Chapter 7 The Food Is So Delicious (For This Cute Girl, It’s a Male Addition Update)
Mei Lijun’s motorcycle was a sit-up style, and it was a bit difficult for the children to get on by themselves. After much effort, Mei Lijun finally managed to lift Mei Fang and Lin You Xi onto the bike. He then put on his raincoat, covering their heads with it.
Since Mei Fang sat in the middle, he could just peek out from the opening at the back of the raincoat. Lin You Xi had to bow her head, her forehead touching Mei Fang’s back.
“Make sure you hold on tight. We’re about to start!”
The motorcycle’s gasoline engine roared like an old tractor, shaking violently. Lin You Xi kept her hands on her legs, too afraid to touch Mei Fang.
“Lin You Xi, grab my clothes. Aren’t you scared of falling?”
Mei Fang’s voice was drowned out by the engine and thunder. Once the motorcycle started moving, Lin You Xi was thrown backward and clung tightly to him, arms wrapped around his waist, until they got home.
…
“Phew… this rain is really heavy.”
Back at home, Mei Lijun was well-protected by the raincoat, but Lin You Xi and Mei Fang looked like two drenched chickens.
“You’re back. Quickly go take a bath, or you’ll catch a cold…”
Xiang Xiaxia brought dry towels to the door to wipe Mei Fang’s face when she noticed a little girl standing beside him, head down.
“This is my kindergarten classmate, Lin You Xi… Her father hasn’t come to pick her up yet,” Mei Fang explained quickly.
“Oh, come in! Let me find some of Mei Fang’s clothes for you. I’ll help you both take a bath. Then I’ll wash your hair for you.”
Lin You Xi neither nodded nor shook her head, standing there blankly. Mei Fang pulled her gently and whispered, “Why don’t we have dinner at our place? You must be starving.”
“Okay.”
Lin You Xi only spoke to children.
The experience Lin You Xi had at kindergarten reminded Mei Fang of his own past, which was why he helped her. In junior high, he also had an unpopular female classmate who was often teased. She never fought back but endured silently.
One time, she didn’t have money for lunch, so Mei Fang lent her some to buy bread. She returned the money the next day and gave him a bottle of milk as a thank-you gift.
Despite everything, she eventually transferred schools, leaving behind a postcard expressing her gratitude and calling him her best friend in the class.
This act of kindness that he thought was ordinary was seen as a precious friendship by her.
Apart from this, Lin You Xi was a good friend of Xia Yuan, and even though their connection was not real, he still felt like he knew her.
Leaving her alone was something Mei Fang couldn’t bear.
While his mother took Lin You Xi to the bathroom, Mei Lijun lectured Mei Fang.
“What’s gotten into you lately? You used to avoid girls, now you’re so concerned about them? First Xia Yuan, now Lin You Xi… you’re quite the ladies’ man. But… you do remind me of your father, back in the day…”
“Bullshit,” Mei Fang couldn’t help but comment.
“If you were so capable, you wouldn’t have married a wife who doesn’t give you pocket money. Why suffer?”
“You little brat, talking bad about your mom! Who raised you so plump? White-eyed wolf… Your mom is the most virtuous and beautiful woman in the area. Who else would I marry?”
It was clear that this flattering speech was meant for his wife, who had just walked in.
Xiang Xiaxia brought Lin You Xi out after washing her hair. She seemed happy to have a guest, despite the surprise.
Lin You Xi looked much more refreshed, wearing Mei Fang’s single-layer clothing, clean and tidy. Her mother had tied her hair into a high ponytail braid.
“How does it look? Isn’t the braid pretty? Lift your head, Lin You Xi, there’s nothing to be shy about.”
Reluctantly, Lin You Xi lifted her head, then quickly lowered it again.
Mei Fang silently approved of his mother.
She did look quite cute.
“By the way, why did it take you so long to blow-dry your hair in the bathroom?”
Mei Lijun sighed, “The food has gone cold.”
Unlike his father, Mei Fang responded, “Mom, your braid looks really nice.”
“Still, Mei Fang is such a thoughtful boy. But it’s not just your mom’s skill; Lin You Xi is very cute too!”
Xiang Xiaxia gently pinched Lin You Xi’s cheek, her expression filled with happiness.
“I wish I could have a daughter… but we can’t think about having another child.”
“Don’t even think about it. You talk too much.”
Arguments between parents were common for Mei Fang, but during this financially stable period, they sounded particularly light-hearted.
Just as the family was about to sit down for dinner, Mei Lijun received a call from Lin You Xi’s father. After a brief conversation, he handed the phone to Lin You Xi, who went to the balcony to talk. Xiang Xiaxia whispered:
“Is he coming to pick her up soon?”
Mei Lijun shook his head, “Her dad said there was an issue at the construction site, so he’ll be late.”
“Under such heavy rain, safety first.”
Xiang Xiaxia added, “Speaking of which, isn’t Lin You Xi’s father the third son of the Lin family from the East Gate Fish Market? The one involved in construction?”
Mei Lijun nodded, watching Lin You Xi talking to her father on the balcony. He replied softly, “Last time, there was a small conflict between Lin You Xi and Mei Fang. I met her father, the one whose wife passed away in a car accident a few years ago.”
“It’s good you brought her home. Such a young girl without a mother is pitiful.”
After hearing their conversation, Mei Fang understood why his father had agreed so readily today.
His parents might not be capable in many ways, but they influenced him greatly in how they treated others.
After the call, Lin You Xi was warmly invited to sit at the table, with Mei Lijun pouring cola for her.
“Try this… Today we specially made a chicken. You and Mei Fang each get a leg… no, you should have both.”
Xiang Xiaxia filled Lin You Xi’s bowl with love, while Mei Lijun subtly signaled her not to overdo it, which she ignored.
Mei Fang’s bowl contained only a few pieces of vegetables and beans.
Lin You Xi often left unfinished food on the table at school, but at Mei Fang’s house, she was well-behaved, eating carefully and trying to finish everything. Seeing her struggle, Mei Fang asked,
“Can you finish?”
Lin You Xi shook her head.
“Then share some with me. Don’t force yourself.”
Lin You Xi spooned some rice and meat into Mei Fang’s bowl, then whispered something to him.
Mei Fang smiled slightly.
“Don’t be shy. If you like it, you can tell Mom and Dad directly.”
Lin You Xi shook her head, her cheeks turning red, then quickly lowered her head.
“What are you two whispering about? Tell me too,” Xiang Xiaxia said, interested in their secret conversation.
Mei Fang looked up and told his mother, “Lin You Xi said, Mom, your food is so delicious. I want to come eat at your house again.”
Just as Lin You Xi raised her head to object, Mei Lijun burst out laughing.
“Hahaha… there’s nothing to be embarrassed about! When your dad comes, I’ll tell him to let you come eat at our house every day!”
“Good idea,” Xiang Xiaxia nodded. “This means I have another daughter… I’ll tie your hair prettily every day, okay?”
Unable to resist the warmth, Lin You Xi alternated between silence and shaking her head. Seeing Mei Fang enjoying the chicken leg she shared with him, she became annoyed.
She reached out and pinched Mei Fang’s thigh hard, causing him to cry out in pain.
