Chapter 72: The Population Problem of the Elven Race
“Then it’s settled!”
Seeing it was feasible, Airael made her decision.
“But Your Majesty, you just mentioned those Lords and the 300mm Magical Energy Cannons. Isn’t it a bit awkward to change things up now?” Domiya spoke up.
“I never said we wouldn’t make the 300mm Magical Energy Cannons! It’s just that, as you said, we can’t produce that many right now. So let’s start with a weaker version as a substitute.”
“What about the money?”
“I’ll have them keep it for now. To them, it’s just a drop in the bucket anyway. Oh, and let’s not mention this to them just yet. We’ll wait until they pull out the money, then find the right moment to tell them.”
“Alright then!”
Domiya let out a bitter smile and nodded in agreement.
After chatting with Domiya a bit longer, Airael left the Magic Research Institute with Linis.
Once outside, Airael let out a sigh.
“Ah!”
“Your Majesty, what’s wrong? Why the sudden sigh?” Linis asked.
“My invincible fleet… I wonder when it will be built.”
“An invincible fleet?” Linis was quite curious.
“It’s a navy equipped with various advanced weapons! Like the Magical Energy Cannon Domiya developed! With those weapons, our navy would surely be invincible in the world.”
Linis chuckled in response, “As long as you have that idea, Your Majesty, just remember—having a dream means there will be a day it comes true.”
“But at this rate, who knows how long that’ll take. Linis, what do you think we can do to effectively increase the production capacity of our Elven Race?”
Linis’ eyes flashed slightly before she shook her head and fell silent.
Airael sighed again, choosing not to say anything further.
After all, if the population problem of the Elven Race were so easy to solve, we wouldn’t have ended up in this situation today.
As for herself, she must be considered lucky max!
Population really is a crucial issue!
No matter how advanced your technology is, it all relies on people to support it.
Even the most advanced technology requires people to develop, manufacture, and use it.
Back at the Avalon Royal Palace, Airael put this bothersome issue aside for the moment.
Though important, now was not the time to stubbornly pursue it.
There were other things she needed to do.
Like ensuring she could give birth to a healthy child.
In doing so, she could contribute her share to solving the population problem of the Elven Race.
Lying in bed, Airael gently caressed her still-not-very-visible belly and said softly, “Child, I will definitely ensure you are born healthy.”
With that, she drifted off to sleep.
Good rest habits are essential for a pregnant woman!
For the next while, apart from attending to her morning duties, Airael spent most of her time relaxing.
The ministers were very capable, managing the affairs of the royal city quite well.
As for the Elven Lords, Airael could currently only offer them guidance.
Whether or not they took her advice and how they went about it was entirely up to them.
Meanwhile, Domiya was as busy as a bee over at the Magic Research Institute.
With ample funding support, her team had established new research projects, and they had already begun designing long-distance communication devices.
As for the production of the Magical Energy Cannons, that task had been entrusted to the factories.
Domiya only needed to find time to create the weaker version of the Magical Energy Cannon and the even weaker magic guns as requested by Airael.
Linis wasn’t idle either.
Although she had entirely handed over her authority to Airael, there were still things to take care of within the Life Temple.
Recently, she was preparing to hold a big event—a large matchmaking assembly.
Gathering all the unmarried Elven men and women together, hoping they could find their other half among them.
The birth of new life could very well be born from this.
Though the effect might not be very significant, even a little improvement is better than none at all.
After hearing about this event, Airael was very supportive and made sure to open doors for Linis in every aspect.
Once the event concluded, Airael summoned Linis into the palace and asked, “Linis, how did the matchmaking event go?”
“It was quite average. Elves have high standards for their partners. If they’re not satisfied, they won’t settle. It’s not right for us to force our citizens too much on this point, so even though we gathered hundreds of unmarried individuals, only eight couples ended up pairing up.”
Airael didn’t expect the efficiency to be so low.
She thought at least dozens would make a match!
After some thought, Airael spoke up, “Linis, have you considered other ways to increase the population of the Elven Race?”
“Your Majesty, what do you mean by that?”
“I was thinking, could we not look into other methods to boost the birth rate of the Elven Race? Perhaps develop a potion that significantly increases the chances of female Elves conceiving.”
“Your Majesty! I know you’re not saying this lightly, but the birth of life is a sacred matter that should follow nature. I’m afraid our citizens wouldn’t accept such things.”
Even though Linis refused, her words let Airael know that this type of potion could indeed be produced, leading her to say, “I feel that adhering to this doctrine is completely unnecessary. If we continue like this, our Elven Race will face extinction. Is the tragedy of extinction not more important than an outdated doctrine?”
Linis stayed silent.
“Linis, this doctrine didn’t pose any problems when the Elven Race was thriving because we had plenty of population back then. We didn’t have to worry about these issues. But now it’s different; we’re facing a severe population crisis. I believe, if necessary, we should do everything we can to enhance the population of the Elven Race.
What I suggested was merely employing some fertility potions— the entire process will not lack anything at all.”
As she said this, Airael’s face turned slightly red.
Though she felt shy about bringing up the topic, it was indeed something very sacred.
Linis’ cheeks also tinged pink.
Unlike Airael, she was still a pure-hearted maiden, who had maintained her sacredness.
Once she managed her emotions, Airael continued, “So, this doesn’t really spoil any doctrine, does it?”
“Your Majesty, I need to think this over carefully.”
This time Linis didn’t refuse but instead took a step back.
“Alright, Linis, I hope you’ll think this through. Now isn’t the time to cling to outdated doctrines. We must look ahead and do what’s required by the times.”
