“Yeah, that noble prince is almost in Orlen City.”
If it were just another day, handling this level of public opinion would be a piece of cake, especially since those local newspapers already have ties to the Church.
But times have changed.
Once this guy in front of me decides to spread unfavorable news while the second prince is staying in Orlen City, I can’t even imagine how badly things will turn out for him.
Thinking this, Mozell suddenly halted, his face shifting through emotions as he fell into an unprecedented silence.
Lynn, noticing this, didn’t rush him; instead, he casually fiddled with the firearms in his hands.
After an unknown amount of time, Mozell slowly turned around.
“Let’s talk.” It was as if he had forgotten his earlier words, brows furrowed, “I believe there’s no irreconcilable conflict between us; there’s no need for this to escalate to a life-or-death situation.”
“Remember, it wasn’t me who stripped you of your divine factor. In essence, your real enemies are just the headquarters and a few from the Mosgra Family.”
Mozell decided to temporarily compromise.
If he could trade a small part of his assets to keep things quiet for now, it would be worth it.
“Nine hundred thousand.”
Lynn shot back like a lion, “Not a chance!” He continued, “Also, this isn’t a good place for negotiations; we should find another spot.”
With a wave, two of his trusted subordinates immediately approached.
“Another place?” Lynn considered for a moment, then nodded, “Sure, but I’ll decide the time and place.”
“I don’t trust you Church people.”
As if I trust you either! Mozell thought coldly to himself, then shook his head.
“Right now, you’re the one asking for money from me, so I have the authority to call the shots.”
He turned down Lynn’s proposal.
To be honest, Mozell was already feeling a strong urge to kill.
He decided to set up a trap.
If he could get rid of this nuisance completely, not only could he swiftly close the chapter on recent events, but he might also win the friendship of the Mosgra Family.
“Then there’s nothing to discuss.”
Lynn looked rather carefree and turned to leave.
Seeing this, Mozell panicked.
After all, all the control in this situation lay in Lynn’s hands.
He hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth, “You pick the time, I’ll pick the place!”
Upon hearing this, Lynn stopped.
He seemed to be debating whether this deal was worth it.
After a moment, the black-haired, blue-eyed youth turned back and returned to Mozell and his two subordinates.
“First, let’s settle the place.”
At this, Mozell sighed in relief, “Right at the Church—”
He intended to suggest the Church for the negotiations since he would have his own people around, making it easier to maneuver.
But looking around at the large buildings turned to ruins, Mozell immediately stopped speaking.
The Church was no longer a viable option.
So where should it be?
A property of his in Orlen City?
No way.
Since it was in the city center, if anything went wrong, it could blow up into a scandal.
If he wanted to arrange for a killing, it had to be somewhere under the Church’s jurisdiction, discreet and seldom visited.
Well, there was only one answer.
“The Samuel Bell Tower on the outskirts of the Northern District.”
Mozell said slowly.
Samuel was the first bishop of the Church in the Orlen City district.
Back in the day, to resist the demon invasion, he led all the Transcendents of the Church outside Orlen City for a deadly stand, eventually sacrificing himself.
To commemorate him, people spontaneously built the Samuel Bell Tower at the site of the hero’s death. Moreover, on this day every year, the believers of the Church gather to ring the bell for the souls of the heroes.
This wasn’t an official ceremony held by the Church, but rather a spontaneous act by the believers.
Over time, the Samuel ceremony became a tradition, beyond the Church’s control.
However, since it was located in a remote area, hardly anyone went there.
Even if someone died inside the tower, it wouldn’t be discovered.
That was why Mozell chose this spot for the negotiations.
“Sounds good.” Lynn didn’t hesitate, but then seemed to remember something, “However, I seem to recall that the Samuel ceremony is in seven days. Is picking that place okay?”
You’re still thinking about seven days later? Focus on surviving this deal first. Mozell sneered inwardly but maintained his expression, “To reach an agreement, perhaps one night tomorrow will suffice.”
“Alright, let’s set it for tomorrow night.” Lynn concluded decisively, “I hope to see your sincerity then.”
“You will.”
Mozell replied lightly.
Lynn nodded before preparing to turn away.
But just then, he suddenly stopped, “Oh, one more thing.”
“To prevent complications, during the negotiations, aside from these two, no one else should appear near the Samuel Bell Tower; otherwise, I’ll flip out.”
“Understood.”
Mozell agreed to his request.
In fact, that suited him just fine.
Then Mozell watched as Lynn left the Church of Heavenly Justice.
Looking at the scattered coins around and the remnants of the burned Church, he took a deep breath.
As long as he could take out this culprit, everything would be worth it.
Even if he might offend the third princess, as long as he gained the protection of the second prince, he didn’t believe that woman truly had the guts to kill him.
With this thought, Mozell decided to take advantage of the last moments to carefully plan the entire ambush.
“Don’t say a word about what just happened to anyone.” Mozell said to his two trusted subordinates, “Let’s treat this plan as a secret operation for just the three of us.”
“Also, recall the guards stationed at the Samuel Bell Tower and give them a day off.”
He understood the importance of secrecy.
As a Fourth Stage Transcendent, paired with two Third Stage subordinates, plus some powerful Sealed Items from the Church, this lineup could ensure no return for the other side, unless they happened to run into a Fifth Stage Legend.
That woman surely wouldn’t dispatch a legendary powerhouse to babysit him, right?
“Yes, my lord bishop.”
After watching the bishop Samuel leave, the two subordinates began speaking in hushed tones.
“Didn’t the date for the Samuel ceremony seem like it’s not in seven days?”
One of the subordinates looked hesitant.
“Maybe you misremembered.” The other seemed oblivious to the discrepancy, “I thought it was seven days too.”
“And besides, even the bishop didn’t mention anything. You shouldn’t worry about such minor Church ceremonies.”
“You’re right.”
At that moment, inside a speeding carriage half a street away from the Church of Heavenly Justice, Lynn slowly released the Liars’ Devourer ability.
After reaching the Second Stage, he could now influence intermediate Transcendents to a certain degree, making them firmly believe in his lies.
For instance, distorting their perception of time.
Of course, that was also because Mozell and the others held high positions and had never really cared for such a small ceremony, so they didn’t even remember the date.
A slight twist was all it took to make them fully believe what Lynn said.
Gazing out at the street scene through the carriage window, Lynn said nothing.
What he desired from the beginning was never money, but to shatter the faith in the hearts of the people.
All was ready, just waiting for the wind to change.
(P.S.: There’s still one more chapter of three thousand words coming up, which will connect with the return of the princess and conclude this storyline. Please support with your votes!!!)
