Chapter 111: The Devastating Power Part 2
Rumble rumble rumble—
Above the dim gray sky, the sound of thunder roared, and the rolling black clouds were pierced by numerous condensed hot fire streams creating holes dozens of meters in diameter. Giant hellfire meteors emerged from these holes, plunging towards the wasteland with scorching winds and raging flames. The atmosphere seemed to have increased several times in pressure, and distant ruins collapsed suddenly. The knights riding on horned horses tumbled and fell amidst the flying dust!
“Aaaaahhh—”
“It’s a hellfire meteor!!”
“There’s no time to run…”
“Hold steady! Hold steady!”
“Onanastasi—!!!”
Voices shouted, horns screamed, and under the glow of the flames, the knight commander of Grace Scales had blood gushing from his mouth. His hair and eyebrows were singed and curled up by the shockwave. He held his longsword high, his face twisted in agony as he shouted desperately at the crowd. Immediately after, faint holy light began to flicker around.
One, two, three…
Those lights gradually converged into a single beam on the wasteland. People struggled to their feet, their robes disheveled, hands clasped in front of their chests. Golden light flowed from their upper bodies, radiating brilliantly towards the sky, merging with the divine lights of other knights and priests. In an instant, Onanastasi, the sin barrier, formed above them, shielding them from the blowing sand and heat waves.
In the next moment, the meteor fell.
Boom boom boom boom—
It was as if the entire sky was burning. The hurricane of flames generated red flames by friction, and the terrifying hellfire meteor suddenly descended from the black clouds. The wind pressure caused the earth to tremble, like a sun-like fireball that arrived in an instant. The knight commander raised his head, his longsword clattering to the ground. His widened eyes reflected a look of despair.
“This is it… it’s all over…”
Boom!!!!!!
The crimson meteor struck the barely opened golden barrier, causing a massive explosion akin to the end of the world. As the flames rose, the once unbreakable Onanastasi sin barrier shattered like an eggshell under the impact of the hellfire meteor, scattering into countless golden fragments. These fragments were quickly consumed by the flames, followed by the screams of countless people below.
The horrifying red hellfire licked and ravaged the wasteland, with exploding fireballs scattering everywhere, then falling one after another, turning the entire area into a sea of flames. Countless horned horses, priests, and knights, fleeing in panic and screaming, were instantly engulfed by the fiery waves.
The scorching heat burned their hair and skin, pain turning to numbness in an instant. Fear and the torment of being burned alive were non-existent; in just a moment, everyone was reduced to nothing but black ashes. Priest Laryx teleported out thirty meters away, but before he could turn to escape, he was consumed by the flames.
Rumble rumble rumble…
The hellfire continued to rage in the distance.
The powerful and fierce knight commander slowly closed his eyes.
He made no more resistance; there was no way to resist this calamity. Not even a spark of resistance remained as he allowed the incoming fire smoke to engulf him. His flesh turned to charcoal, his organs and bones burnt to ashes, disappearing in an instant like they never existed, swallowed by the lava-like red flames.
They were all dead.
The huge explosion spread like a poisonous wildfire across the wasteland, accompanied by an astonishing impact, expanding in all directions. Even the towering ice mountains in the distance, along with the stairs extending from them, collapsed with the impact.
Melted ice vaporized into thick white smoke. The scorching hurricane swept for kilometers, leveling vast ruins. A mushroom cloud of red and black rose from the center of the explosion, shaking the ground like an earthquake, completely flattening the town called Meissar.
After a long while.
As the shockwaves gradually subsided and the wasteland returned to silence, the land was already ablaze. Thick black smoke rose into the air, and the temperature had reached a level unbearable for ordinary humans. There was no sign of life on the scorched earth except for the petite figure of a girl, standing firm like a pine tree.
Crash crash crash…
She waved her hand, and the thick ice wall nearly ten meters tall in front of her collapsed abruptly. Fog enveloped the surrounding frost, blocking the searing heat of the wasteland. Cold air and heat waves intertwined, making the small area just right.
—The girl didn’t have to do this.
Neither the cold nor the hellfire could affect her body anymore. However, the swordsman lying behind her couldn’t say the same. She knew this well and precisely maintained the temperature around her, seemingly not wanting the weak and unconscious swordsman to suffer any more harm.
Yet, even so, when she turned back, she saw slight frost forming on the swordsman’s face, and his breathing became irregular.
She frowned again.
Soon, movement was heard again in the distance.
“Damn it…”
On the northern part of the wasteland, the hundreds of knights of Grace Scales who had been waiting outside the town and rushed over upon receiving the signal had just regained their senses from the explosion.
This was the second time today they had witnessed such a terrible disaster. This time, the destruction caused by the fire meteor was even more devastating than before, making it almost impossible to approach. It was hard to imagine what kind of terrifying enemy they were facing.
If Bishop Alesta hadn’t reacted in time and formed a huge sin barrier in front of the knights, they might have lost most of their elite forces before even seeing their enemy.
The location where the fire meteor landed was still a kilometer away.
“Cursed, cursed, cursed…”
The formation of the golden armored army was already in chaos. The town’s north side, which had been almost flattened, still saw scattered debris falling from the sky. Shouts and the hooves of horned horses echoed through the dust. Bishop Alesta nearly fell off his startled horned horse.
While shouting to stabilize the troops, “Don’t panic! Reorganize! Everything is still under control! No one is to act on their own. The warriors of Grace Scales fear nothing! Show your spirit and courage and continue to follow me forward—”
Although he said these words to calm the troops, Alesta himself was desperately wanting to escape. He understood that the hellfire meteor ahead was not something Carlos or anyone else could produce. Something even more terrifying had appeared during the time he had gathered the remaining knights.
That thing was perhaps far more frightening than any enemy he had faced before.
But with the family’s responsibilities weighing on him, if he fled in such a disgraceful manner, the punishment he would face and the damage to Rossthus would be catastrophic. His reputation and status in the future would be in jeopardy. For Alesta, this was more terrifying than facing a formidable enemy.
He had no choice but to press forward.
Even if it meant risking the lives of everyone here.
