Chapter 8: Domiya’s Dilemma: The Student’s Staff is Too Awesome
“Your Majesty, it’s time to rise! You don’t have much time left; you have class soon, so please don’t be deliberately late.”
Hela’s expression turned serious.
This caught Airael off guard for a moment.
Talk about a mood swing!
Where did that gentle Teacher Hela go? Was that just my imagination?
Regardless of what Airael was thinking, she had to accept her fate, get up, and go to class.
However, she was feeling less resistant to the afternoon lessons now.
As the Elven Queen, she was determined to fulfill her role and not let her fellow Elves down.
The next morning, Airael jumped out of bed with enthusiasm.
Even though she had stayed up late the night before, she was still full of energy today.
All thanks to magic!
Soon, Teacher Domiya would officially teach her magic.
She would learn one by one those mysterious and powerful spells, thus becoming stronger.
Yesterday’s misunderstanding made Airael even more eager to learn magic.
Once she mastered magic, she would have the means to protect herself and earn her place in this world.
After being attended to by her maids and getting washed and dressed, Airael took the Staff of Eternity that Hela handed her and headed toward the dining hall.
The bottom of the staff clacked against the floor with each step she took.
Standing at only about 1.3 meters, she was balancing a nearly 2-meter-long staff, creating a rather awkward scene, causing her to walk less gracefully than usual. But Airael was delighted!
With the staff in hand, she felt as towering and dignified as the staff itself.
After a satisfying meal, Airael arrived on time for class with Hela and the other Elves.
Domiya was already at the classroom, as usual.
As Airael walked in, Domiya’s gaze shifted to her.
Instantly, Domiya’s attention was captured by the staff Airael was holding.
After examining the staff closely, Domiya could not help but exclaim, “Staff of Eternity!”
Domiya’s gasp made Hela flinch slightly.
At that moment, she finally remembered why the Queen’s staff looked so familiar.
So it was the Staff of Eternity!
“Teacher Domiya, what’s wrong?”
Airael asked, puzzled.
Domiya’s eyes moved from the staff back to Airael, not answering her question but instead asking, “Your Majesty, was this staff prepared for you by Lady Linis?”
“That’s right! I really like it.”
Airael replied happily.
Domiya’s expression turned into a wry smile, unsure how to describe Linis’s actions.
Linis, you really know how to play!
I was worried you would prepare a subpar staff for the Queen’s practice, but instead, you provided her with this rare artifact!
Well, at least I don’t have to worry about the Queen struggling with magic now.
But this isn’t a good thing either.
Having too good of a staff isn’t ideal for a magic novice.
It might lead the mage to become overly dependent on their staff.
While mages typically won’t part from their staves, if a mage possesses a decent natural ability, adding a staff’s boost will yield even better spell effects.
Meanwhile, in the Life Temple’s office, Lady Linis smiled slightly at the thought that Domiya must have seen the staff she prepared for the Queen.
However, she quickly returned to her serious demeanor to deal with the paperwork.
With the Humans declaring war on the Elves, her workload had increased.
“Teacher Domiya!”
In the classroom, Airael noticed her teacher suddenly zoning out and had to call out.
Snapping back, Domiya looked at Airael and asked, “Your Majesty, may I make a request?”
“A request? What request?”
“During the upcoming magic practice, could you please refrain from using the staff you’re holding?”
“Eh! Why not? Didn’t you say having a staff enhances practice?”
“That’s true, but Your Majesty, the quality of the staff you possess is too high. It’s not beneficial for you right now.”
“Then why did Linis give me such a staff? Doesn’t she know?”
Airael furrowed her brow, confused.
“Lady Linis certainly knows, but that brings us to the staff you’re holding.”
Upon hearing this, Airael looked at the staff in her hand.
Domiya continued to explain, “The staff you hold is our Elven Race’s legacy artifact—the Staff of Eternity. Only the Elven Queen of each generation is eligible to wield it, meaning Lady Linis entrusted it to you thinking it should return to its rightful owner.”
Airael nodded in understanding, her earlier grudge against Linis evaporating entirely.
She then looked at Domiya and said, “Alright, Teacher Domiya, I won’t use it for now.”
Domiya nodded in satisfaction and glanced at Hela beside her. “Good, then Your Majesty’s staff will be entrusted to Hela for safekeeping.”
“Hela!”
Airael turned to Hela, exclaiming and extending the Staff of Eternity.
“I’m entrusting my staff to you now.”
“Your Majesty, I will take good care of it.”
With that, Hela stepped forward, stretching out her hands solemnly to receive the Staff of Eternity, holding it high.
After handing over her staff, Airael felt a fleeting sense of reluctance.
It was just that holding the Staff of Eternity felt so fantastic!
But Airael chose to trust Domiya.
Once she solidified her resolve, a look of relief spread across Airael’s face.
She realized she had unknowingly been tempted by the Staff of Eternity.
The feeling of “With this staff in hand, I can conquer the world” was simply too alluring.
“Your Majesty, you have made a very wise decision.”
Domiya praised her.
However, Airael didn’t want to dwell on the staff anymore and directly said, “Teacher Domiya, can we start learning magic now?”
She felt quite miserable.
She had just obtained an artifact but couldn’t use it.
Fortunately, according to Domiya, she would eventually be able to use the Staff of Eternity in the future.
Domiya smiled and shook her head.
“Why?”
“Are you planning to practice dangerous magic in the classroom?”
Domiya countered.
Airael couldn’t help but laugh awkwardly.
