Chapter 79: Alien Rules of Heaven and Earth
Four periods of time have passed.
Ninefold Flower Mountain remains shrouded in darkness. Aside from the thunder and heavy rains, there appears to be no immediate danger approaching.
Disciples from the various chambers have all calmed down and have started to return to their respective chambers.
Inside the Biyan Cave.
Yao Jianyuan and Chen Ansheng are presently in a hidden chamber located on the top floor of the library.
The two of them are searching for records related to the “No-Go Zones.”
“Senior Brother Yao, this jade disc contains information about the No-Go Zones.”
After inspecting countless jade discs, Chen Ansheng finally found one in a corner that contained records about the No-Go Zones.
“Let’s take a closer look!”
Yao Jianyuan gestured to Chen Ansheng to release the information from the jade disc.
Chen Ansheng used his spiritual energy to break the seal on the jade disc, and a simple-looking ancient book hovered in front of the two of them.
Both quickly scanned it with their spiritual energy and read through all the information inside.
“Who would have thought the No-Go Zones are so terrifying.”
After reading it, Chen Ansheng couldn’t help but sigh.
The book recorded various types of No-Go Zones. As for their origins, there were many guesses, including the theory of spatial rifts.
The gist was this: the No-Go Zones in the Immortal World were also caused by the great battles of ancient times.
Compared to lower realms, these battles were even more fearsome, not simply breaking space but also rupturing the River of Time. Some powerful ancient Immortals and their artifacts were tossed into the River of Time, floating for countless years.
Some great beings have speculated that the River of Time does not flow peaceably but rather has time-space waves and vortices. By a strange coincidence, some of the things flowing in the River of Time would fall into the Immortal Realm, forming No-Go Zones.
Of course, this was just one of the guesses.
Other great beings believed that the Immortal Realm people lived in was not unique. Besides this Immortal Realm, there were also other parallel Immortal Realms that were equally stable. No-go Zones might be creatures or items fallen from broken spaces of these parallel worlds.
There was even another hypothesis suggesting that above the Immortal Realm, there is a higher-level world, and these No-Go Zones were remnants of battles in the higher realm. However, not many great beings endorse this theory since no Immortal Emperor has been known to ascend through the realms throughout history, so most considered this idea unconvincing.
In any case, these were all just speculations of the powerful beings.
But there was one consensus among them: all phenomena inside No-Go Zones were catastrophic, constituted by utterly different rules from the present Immortal Realm. Whether it be lifeforms or objects, No-Go Zones are fundamentally built on alien rules.
Once anything from a No-Go Zone leaks out, at best it could disrupt the local rules of the land and self-form a realm of alien rules. At worst, it could destroy hundreds of thousands of miles of space-time.
After some investigation, Chen Ansheng and Yao Jianyuan confirmed that the anomaly they encountered this time was a rather basic one, which only disrupted a small portion of the rules, forming a very small realm of alien rules.
“Fortunately, this kind of anomaly usually disappears within a month.”
After gaining more knowledge, Chen Ansheng was a bit relieved.
The rules of the sky and earth have self-repairing capabilities, and typically within a month, it would completely eliminate the alien rules.
“Don’t get too excited yet”. Yao Jianyuan frowned anxiously, “We are currently isolated from the normal world. Our spiritual powers will rapidly deplete, and due to the changes in the rules of the earth and sky, there is no method to replenish our vital energy to sustain our lives. Within a month, we will dry up into corpses.”
Upon hearing this, Chen Ansheng continued reading, realizing the danger of being inside a realm of alien rules was much more severe than expected.
Not only might they encounter assaults of chaotic rules, but their spiritual energy would also continuously dissipate. Items like spirit crystals or purple crystals couldn’t provide any replenishment.
Even worse, if any creature of the No-Go Zones were to appear, those trapped would have almost no chance of survival.
Because creatures from No-Go Zones, within the rules they create, can unleash their full combat power, while cultivators from the Immortal Realm cannot control the forces of the land, and their powers will continue to decrease as their spirit energy fades, making them no match for creatures from the No-Go Zones.
“Let’s hope no creature from the No-Go Zones appears.”
Chen Ansheng murmured.
“Clawwwk…Clawwwk…Clawwwk…”
No sooner had he spoken these words than a series of ear-piercing cries resonated through the air.
Boom!
The entire Ninefold Flower Mountain trembled as if struck by an earthquake. The library in the Biyan Cave was nearly collapsing.
“You’re such a harbinger of bad luck! Let’s go!”
The two immediately felt a chill down their spines, and Yao Jianyuan pulled Chen Ansheng outside and took off into the air.
Outdoors.
Chen Ansheng looked up and saw a massive black bird flying amidst dark clouds and flashing crimson lightning in the darkened sky.
Numerous Immortal Realm cultivators were rushing to attack the bird, but the battle seemed to be at a stalemate.
“What kind of monster is this…”
Staring at the black bird emitting an extremely unusual aura, Yao Jianyuan felt a chill run down his spine.
He felt that if he were forced to fight, all it would take was one sweep of the bird’s dark wing to turn him into ashes.
“Look somewhat familiar…”
Chen Ansheng muttered as he stared at the bird.
Suddenly, an image flashed across his mind; the black bird resembled the ones he had encountered in the No-Go Zone in the Yunlong Realm.
However, at that time, the black birds flying above the darkened ground were all illusions.
This one, however, was real!
“Boom… Boom… Boom…”
A series of terrifying explosions brought Chen Ansheng back to the present.
Beneath the dark sky, many Immortals fought the bird in their physical forms and were ultimately no match, eventually falling one by one.
“Jianyuan, the four chamber elders have joined forces to activate the ancestral grounds. Everyone’s heading there for refuge! You’d better hurry!”
At this moment, Gu Jue in the late True Immortal stage shouted to Yao Jianyuan.
“The ancestral grounds are open? Fine! Senior Brother, go ahead. I’ll follow quickly!”
Yao Jianyuan responded and prepared to take Chen Ansheng along to take refuge in the ancestral grounds.
“Senior Brother Yao, what exactly are these ancestral grounds?”
While fleeing, Chen Ansheng asked.
“They are the burial grounds of the successive ancestral masters of Ninefold Flower Mountain, forming a small, independent realm. Perhaps they will help us survive this calamity.” Yao Jianyuan explained.
“And such a good place wasn’t opened earlier! What gives?” Chen Ansheng muttered.
“As far as I know, these ancestral grounds…”
Wang!
Yao Jianyuan’s words were cut off by a space vortex that suddenly appeared in front of them.
“What the hell! Rule chaos flow!”
Yao Jianyuan screamed as his figure was sucked into it.
Chen Ansheng was scared witless and instinctively released a surge of mental energy, activating the cross-border stone.
As his figure was just being swept into the vortex by the turbulent flow of rules, he then disappeared into thin air.
…
The Palace of the Forbidden Realm in the Yunlong World.
“Huff… Huff… Huff…”
Chen Ansheng lay sprawled on a delicate dragon chair, breathing heavily.
“Good thing I reacted quickly! I wonder if Yao Jianyuan survived…”
Chen Ansheng, in a state of confusion, silently rejoiced for having temporarily escaped with his life while also feeling sorry and powerless about Yao Jianyuan’s fate.
“Alas.”
After a moment’s pause, Chen Ansheng sighed in despair. His cross-border stone could only transport himself, not others; otherwise, he might have considered saving Yao Jianyuan’s life.
“Let me set other thoughts aside for now. Since I can only hide in the lower realms for seven days, which equals to seven periods of time in the Immortal Realm, what should I do next?”
Chen Ansheng’s fear had not subsided. After seven periods of time in the Immortal Realm, he would return, and he didn’t know what he would do then.
