Chapter 771

Chapter 771: We Still Do Not Know the Depths of Those We Saw That Day

In the eastern sky, Professor Shylph stood firmly in the air, like a stabilizing anchor.

In the western sky, the professors (maids) faced off against a total of six demons.

At this point, Alastair Aldridge’s plot could already be considered a failure.

Professor Shylph’s forceful intrusion not only divided the battlefield but also created a significant distance between it and the carriage.

Although it possessed some abilities of the Abyss Worm Demon and could perform long-range teleportation by activating a wormhole, such skills… naturally had cooldowns.

Now, in order to continue achieving their goals, they had perhaps no choice but to confront directly!

Alastair Aldridge stepped back slightly, clutching his stomach, which had been pierced through by a drilling gust. It was now in the process of healing.

But under normal circumstances, he wouldn’t back down even if he had a hole drilled in his belly, let alone losing a heart.

Now, he merely wanted to make Lich Ian Tukler and Demon Man Vernon aware of one another.

Alastair Aldridge had indeed been watching the efforts — or rather, the lack thereof — of his subordinates.

To be precise, every demon aside from Demon Man Vernon had their own thoughts.

Although everyone spoke of “reviving the demon race,” the more they understood this era, the more they realized the emptiness and powerlessness of that slogan.

When demons were no longer the strongest race in the world, when the Demon King was no longer the strongest being in the world, how could a demon society that maintained order through violence and determined hierarchy by bloodlines persist?

Moreover, what exactly was the Demon King’s reliance for reviving the demon race?

Was it simply the ability to breed those special demons that had been wiped out in past wars?

But were not those demons defeated in war?

Whenever he thought of this, the demons like Necro-Sewer Demon Rororo couldn’t help but wonder:

Indeed, living is more important after all.

Alastair Aldridge knew why this awkward situation had arisen.

Because that batch which was truly loyal to him, willing to sacrifice for the great revival of the demon race, had been wiped out in the Church of the Saints’ execution ritual earlier in the year!

Thus, the current group of demons, including the former elder Lich, lacked a sense of loyalty.

Only the not-so-bright Demon Man Vernon had remained relatively obedient all along.

However, high loyalty had its uses, and low loyalty had its own utility.

As long as they were cornered on X Mountain, they naturally had to carry out his wishes!

Just like now, as long as that old lich was kicked out to the front, he would have to fight with that Wind Element Lord with all his might!

“Ancient Magic Staff: Ghost’s Eye?” Professor Shylph, upon seeing the enemy, immediately pointed out the source of the magic wand in Lich Ian Tukler’s hand, “If I remember correctly, this staff should have been held by the Guardian of the Valley of Death. Is he dead now?”

Lich Ian Tukler tightened his grip, responding solemnly: “It seems you’re not so young yourself? That old coot from the Valley of Death died decades ago. I bought this wand from a grave robber.”

Professor Shylph shook her head, saying, “Regardless, it’s in your hands now. I just wanted to say, it’s of no use to me.”

Ian Tukler froze for a moment, abruptly tilting Ghost’s Eye; the eye at the tip of the staff instantly stared at Professor Shylph, and the staff’s power began to activate, invisible force compressing towards her from all directions.

However, this powerful force that could temporarily immobilize the Blood Source Sword Saint proved utterly ineffective against Professor Shylph.

Professor Shylph shrugged, saying, “Ghost’s Eye is a ghost-type magic staff. When infused with mana, it can bind souls and discern illusions. But as long as the strength of the soul exceeds twice that of the user, it is completely immune to any immobilization effects.”

“The strength of the soul exceeds twice that of the user…” Ian Tukler slowly repeated her words, the face hidden beneath the mask suddenly contorted with rage, “Are you saying your soul strength is twice mine? I’m a lich who has lived for hundreds of years!”

Professor Shylph replied, “You’re just a wilting candle in the wind.”

“DIE!” Ian Tukler exploded with fury, channeling all his mana into Ghost’s Eye, determined to unleash his most prized instant death curse!

As the enormous character for “death” materialized at the staff’s tip, Professor Shylph remained unfazed.

The essence of a Lich resides in transforming its most basic vessel from flesh to soul; both body and consciousness are borne upon the soul, cutting off portions of it that record complete memories and storing them in the life box.

Thus, even if the physical body dies, parts within the life box can rapidly develop into a new entity.

Therefore, a Lich’s body does not decay, nor does its consciousness vanish; its longevity depends on the soul rather than the physical body.

Thus, every Lich refines their soul’s strength as part of their daily routine.

That Professor Shylph brazenly claimed her soul strength was more than double his struck deep at his core, akin to outright insulting him as something less than an ant!

Though Ian Tukler had perished thirty-two times during the end of the war, his pride was still quite high, which was typical of most ancient demons.

Yet more humiliating still, Professor Shylph did not exaggerate; her soul strength indeed surpassed Ian’s by more than double!

This only made Ian Tukler angrier.

In such circumstances, the only way to quell that burning resentment would be to curse her to death!

However, Professor Shylph continued shaking her head, saying, “The death curse is a sort of instant death magic, but it has strict requirements for its target. It cannot affect beings that cannot die.”

Ian Tukler: “???”

Professor Shylph patiently explained, “Have you ever seen the tomb of the Elemental Lord?”

Just then, a gust of wind swept past Ian Tukler’s neck, sharp as a blade.

In an instant, his grand head soared into the sky without warning.

The murky blood unique to Liches gushed forth immediately.

Ian Tukler’s eyes bulged wide open, his vision rapidly elevating, but he did not die.

For a Lich, having their heart ripped out or their head severed was not a lethal blow in and of itself.

In fact, as long as he wished, his primary consciousness could instantly transfer to the body below his neck, letting his limbs move — and that was precisely what he did.

As his neck was enveloped in a layer of mana, the blood ceased to flow, and a blurry head began to emerge from his neck, inflating like a balloon, gradually revealing facial details.

Professor Shylph stepped forward without a trace of surprise, the Wind Element Lord Shylph, with thin wings behind her, floated slightly above her.

No gestures were made, yet winds from all directions suddenly surged in.

Lich Ian Tukler’s body abruptly disintegrated into pieces, leaving Demon Man Vernon on the other side trembling in fear.

Yet the Lich still did not die; its soul completely escaped from its shattered remains, clutching the plummeting Ghost’s Eye staff.

Professor Shylph’s voice continued to ring out flatly: “It seems you do not understand another function of Ghost’s Eye.”

She did not wait for Ian Tukler to respond, continuing, “It is actually a staff that requires binding a soul to truly exert its power.”

Ian Tukler’s expression changed drastically, its soul outline shuddering violently.

Then, suddenly, it released its grip on Ghost’s Eye like it was a poisonous substance, its entire soul rapidly retreating.

But during its retreat, it saw the wind wrap around the Ghost’s Eye staff, which was about to fall, pulling it into the hands of the terrifying half-elf, who pointed the eyeball on its fingertip at him.

In that moment, Ian Tukler felt an unprecedented intense sense of crisis arise.

It was a feeling that had never surfaced even when all thirty-two of its life boxes were destroyed.

At that moment, it instinctively realized that Professor Shylph’s words were not empty; Ghost’s Eye would surely bind its soul, permanently imprisoning it within the staff’s eyeball as a slave!

In this critical moment of life and death, the old Lich made what it would later consider a profoundly correct decision.

Before the astonished gazes of Demon Man Vernon, Demon King Alastair Aldridge, and the Blood Source Sword Saint, it self-destructed its own soul!

“BOOM!”

Lich Ian Tukler’s soul exploded into a firework in the sky after just a few minutes of direct confrontation.

“Ah!”

Then, in one of its life boxes, it jolted awake from a nightmare, shooting upright and shivering all over.

Thus, only two demons remained in the eastern sky.

The entire area was silent, with only the sound of thunder in the Wormhole Sea echoing as background noise.

The muscular Demon Man felt a chill, and he was unexpectedly overcome with a sense of weakness in his knees.

Alastair Aldridge, however, showed no signs of fear; he was merely astonished that Professor Shylph could cause that old Lich to self-destruct with just a few words.

Having coexisted with the old Lich for several months, he naturally knew how cunning it was.

Yet he hadn’t expected such a sly Lich to self-destruct, having done almost nothing.

Was it because what Professor Shylph said… was all true?

It certainly was all true.

Professor Shylph held Ghost’s Eye, sighed slightly, and said, “Too bad it wasn’t the wind attribute one.”

Ghost’s Eye could indeed bind souls, but she did not know the incantation for binding souls; that was all.

Lich Ian Tukler’s inability to penetrate the issues within was simply due to a pre-existing fear.

Before someone with soul strength over double their own, it truly was like an ant — that was generally the universal perspective of this species of Lich.

Professor Shylph then raised Ghost’s Eye slightly, pointing it at Demon Man Vernon Illectra.

The latter’s muscles tightened in that instant, red magical light flaring on his body, exploding outward!

Demon Man was a relatively rare higher-tier demon who was not well-versed in magic.

But this did not mean Demon Man had little magical power.

In fact, Demon Man’s magic was just as vast as that of most demons; the only difference lay in how it was used.

Their muscles could absorb magical power, fusing muscle with mana to form special Magic Tendons, granting them explosive force far beyond that of same-tier demons, whether in strength or speed.

Demon King Alastair Aldridge’s strength was derived from these Magic Tendons as well.

Due to being predominantly muscle-brained, Demon Man often first considered solving problems with muscle power.

Thus, his method of handling Ghost’s Eye was very straightforward — simply run out of the immobilization range before the binding magic could take effect, and he naturally wouldn’t be trapped!

The red magical light enveloping him pushed his muscles to their limits while also granting him mobility in the air.

In that instant, Demon Man Vernon not only sprinted out of the immobilization range but also vanished completely from Professor Shylph’s sight.

His figure was incredibly fast, his claws stretched out, nails sharp, and the sound of his rush was left behind him.

When he charged beside Professor Shylph, the sound suddenly intensified, and the sharp claws slashed toward Professor Shylph’s throat like lightning.

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth!

He aimed to sever Shylph’s head with this strike!

But what his fingers could touch was merely the intangible wind!

Professor Shylph’s body vanished without a trace in that instant, leaving only a shadow.

Just like during the time she was struck by lightning, she perfectly avoided all harm.

As his right-hand strike missed, a warning rang in Demon Man Vernon’s mind, but as he attempted to retract his right hand, shackles suddenly appeared on his wrist — unable to escape!

The Wind Element Lord Shylph looked down, her face almost identical to Professor Shylph’s faintly showing a hint of mockery.

As she moved her fingers slightly, countless chains from the wind shackles suddenly shot out, lunging toward his entire body!

Once bound by these chains, even a Demon Man wouldn’t be able to break free.

Just at that moment, thunder crashed like a blade, suddenly striking down!

Professor Shylph and the Wind Element Lord Shylph swiftly shifted sideways, evading the sudden thunder strike.

Yet the wind chains released by the Wind Element Lord were entirely severed.

Thus, the escaping Demon Man’s face revealed a ferocious expression, dramatically refusing to back down.

would have engaged in this fight.

However, as the battle unfolded, she quickly realized that she underestimated her opponent. The newly evolved Dark Demon, now standing as the Night Tiger God, exhibited an astounding power that far surpassed her expectations. The weapon he summoned only amplified that strength further, making her reconsider her initial strategy.

Instead of merely playing for time, she felt a surge of instinct urging her to fight back. The thrill of the fight, combined with the danger that an unstoppable enemy posed, ignited her determination. Perhaps it was the adrenaline, or maybe some deeper instinct within her bloodline, but she began to feel alive in a way she hadn’t in ages.

With her decisions spiraling, she decided to unleash her true capabilities rather than merely pretending to evade. The thought that she might have to fight for her life gave her a taste of exhilaration she hadn’t experienced for a long time.

Thus, the battle between her and the Night Tiger God wasn’t just about survival; it was about unleashing a hidden potential, rediscovering what it meant to be a Vlad, and proving herself worthy of her lineage.

At that moment, Na’ral Vlad transformed from the noble vampire maiden into a fierce warrior, ready to confront her adversary with a spirit she never knew she possessed.

Dark, who was extremely close to the enemy, pushed forward step by step. After more than ten rings of light, he had already been pushed back over ten meters.

He did not wait for the opponent to unleash their ultimate move; in that moment, he unhesitatingly activated the 【Moon Tiger God Descent】!

“Roar!”

The magic power of the 【Night Tiger God】 instantly decreased by one-tenth, and the vanished magic power coalesced and transformed above its head.

The divinity beast, a silver-white creature—【Moon Tiger】—finally manifested under the moonlight.

Although summoning the 【Moon Tiger】 was not the optimal timing, Naralee’s currently awakened power was simply too overwhelming.

With the duration of 【Moon Goddess Mirror Reflection】 reaching its limit, Dark decided not to keep any more tricks up his sleeve, and he had more than one ace anyways.

The 【Moon Tiger】 traversed through the air, its massive form overshadowing everything.

The dark clouds in the sky naturally dispersed, and the moonlight poured down.

A long tiger roar reverberated through the night sky, making the 【Tower Demon】, who had just been puzzled about why Naralee activated the 【True Ancestor’s Blood】, change color in astonishment.

It watched as the blood continuously accumulated around Naralee, saw the 【Moon Tiger】 open its giant blood-filled maw, and a warning bell rang in its heart. Almost immediately, it reacted by summoning massive stone blocks to stack into a wall before it.

With a sudden turn, it quickly retreated backward—but as it turned, it then witnessed the fierce battle between the 【Angel】 and the 【Fallen Angel】. The residual energy from the clash filled it with dread.

In a panic, it flailed for a way out, but its mind, rarely used, finally sparked with a saving idea at this crucial moment.

In its state of “desperation,” the 【Tower Demon】 Arta flipped its body, head pointing down, and shot towards the ground.

Clearly, the safest place was below!

The height of the sky was no longer desirable!

……

The departure of the 【Tower Demon】 Arta only attracted a few glances from Olivia, Angrey, and Eve.

However, the dangerous battle situation involving Dark immediately absorbed all of their attention.

After activating the 【True Ancestor’s Blood】, Naralee’s originally dense blood-red hair appeared to be coated with another layer of blood paint, turning into a dark red that was ominously deep, yet there was a layer of red light shimmering over its surface.

Her figure also grew taller in an instant.

Blood shadows extended from the corners of her eyes, and her fangs became even sharper.

The blood light in her eyes carried an additional measure of primal killing intent.

A torrent of blood gathered around her, forming a dark red gown that exposed half of her chest.

Naralee’s breath changed, akin to Olivia armed up; the difference was as vast as heaven and earth.

As her aura was just about to take shape, the roar of the 【Moon Tiger】 was released, accompanied by a howling sound.

At the same moment, the 【Night Tiger God】 opened its mouth beneath the 【Moon Tiger】.

Then, both the 【Moon Tiger】 and the 【Night Tiger God】 simultaneously unleashed tiger-shaped shockwaves nearly the same size as their own forms!

These two shockwaves, radiating a terrifying aura, struck the awakening 【Vampire】 Naralee at the same time.

The expanding blood-red glow dissipated without a trace.

The blood tide rolling around her could not block the attacks from the two 【Moon Tiger Roars】.

In that instant, Naralee’s entire being was swallowed by the 【Moon Tiger Roar】.

For that brief moment, it seemed as if Naralee had vanished from existence.

Yet after the roar, Naralee’s aura did not disappear.

Whether it was Dark Demon or Olivia and the others outside, they couldn’t help but focus in that moment.

All that was left where Naralee originally stood was a swirling mass of blood.

The surface of that blood bubbled like boiling water, yet it emitted a chilling aura.

Deep black magic energy coiled around it, with golden liquid flowing within. Mysterious incantations rolled within the blood, revealing a glimpse of endless mysteries.

The body of the 【Vampire】 Naralee was revitalizing.

……

“Still alive…”

Olivia’s fingertip rested on the surface of the 【Golden Armor Aries】 card, her brow furrowed like a mountain range.

The battle that had just escalated a little while ago was filled with the unexpected at every turn.

The nine black-robed demons under the command of 【Demon King No. 2】 Alastair Aldridge, including the already deceased 【Mud Nightmare Demon】, were far from ordinary demons.

In fact, there were two who were extremely suspect in their origins.

The 【Necro-Sewer Demon】 Rororo was an alchemical creature—who was the alchemist capable of creating such a being?

The 【Winged Demon】 Dorothy was a 【One-Winged Fallen Angel】, but in a world where angels no longer existed, where did this fallen angel come from?

If one were to find a few normal demons among them, it would probably be the exploded 【Lich】 Ian Tattal, and the 【Demon Man】 Vernon and 【Tower Demon】 Arta.

Even the remote 【Beast Demon】 Tonja was clearly not a simple character.

The 【Dead Marsh Lizard】 Paul, who was fiercely battling with Montiel Farley, would occasionally let out some pure draconic breath.

If their speculation was correct, he was likely hiding his stance as a 【Dragon】 under the guise of a 【Lizard Demon】!

However, 【Dragons】 were pureblood giants that mutated after being demonized; they were crazed and bloodthirsty, not one to appear as calm and composed as this 【Dead Marsh Lizard】.

So many variables, the trajectory of fate was incredibly chaotic.

Professor Metia stood at the front, desperately assessing, yet could not unravel the direction of destiny.

But she still realized that the current situation was purely because this group from Saint Maryann Academy was simply too powerful!

When the strong face the weak, they can control the whole battlefield, conceal their true abilities as they wish, and maneuver as they please.

However, once it becomes a clash of the strong, they become engulfed.

On one side were humans, and on the other were demons, who could never trust each other to hold back. Thus, once the battle commenced, it became a thunderous clash!

“Boom!”

The 【Boundary Breaking Thunder Sea】 had not yet dissipated.

The solid hand of Alastair Aldridge, charged and ready to strike, was momentarily blocked by Professor Shylph using a magic spell card—【Spear Formation Trap】.

Yet at that moment, Professor Shylph disappeared along with the 【Wind Element Lord Shylph】, leaving no trace behind.

But that was just the perspective held by Alastair Aldridge.

Professor Shylph and the 【Wind Element Lord Shylph】 had simultaneously transformed into wind, perfectly merging with nature as if achieving “oneness with heaven and man” from the realm of cultivation.

Endless killing intent hidden within the flow of natural winds at that moment.

Alastair Aldridge slowly moved his gaze around, realizing he could no longer sense Professor Shylph’s exact presence.

Unbeknownst to him, the 【Demon Man】 Vernon, who had just escaped the brink of death, suddenly stopped upon spotting his target, with red demonic light continuously radiating outward from his body.

With his intention to control, part of the demonic light flowed along his skin to his singular horn atop his head—this horn, while occasionally used as a weapon, primarily served as an antenna to sense the flow of aura, making it exceedingly responsive.

The 【Demon Man】 was able to quickly react to attacks from all angles due to the horn on his head.

But even with that horn glowing as if it was being baked, it could not detect any trace.

“Damn it! She escaped!”

The not-so-bright 【Demon Man】 Vernon said venomously.

At that moment, Alastair Aldridge instantly teleported above the 【Demon Man】, and a massive black hand stood tall like a monument, almost touching the back of the 【Demon Man】 as it swiftly struck down!

“Whoosh—”

A gust of wind leaked at that instant.

The wind, once again, scattered.

The 【Demon Man】 Vernon jumped forth in horror, turning to look at the Demon King in confusion.

Alastair Aldridge still frowned, the pupils in his eyes continuously switching to various styles, various demon eye techniques activated, yet Professor Shylph and the 【Wind Element Lord Shylph】’s presence vanished again after that fleeting hint of aura faded.

He pondered slightly, speaking into the void, “In this state, how long can you maintain? One minute? Two minutes? Can you exceed three minutes?”

There was no response, only the natural flow of night wind.

Alastair Aldridge settled his mind, clasped his hands together, magic energy swirling, attempting to induce the flow of aura.

After a moment, he released an electric current from the horn atop his head, quickly expanding outwards, setting up a thunderous stance.

But Professor Shylph and the 【Wind Element Lord Shylph】 never reappeared.

Until after 120 seconds.

The head of the 【Demon Man】 Vernon silently slid down from his neck.

When the distance between the two sides of his neck exceeded a finger’s width, the 【Demon Man】 suddenly realized, quickly raising his hands to catch his sliding head.

But soon after, his left hand and right hand, just above the wrists, each bore a wound.

The cuts were smooth, blood flowing out easily from the wounds, causing his hands to slip down faster.

And naturally, the head held by his hands continued to slide down swiftly.

The 【Demon Man】 opened his mouth, the muscles in his face bulging. Between his eyes and mouth, across the bridge of his nose, the absolute horizontal position was disturbed, the upper part and the lower part began to part ways.

His head was inadvertently severed into two.

“Puff!”

The aura of the 【Demon】 completely collapsed.

Blood erupted from every incision on his body.

His entire form disassembled on the spot.

Pieces fell, descending straight downwards.

Suddenly, a strong wind appeared, sweeping up his corpse to prevent it from disturbing the townsfolk looking up below.

Under this night sky, there were no demons left, except for Alastair Aldridge.

……

Meanwhile, Professor Shylph finally appeared, now standing beside the 【Blood Source Sword Saint】.

The magic energy of the 【Blood Source Sword Saint】 had already run out, relying solely on the remote transfer from Ophelia Brad.

However, the remote transfer, mediated by a magic spell card, was very gradual, like a stream with a limited riverbed, only capable of sustaining the existence of the golem, and difficult to quickly replenish its consumption.

The distance from Ophelia was indeed too far.

But as Professor Shylph quietly appeared, she took out a magic spell card to replenish magical energy.

“You’re Ophelia’s golem?” She whispered, her gaze falling on the 【Holy Sword Spell】 of the 【Blood Source Sword Saint】.

Sensing the pure magic flowing into him, the slightly weakened aura gradually rose, and at that moment, he nodded in response.

Professor Shylph confirmed the 【Blood Holy Sword】 he held once more, then softly said, “Next, I need your assistance.”

The 【Blood Source Sword Saint】 understood and smiled brightly, “It’s my honor.”

Alastair Aldridge suddenly felt an immense threat!

……

War is like this; even the powerful can become insignificant in the thick of battle.

The 【Lich】 Ian Tattal was undeniably strong, yet in a single encounter, his soul shattered in terror; even the semi-divine artifact, the 【Ghostly Eye】, was too dangerous to carry away.

The 【Demon Man】 Vernon was also undeniably strong, yet in this battle, he became a burden. When Alastair Aldridge became too preoccupied to pay him any mind, he quietly perished.

The remaining black-robed demons did not want to meet such a meaningless demise, so they kept hiding their true abilities and floating along.

But apart from the unnoticed escape of the 【Tower Demon】 Arta, the others had sunk deep into peril.

Yet in that perilous realm, fortunately, there was no mire.

Even across a great distance, even with the 【Boundary Breaking Thunder Sea】 as a barrier, and even amidst the fierce battle.

Even the 【Vampire】 Naralee Vlad, who had just been revived from the blood, sensed the death of the 【Demon Man】 Vernon.

First was the death of the 【Mud Nightmare Demon】, then the death of the 【Lich】 Ian, and now it was the turn of the 【Demon Man】 Vernon; who would fall next?

When the 【Mud Nightmare Demon】 died, they hadn’t paid much notice since it was already on the brink of death.

When the 【Lich】 died, they also didn’t pay much attention because the Lich had a life box.

But when a 【Demon】 is dead, it is truly dead.

In an instant, the minds of the remaining five black-robed demons recalled the cruelty of the battlefield.

Among them, Naralee, who had just activated the 【True Ancestor’s Blood】, stood right at the edge of death.

The fury that had just boiled in her mind swiftly ebbed away, like a waterfall flowing downwards.

What kind of retribution would Alastair Aldridge impose come autumn?

What endless pursuit awaited after her identity was revealed?

If she died now, what future would she have?

The primal aura of the 【True Ancestor】 had just surged into the clouds, dyeing the night sky a chilling red.

Revealing immeasurable power, Naralee exploded in that moment, countless bats fleeing violently against the still profound night.

I’m not playing along anymore!
