Chapter 79: Sko’s Weakness
With the Sword of Dawn crackling with lightning in her grip, Airael’s eyes fixed ahead.
She was waiting, waiting for Sko to break through this wall in front of her.
At that moment, Sko had already smashed through other earthen barriers and was on the verge of crashing through this one as well.
The obstruction of the wall had significantly diminished his charging momentum.
This was exactly what Airael needed.
If Sko had come at her with his initial force, she wouldn’t have had much confidence in facing him.
So, she needed to weaken Sko’s charge just a bit.
Boom—!
As Sko continued his rush, the last wall in front of Airael crumbled under his brute strength.
After breaking through the wall, Sko paused for a brief moment.
Airael seized the opportunity and lunged at Sko.
Upon reaching him, her right hand thrust the Sword of Dawn fiercely at his abdomen.
“Clang!”
With the metallic clash echoing, Airael’s expression changed instantly.
She hadn’t pierced through Sko’s armor.
But fortunately, her sword crackled with power from the lightning.
Though the lightning energy didn’t make direct contact with Sko’s body, it was still transmitted to him.
The intense surge of lightning instantly numbed Sko’s body, making it even harder for him to move while already somewhat stiff.
A strike that didn’t succeed? No problem, Airael withdrew her sword and stabbed again!
But the outcome was the same.
At this, Airael was panicking internally.
This guy’s defense is off the charts!
Just after this fleeting thought, Airael noticed Sko was gradually shaking off the numbness.
Even though the lightning energy on him hadn’t fully dissipated, he seemed to be developing some sort of resistance to it.
Without a second thought, Airael quickly retreated.
As Sko became mobile again, his eyes locked onto Airael with determination.
At this point, the lightning energy hadn’t vanished entirely, flickering around him like mini-thunderstorms.
But these were of no use at all.
Once he loosened up a bit, Sko charged towards Airael.
Airael executed a nimble sidestep to evade Sko’s rush, and deftly swiped at his ribs with her sword.
The blade left only a harmless scratch.
Another failed attack made Airael realize she had to hit a weak point in Sko’s defense next time.
Otherwise, it would be tough to inflict any real damage, and her attacks would simply be annoying, like tickling a giant.
Failing to do damage wouldn’t just be unproductive; it would also put her in a dangerous position.
While attacking is the best defense, ineffective and pointless strikes are about as good as handing over a death sentence.
As Sko regained his breath from the charge, he immediately swung his axe down at Airael from the side.
Airael bent backwards, avoiding the blow.
Her upper body almost parallel to the ground.
Once Sko’s axe swiped over her, Airael quickly rolled away, putting some distance between them.
After creating some space, Airael began searching for Sko’s weak spots in his defense.
After sizing him up, her gaze landed on Sko’s neck.
At the same time, she recalled the scenes she had seen of Axi slaughtering those orcs.
Axi usually struck from the neck area to take them down swiftly.
This spot was one of the vital areas and also a relatively weak point.
Orcs couldn’t don the kind of full-body armor that humans could.
In fact, it was only the wealthier human nobles who could afford armor that offered full coverage.
Due to limited resources, orcs often neglected protection for their necks.
However, delivering a fatal blow to their necks was easier said than done.
Orcs would certainly be wary of such targeted assaults on their vulnerabilities.
Unless they truly had no way out, in which case it was game over.
Sko’s neck, like those of other orcs, was devoid of armor protection.
Even though Airael realized there was a striking chance, she was quite aware of her own limitations.
Hitting Sko’s neck would be an incredibly tough feat for her.
Airael tightened her grip on the Staff of Eternity and the Sword of Dawn.
Feeling the two weapons in her hands, especially the Staff of Eternity, her resolve swiftly solidified.
No matter how hard, she had to go for it.
After all, she was the Elven Queen.
The path ahead was long and fraught with challenges.
Every one of them was something she needed to overcome.
After adjusting her mindset, Airael stowed the Staff of Eternity and held the Sword of Dawn aloft.
Her gaze was unwaveringly fixed on Sko as he walked towards her.
That’s right, keep coming!
However, even so, Airael dared not relax.
The pressure emanating from Sko only intensified.
Something’s off about this!
Watching Sko steadily approaching, Airael couldn’t help but instinctively take a step back.
This isn’t running away!
It’s a strategic redeployment.
Until she grasped Sko’s intentions, it was wiser not to get too close.
Just as Airael was retreating, Sko suddenly accelerated.
Like a bloodthirsty beast, he charged at Airael.
The sudden shift caught Airael completely off guard.
By the time she realized something was wrong, Sko was right in front of her, his axe raised high and coming down with full force!
His bloodshot eyes gleamed with excitement.
He was going to slay that damned human mage.
This exhilarating revelation brought Sko a sliver of clarity amidst his frenzy.
Airael’s eyes widened as she perceived this abrupt turn of events.
Her mind went blank for an instant.
I’m going to die!
No, I refuse to die!
Airael clenched her teeth.
Though she had lived for three hundred years in this world, by previous world standards, she should have lived long enough, but still, the past was the past.
In her past life, she was human, but in this life, she was an elf.
While elves and humans share similarities, they are ultimately very different.
In elven society, three hundred years is hardly anything.
So, she definitely hadn’t lived enough yet!
Moreover, there were still many things she wished to achieve in this world!
As her mind started to function again, Airael immediately activated her magical gear.
In an instant, a golden Magic Power Shield enveloped her securely.
A golden Magic Circle also appeared beneath her feet.
Sko’s axe crashed down hard against the Magic Power Shield.
While cracks appeared on the shield, thankfully it blocked Sko’s strike.
