Chapter 698: Slaying the Demon Beast
The long hair fluttered, air currents swirling, pale green particles gathering in the sky.
Despite still being somewhat weak, relying on her control over wind and atmosphere, a large amount of mana directly transformed into the magic of the Natural Sequence in the wind. This then condensed along the vortex, gradually forming a long, emerald spear.
Holding the cold emerald spear, Lolan Hill turned in a huge arc high in the sky, aiming the spear tip directly at the gray-brown zhi vulture.
The gray bony beak collided with the long spear tip, breaking off part of it. Then, the pair of iron feathers slashed towards Lolan Hill like scythes.
It was originally an area where there was no place to gain leverage in the sky, but Lolan Hill agilely rotated her body, evading the pair of hard iron feathers from below. She then swept the spear downward along the monster bird’s chest, directly piercing through its huge bloody mouth.
Injured severely, this evil bird also had thoughts of retreat, spreading its wings to fly high and escape this place.
But at this moment, you can’t do as you please, the young lady sighed inwardly while watching the silhouette of the monster bird.
Air currents gathered from the sky, continuously compressing to form wind threads that entwined around the spear, exuding a chilling aura.
“Penetrate·Cassius!”
The blue light streaked across the sky, instantly striking the monster bird, piercing through its body. The wind threads entwining the spear cut the monster bird into pieces, scattering from the sky.
Lolan Hill took a deep breath, wiped the sweat from her forehead, and finally lowered her hand.
Finally, she managed to successfully deal with this guy.
Chirp chirp—
After finishing, two birds flew over, chirping as if they were concerned about whether the young lady was injured.
“A bit wounded, but it will heal soon,” the young lady shook her head. Although the self-healing ability of the Natural Sequence was not as powerful as that of the Angel or Demon Sequences, it was still quite strong, just taking a little more time.
After catching her breath, she flew over with the two birds, collecting the corpse of the monster bird. They then extracted the remaining extraordinary core and mana, and a half-transparent smoky crystal appeared in her palm.
[Death Spirit Gem] (Excellent Pearl Grade): Formed after slaying the Sequence 6 zhi vulture of the Necromancer Sequence, retaining most of the magic condensed before death.
This could be quite useful for cultivation, the young lady thought. Perhaps this could be considered another form of leveling up by defeating monsters?
The claws and beak of the monster bird could also be used to make some weapons. Although she herself couldn’t use them, the other residents here could. At worst, she could sell them for money.
After cleaning up the battlefield, Lolan Hill and the two birds flew towards the nest of the evil vulture.
Wanting to check the internal situation, she had not yet stepped inside when a foul smell hit her face, causing the young lady to involuntarily stop.
Lifting the tattered black cloak and holding it over her mouth and nose, she carefully flew in, surrounded by a circular aura that separated her from the outside world.
“This…”
Looking at the cruel and terrifying scene before her eyes, she felt a strong urge to vomit.
In the ten-meter stone crevice, there were large accumulations of bones. Apart from a few animal bones, most of them were human bones, with many rotten skulls still attached, all of which were hideous and frightening.
She then stepped back out, returning to mid-air outside the mountain peak.
Holding the wooden sword wrapped in flames, as she chanted an ethereal incantation, red flames appeared in the air and rushed towards the nest in the cliff under the swing of the longsword.
The scorching fire snakes moved, roasting the inside of the cliff, constantly heating up.
Puffs of black smoke emerged from the cave, but the young lady did not stop easily; instead, she kept summoning flames to roast the inside until the bones inside turned to ashes and scattered, and the mountain wall was baked into glass-like material. Only then did she gradually put down the red wutong wooden sword.
Such scenes were not unique. In the following months, Lolan Hill received several more tasks to eliminate demonic beasts.
Some were the terrifying zhiyu birds, others were the ghostly serpents with human-faced patterns lurking in the mountains, and still others were the nightmarish black-and-white dream-eating moke. These demonic beasts, born from the Nine Yin Dark Qi, naturally had a preference for eating humans.
Not for any other reason, just because humans, as intelligent beings, have stronger souls, so these necromancer sequence monsters prefer them. Additionally, in this group of Sunset Mountains, other large animals were scarce, leaving humans as the most active species, thus becoming their primary food source.
As beasts, these demonic creatures lacked the morals that humans possess; to them, eating humans was no different from eating other animals.
But for humans, this was an emotionally unacceptable act, hence masked envoys often killed these demonic beasts to protect their vulnerable kin.
After another successful hunt of a demonic beast, Lolan Hill returned to the shrine courtyard in the secluded valley.
“Is little Jialan back?” Granny Glo’s voice came from outside the courtyard. After getting to know each other better over this period, the witch granny had started using this nickname.
“Yes,” Lolan Hill opened the gate and saw the old man standing at the entrance.
“Are you okay? Were you hurt?” Granny Glo asked with concern.
“No,” she replied. It wasn’t out of modesty; after gradually becoming familiar with the habits of these demonic beasts, Lolan Hill became increasingly swift in killing them, no longer experiencing the losses she once did.
Well.
”Huff, that’s good.” Granny Gro sighed in relief.
”Why didn’t you tell me, child? I always thought those demonic beasts were no higher than fifth sequence until today when Lake brought news, revealing there are sixth sequence demonic beasts among them,” Granny Gro said, her heart still trembling as she looked at Lolan Hill.
Times had changed. Sixth sequence demonic beasts could usually only be defeated by elite disciples who were fifth sequence. This young lady was only fourth sequence; even if her talent was exceptional, fighting such beasts would be too dangerous.
”It’s fine, Granny. I’m used to it, and besides, I have two helpers with me.” With that, the young lady clapped her hands, and two birds flew out from the courtyard, landing on a nearby stone.
One blue and one yellow bird, after being trained by the young lady for these days, had both reached Sequence 4 and had grown larger, becoming rounder.
There was no help for it; the food had improved a lot recently.
Lolan Hill did not want to eat the demonic beasts she defeated, but the two birds did not mind. After each battle, the young lady would make barbecue on the spot to give the little creatures a treat. They had been getting fatter lately.
And under the young lady’s special instructions, the two little ones hadn’t advanced hastily but continued to accumulate magic power, choosing a better path for advancement later.
Although they couldn’t be considered powerful, they could hold their own against ordinary fifth sequence demonic beasts. Even if they couldn’t win, they could easily save themselves instead of being completely useless like before.
Chirp chirp—
Fat Dai Ju spread its wings, and the orange feathers on its head slightly lifted, like a tiny flame. As its wings flapped, waves of heat came toward Granny Gro, making her realize how formidable they were.
”Good, good children.” Seeing this, Granny Gro felt a bit more at ease.
”Recently, the villages and towns around here have become much more peaceful. You can take some time to rest.”
”You’re not old, so you don’t need to stay here guarding the shrine with me all the time. If you have free time, you can go to the valley for a walk and relax a bit.”
”Though it’s not very bustling, compared to the outside world, it has its unique charm.”
”This… sounds good.” Although she preferred reading books and enjoying the breeze in the courtyard, the young lady agreed to the shrine maiden’s kindness. Indeed, she had been running around for a long time and hadn’t really understood how the locals lived yet.
She should also find some materials to make something. Recently, she had accumulated many materials, but some auxiliary materials were still lacking.
Tomorrow, she would go to the valley and take a look.
