“I’ll peel off your scales and make a wallet out of them!”
“These fairy brats who don’t even know how to fight with their own strength have some big dreams!”
The strategy to drag all the races gathered here into the calamity of Nidhogg and an extreme battle of attrition, thanks to Nidhogg’s full cooperation, achieved a beautifully perfect result.
“Ahhh! My ear! My ear!”
“Kyahaaak…!”
Even the weakest among them were at the level of masters, and there were more than a few who rivaled heroic knights. The mixed races, which we couldn’t possibly handle on our own, were rapidly dwindling as they killed each other.
The sight of the fairies, who had come to kill us, being torn apart by the rampaging Evil Faction Dragonkin was truly satisfying. If Lacey had been here, she might have shed tears and given a standing ovation.
“Kieeeek! Stop! Stooop!”
A Dragonkin who stabbed a spear into Nidhogg’s carapace was grabbed by the arms wrapped around Nidhogg’s abdomen and torn apart.
– Crunch!
A fairy patrol aiming a bow at Nigel had the upper half of his face bitten off by a Dragonkin that pounced from behind.
“Ah, gahk…”
The patrol collapsed with a single groan, tongue sticking out.
“Rimeiramor-!”
Enraged by her death, a male patrol’s Spirit Arrow pierced the eye of the Dragonkin spitting out the fairy’s brain, exploding inside.
– Pwoosh!
The Dragonkin’s head burst like a watermelon, flesh and bone fragments blooming like roses.
“Krrrruk!”
Though the precise shot blew off the Dragonkin’s head, the patrol, distracted by vengeance, left an opening. Black hands grabbed his ankle.
“Damn it…!”
Skeleton specters summoned by the Soul Extraction Technique tripped the patrol and stabbed him repeatedly with rusty swords.
“Ahhh! Ugh! Gyaaaah!”
A fountain of blood. As the fairy screamed in agony, a thick lightning bolt struck down, burning both the fairy and the specters indiscriminately.
The strong, who would have shown overwhelming prowess if they had fought with proper formations and tactics, died so easily and meaninglessly in the chaos of this battle.
For us—or rather, for Damien and his group—this was an ideal situation. To anyone watching, the fairies and Dragonkin were far more threatening forces. Both races were too busy fighting each other to pay attention to humans.
Only the two Fairy Guardians, who had directly received orders to kill Damien’s group, were attacking as commanded.
There might have been one more Guardian, but… it seemed someone had taken care of them, as they disappeared at some point.
What was their name again? Pailandria?
Damien didn’t take them down, so maybe they were killed by a winged Dragonkin… I don’t know. I don’t have the luxury to worry about that right now.
The situation wasn’t calm enough for me to keep watching the battlefield.
“Median-!”
Two Fairy Guardians charging at me with faces twisted as if I were their parents’ murderer.
【Goaaaaaraaaah!】
Nidhogg, roaring with the fury of an orphan who found their parents’ killer.
“I won’t forgive you!”
Beherikes, stabbing with a spear, his lizard-like face twisted in rage.
“This muddy chaos is hardly elegant.”
Even another Dragonkin, who seemed to find this more entertaining, stopped fighting the fairies and joined in.
With four heroic-level fighters and even an Insect-Dragon that could easily crush lesser heroes, all the core forces of this battlefield were now targeting me.
—
“Are they insane? Why are they all after me?”
I accelerated, pulling more from my nearly half-depleted Life Force Technique, dodging the countless beams of light aimed at me while grumbling.
[Put your hand on your chest… no, don’t, but think about it. You heartless wench.]
“Hmm, I don’t know? I’m a person who’s basically a corpse without a conscience!”
[A corpse that talks.]
Hersela, as always, spouted baseless slander. With her barbaric mindset, she couldn’t distinguish between strategic judgment and shameless cowardice.
When I do it, it’s strategy. When others do it, it’s cowardly tricks. Why can’t she understand such a simple truth? With all that wolf blood, is her brain really at the level of a dog’s?
【Khaaaaaak!】
Well, regardless, I didn’t have the luxury to argue with her. Instead of retorting, I flew around, fighting off five pursuers.
“Control your Insect-Dragons properly!”
“You crazy bitch!”
I deflected Ereneisia’s sword, twisted her face, and swung my fist.
“Die-!”
Ereneisia blocked with her rock prosthetic arm. The clash between dwarf metal and fairy spirit prosthetics created a deafening explosion.
Of course, I won the fistfight.
“Can a rock block steel?!”
And not just any steel, but black iron several times stronger.
“Kyaaaah-!”
Ereneisia screamed as her rock arm shattered, falling to the ground.
She managed to kick my stomach and create distance, avoiding having her head frozen and shattered by my Ice Blade… but her pretty face was now a bloody mess from the rock fragments.
“Khaaaah!”
“You monster!”
【Kyaooo-!】
As soon as I knocked Ereneisia away, new enemies charged at me.
From the left, Beherikes thrust a lightning-charged spear.
From the right, a giant eagle-shaped Fire Spirit cloaked in flames charged.
From below, Nidhogg opened its jaws wide.
Beherikes’ lightning bolts spread like a net, and Tersillius’ five fire arrows arced toward me.
Nidhogg’s magic circles spewed black hands again, and Ereneisia’s summoned flame giant descended from above, slashing down with a fiery sword.
“This is insane, absolutely insane!”
Attacks capable of turning a small city to ruins in an instant were all aimed at me. I couldn’t dodge them all just by flying.
…Well, not that I needed to.
【Reversed Heaven】
The world turned monochrome. The rapid attacks slowed to the speed of bugs crawling on a riverbed.
In my soundless world, I grabbed Beherikes’ wrist and shoved him toward Tersillius, then flew between Nidhogg and the flame giant to escape their attacks before releasing Reversed Heaven.
“Kheut?!”
Beherikes, who had been thrusting his spear at me, now faced a flaming wind spirit and a Fairy Guardian, coughing in shock.
“Damn it…!”
Tersillius, equally flustered, hastily drew his sword to block Beherikes’ spear.
“Kheuk!”
“Kuuuaaah!”
The Dragonkin screamed as the fairy’s sword pierced his wing, and the fairy screamed as lightning from the spear shocked him.
“Gruooooh!”
The Fire Spirit, descending with its fiery sword, missed me and instead cleaved Nidhogg’s head.
– Kwaaaang!
The dragon’s head caved in, spewing smoke like burning clouds.
【Kyhaaaaaaaaak!】
Enraged by the heat cooking its skull, the Insect-Dragon slapped the Fire Spirit’s torso with its foreleg and bit off its head. The headless Fire Spirit flailed as it crashed to the ground.
– Kwa-gwa-gwa-gwa-gwang!
The lightning bolts, Spirit Arrows, and black hands collided, creating an ear-splitting explosion.
The rain of destruction that could have leveled a city canceled each other out, shattering meaninglessly.
Though the taunts worked too well, and the strong enemies started targeting only me, their attacks were so powerful and wide-ranging that it wasn’t hard to evade.
By subtly dodging and redirecting, they ended up hitting each other.
Nidhogg and the high-level spirits, being so massive, swept up others with their attacks, inadvertently helping me.
Using Reversed Heaven to evade was draining my energy, but… well, they were burning through their power just as fast.
“Who are you aiming at, idiots!”
So, I used Reversed Heaven sparingly, dodging only the most dangerous attacks, and focused on making their attacks miss and hit each other instead.
The chaotic battle on the ground intensified until only a handful remained, the rest dead.
