Chapter 104: Rebirth Thirteen
“Arrogant!”
Whoosh bang—
In that moment, the smoke-covered old woman suddenly swung her huge hammer. The hammer’s trajectory was perfectly accurate as it met the incoming holy spear head-on. The unmatched force shattered the spear into golden fragments, which exploded in the air. At the same time, she bent one leg and, with a thud, leaped up again.
“Cursed…”
“Faith团! Stop her—!!!”
Aresta’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice filled with panic as he roared. Outside his field of vision, the knights reacted first. The hum of miracles echoed, and golden light abruptly appeared in the sky, forming a solid barrier above the old woman’s head. But in the next moment, she swung her heavy hammer again. The massive, cracked steel weapon, wielded with a fierce wind sound, exploded with a loud bang, smashing the sin barrier to pieces!
“She wants to save Carlos!”
“La! Mus! Ta—”
The young bishop was nearly frantic as he roared at the two monks who had joined the crowd earlier. The monks responded quickly. Seeing that the sin barrier was ineffective, one of them floated up from among the knights, surrounded by brilliant golden light. A thin beam of light shot from his fingertips!
Almost simultaneously, the silent, blinding white light appeared at the far end of the horizon, too fast to avoid. The old woman, who had just emerged from the golden fragments, was directly hit in the abdomen. Blood and flesh splattered out from the black mist swirling around her.
“Cough…”
In mid-air, Apfel coughed up a large mouthful of pus and blood. She glanced at the floating monk, her lips curling into a vicious smile. Then, without hesitation, she continued to charge upward. The giant hammer spun like a wheel in her hands. Two seconds later, she reached the front of the cross.
“Hey hey hey…”
Carlos, tightly bound by chains, weakly said, “Apfel, you…”
“Shut up, noisy!”
In the man’s slightly dull azure eyes, the old woman’s fat body twisted once. The huge hammer, carrying a chilling wind, suddenly struck the top of the cross.
Clang clang clang clang—
The enormous sound reverberated over everyone’s heads at that moment. Strong winds swept in all directions, knocking the knights below off balance, almost causing them to fall. The floating monk was blown away with a whoosh, while the nearby knight commander gritted his teeth and held firm, his face as cold as ice.
“Damn, damn, damn!!!”
On the other side, outside the ruins, Bishop Aresta was already furious. His forehead veins bulged as he shouted almost incoherently at the monks, “Go go go, all of you! Kill her, kill that damned madwoman—”
He paid no attention to their expressions and turned to ride his horse. He gave a “Ha!” and turned the beast’s head, running a dozen meters down the dirt path toward the direction of the western town. Muttering a few words, he raised his right hand high on the beast’s back. With a hum, a miracle trembled around him.
Old hag…
Old hag!
One after another, all of you are hindering me, hindering me!!
Why?!?!
Aresta’s accumulated anger had completely spiraled out of control. The fury mixed with endless frustration surged from his chest, rushing to his head instantly. Young as he was, he felt a surge of energy within him. If he couldn’t release it, he would lose all interest in reclaiming the fire seed.
I don’t care who you are… what hero.
..
Never mind what happened here before…
As long as I can make those two die a tragic death before that old sword saint returns, only then can my heart find peace. It would be better if that cunning old man doesn’t come back; with him gone, no one will be able to stop me…
Even if he does return, he won’t be able to do anything to me. Those two damned papal knights dared to obstruct the church’s orders; even if they manage to leave here alive, they still cannot escape their death sentence. Moreover, judging from Apufier’s appearance, he seems to have been corrupted by the power of the Dead Smoke… Haha, serves them right!
Making things this chaotic…
I said it was self-inflicted. They tried to gain something but ended up losing more. Both were severely injured by that strange sphere; unfortunately, we couldn’t save them…
Whoosh—
While Aresta was thinking, he quickly made his decision in his heart. The light of Mafa rose from his raised right hand, soaring to a hundred meters high before suddenly exploding, releasing a holy light several times stronger than before, illuminating the gray sky with colorful brilliance.
“His Eminence…”
Behind him, the three monks who heard the order still hadn’t taken action. They watched the young bishop ride away with his beast, and saw the holy light rising from above, illuminating everyone’s pupils as it exploded. After exchanging glances under that dazzling light, one of them couldn’t help but sneer.
“What are they doing? The second son of the Ross family seems to be at his wit’s end.”
“Huh, a young punk…”
“Using our choir members as subordinates…”
“Hey, should we follow his orders?”
“…Let’s wait and see. The situation with the old papal knight is indeed not good. Let the First Knight Order take the risk; we’ll watch and wait… Should we call back those two as well? To be honest, I’ve even considered retreating.”
“Tsk, that useless fellow…”
The three nearby whispered among themselves, while not far away, the cross of holy light had already shattered, and the spreading shockwave gradually subsided. The old woman Apufier fell from the halo fragments with a thud, landing heavily on the ground. Following closely was Carlos, covered in blood, falling not far behind her.
Seeing this scene, the knights nearby raised their swords and began to retreat, quickly forming a circle around the two. From afar, more knights were rushing towards them, their hoofbeats echoing loudly on the soft ground.
“Hey, Carlos kid, are you okay?”
Apufier grinned at the group of knights, asking without turning her head. Then she heard Carlos gritting his teeth behind her, “Not dead yet… but you hit me hard… cough, cough—”
“Can you move?”
“I’m afraid… cough, it’s a bit difficult…”
“Then lie down for now.”
“Hey, Senior, you…”
Carlos lay on the ground, trying to prop himself up with his elbows to sit up, but failed several times. He saw the fat figure in front of him, wrapped in Dead Smoke, ravaged by injuries, and struggled to maintain his expression.
“I’m sorry, it seems I’ve brought trouble upon you…”
The man clenched his teeth and said.
After a moment, he heard the old woman’s response, which wasn’t quite a response.
“Hey, Carlos… When I was in a bad mood earlier, I didn’t ask you. Since you left with Lea, Mr. Old Man and I thought we wouldn’t see you again for a long time. But you returned to the town so soon, which surprised me. I was wondering if something else happened after you left, like meeting someone or encountering something, leading to your current actions…”
