linis’s expression suddenly turned extremely serious as she looked at Domiya and asked, “Domiya, can I trust you?”
“Linis, I have a feeling I know what you’re planning. Please don’t worry; as Your Majesty’s magic teacher, we are closely linked. Plus, having such an interesting and knowledgeable queen is truly rare.”
“Actually, you had already guessed it before.”
Linis replied with a wry smile.
“Ah! I guessed it!”
Domiya was genuinely surprised.
“Yeah, Your Majesty is someone I brought back from my mother tree.”
“Linis, you’re joking, right? How is that even possible?”
Domiya looked incredulous.
Even if the legend states that the first Elves were born from the Tree of Life, records show that the Tree of Life has never given birth to Elves.
“This was an experiment I once conducted, aimed at using the legendary tree that can give birth to Elves to produce new life for our Elven race. Originally, this experiment was supposed to fail, but the result was a miraculous success. The mother tree successfully gave birth to our queen, though only to her.”
Domiya was still in shock.
What Linis said completely surpassed her understanding.
Moreover, experiments and creating life were taboo!
For Mages, it was forbidden territory, let alone for the Grand Priestesses of the Life Temple.
Coming to her senses, Domiya looked at Linis with a wry smile and said, “Linis, you really are something else. I thought your upcoming plans were wild enough, but it turns out you’ve done something even crazier before! You truly are a madwoman!”
“A madwoman? Perhaps, yes!”
Linis sighed, “But all of this is for the Elven race!”
Seeing Linis like this, Domiya also sighed.
As a member of the Elven race, witnessing its gradual decline was hard for her too.
“So, is it possible that the new knowledge in Your Majesty’s mind was gifted to her by the mother tree?”
Linis nodded, “That seems to be the only explanation.”
Finally reaching such an answer was beyond Domiya’s expectations; what began as a joke ended up becoming true, leaving her unable to laugh at all.
After a while, Domiya, slightly recovering, looked at Linis and said, “Let’s not talk about Your Majesty anymore. Let’s continue discussing the Magic Energy Cannon. I need your help with its improvements, Linis.”
“How can I help you?” Linis asked.
