Chapter 38: The Silent Avenger
“Huff huff, haa… umph~!”
In the girls’ dormitory room, on the bed by the window, a blonde busty girl woke up from her slumber and stretched vigorously.
With that stretch, an audible strain came from the neckline of her pajamas. A few more of those, and the seams would surely rip apart.
“Must you make that sound every time?” Bai Ling remarked from beside her, “You do it every morning.”
It got her seven stars entertained.
“Stretching will naturally make noise,” Yuan Xiaoling said matter-of-factly, “If there’s no sound, it doesn’t feel satisfying. Everyone makes noise when they stretch; it’s just a matter of how loud.”
Bai Ling’s lips twitched slightly, “Not everyone sounds as lewd as you.”
“That’s your problem. Lewdness is subjective,” Yuan Xiaoling stated confidently, “As the saying goes, if one harbors lust in their heart, everything they see will seem lewd…”
“Next time you make that sound, I’ll have my way with you,” Bai Ling said calmly, “Consider it morning exercise.”
“…I’ll be more careful next time.”
Lingling wasn’t being cowardly. She believed that the morning sets the tone for the day. If she caused Bai Ling to tire out in the morning, it would affect her ability to perform at her best throughout the day.
Yes, Lingling was doing this for Bai Ling’s well-being.
“So, when are we leaving?” Yuan Xiaoling asked.
“No rush,” Bai Ling glanced at the time on her mobile phone, “Let’s eat breakfast first before heading out.”
Yuan Xiaoling blinked in surprise, “Doesn’t he provide meals?”
“Maybe yes, maybe no, but here’s the thing,” Bai Ling shot her a look, “The gaming department supervisor can slip drugs into drinks, do you think the chairman of the main company will serve healthy, non-toxic food?”
“…Then let’s eat breakfast first.”
After having breakfast at the school cafeteria, Bai Ling went through the usual routine of borrowing the academic advisor’s car. Yuan Xiaoling waited at the school gate, passing the time by fiddling with her mobile phone.
Just as she logged into QQ, a new message popped up.
[Locked Love Blaze: Thank you, Yuan Xiaoling, and Bai Ling.]
Yuan Xiaoling blinked several times, not understanding immediately. How did Uncle He know about Bai Ling, and what did he mean by thanking us…
The words Bai Ling had spoken last night surfaced in her mind, along with the information from the documents, flashing through the young girl’s thoughts like lightning.
[Lingling: Uncle He, are you there? I have something I want to ask you. I heard that ten years ago, some workers had disputes with Yunhai Factory. Do you know anything about this?]
She originally wanted to directly ask if he intended to take revenge on Yunhai Company, but decided to phrase it more tactfully.
A few minutes later, Uncle He’s avatar lit up.
[Locked Love Blaze: Yuan Xiaoling, I once told you that the beast in people’s hearts is a shark, do you remember?]
Uncle He didn’t answer her question directly, even speaking somewhat cryptically, but Yuan Xiaoling knew his reaction basically confirmed it.
[Locked Love Blaze: Let me tell you a story about sharks. Continue with your business, and if you’re bored, read it for fun.]
The car arrived, Bai Ling rolled down the window and beckoned her, “Get in, let’s go.”
Yuan Xiaoling sat in the passenger seat and quickly informed Bai Ling, “The guy I mentioned yesterday messaged me. He might really be planning to take revenge on Yunhai Company, and he also thanked us or something. What do you think…?”
“No need to check,” Bai Ling helped her fasten the seatbelt, “We still have a journey ahead.”
Pulling the seatbelt across the blonde maiden’s Dabeitu, her hands weren’t exactly clean.
Yuan Xiaoling glared at her, implying that this wasn’t the time to be acting perverted.
“But if something happens on his side, or at Tianhai Tower…”
“Then it’s all the more reason for us to go,” Bai Ling started the car, “Have you ever thought about why he contacted you now? It’s because this is the only time he has a chance to act.”
Yuan Xiaoling blinked blankly, “What do you mean?”
“Tianhai Tower usually has hundreds of spiritual energy manipulators, including a few fourth-tier ones. But today, to deal with me, how many do you think they’ve allocated?”
Bai Ling set the phone to navigation mode and placed it gently ahead.
“Whether intentional or not, we’ve been indirectly utilized by him. But it doesn’t matter since our goals likely align to a great extent.”
It took Yuan Xiaoling quite a while to comprehend it all. Seeing how calm Bai Ling was, she was surprised, “So you figured it out last night?”
Figured out Uncle He’s plan.
Bai Ling didn’t deny it, merely saying quietly, “He was part of the group of workers involved in the factory incident back then, meaning he left the factory ten years ago. Tianhai Tower was built the following year. For safety reasons, the maintenance workers responsible for daily upkeep were always chosen from the earliest batch… meaning he’s been there since the year the tower was completed.”
Yuan Xiaoling seemed to grasp something, shocked beyond words.
“A single man without a family, entering the building at age 28, working as a maintenance worker for nine years,” Bai Ling continued slowly, “Spending the prime years of his life alone and silently filled with hatred in that place, what do you think he wants to do?”
……
Hearing the alarm, foreman Old Wang hurried upstairs, sweating profusely.
“How could the fire system malfunction? We installed new equipment last month. Old He~ Old He!”
He Shiyong was still holding a cigarette, walking over slowly.
“Stop smoking! There’s a problem with our fire equipment here. What’s going on? Didn’t your team install it last month?” Foreman Old Wang said.
“Don’t bother fixing it, Brother Wang,” He Shiyong looked straight into his eyes and spoke solemnly, “Broadcast a message over the building speakers. Say there’s a fire risk today, please evacuate the building.”
“Why say that? Just because the fire equipment has issues, does that mean we have to evacuate the entire building?” Old Wang was confused, “Besides, the upper floors won’t listen to me anyway.”
The higher-ups worked for the chamber of commerce bosses and considered themselves superior.
“No worries, just broadcast it as instructed,” He Shiyong said.
Old Wang was about to tell him to focus on his job and stop giving unnecessary orders, but suddenly noticed the cigarette in He Shiyong’s hand burning without fire, rapidly consuming itself in the air, distorting the light around it as if it too were about to catch fire.
Looking at the path He Shiyong had walked, a faint trail of scorched tiles marked the floor.
Old Wang swallowed hard, “Old He, what is this…?”
“Brother Wang, go ahead and broadcast it. I won’t harm you,” He Shiyong discarded the burnt-out cigarette, “Tell everyone to leave.”
Old Wang stumbled away, while He Shiyong squatted in the corner and pulled out his mobile phone to text his young online friend.
……
“Can he directly eliminate all the bosses in Tianhai Tower?” Yuan Xiaoling asked.
“Impossible, even I couldn’t do that,” Bai Ling scoffed, “The bosses have protection.”
In her previous life, when Tianhai Tower collapsed, only ordinary people and low-tier spiritual energy manipulators died. Few of the chamber of commerce bosses perished. However, strangely, after that incident, the chamber quickly declined, and external noble families entered, starting a chaotic battle for control over Tianhai City.
Bai Ling had always assumed it was a coincidence, that mad bomber Ray Sen blew up the tower to “accomplish something big,” and the chain reaction happened by chance. But now, it seemed everything was premeditated.
“Then how does he plan to destroy Yunhai Company, or even the Hai Tian Chamber of Commerce?” Yuan Xiaoling asked curiously.
This was also something Bai Ling wanted to know, but she didn’t want to admit her ignorance, so she said,
“Isn’t he preparing to send you a message right now? Just look at your phone.”
