Chapter 66

The meeting began with Cash’s sudden announcement.

Department heads and executives headed to the conference room.

Originally, the meeting was scheduled to start after lunch.

But Cash postponed it.

It was for a casual chat with Amon after lunch.

As a cold-blooded businesswoman, she didn’t confuse priorities between the meeting and a conversation with Amon.

Of course, there was bound to be dissatisfaction.

Suddenly postponing the meeting, suddenly starting the meeting.

It was clearly an act of tyranny.

But no one could blame her.

One, because her power in the company was absolute.

And two, because the profit Cash Rekhetio alone brought to the company was incomparable to the combined profits of all the participants in this meeting.

She had proven herself in just a few months.

No one in this room could even come close to matching her achievements.

Perhaps she had even more talent than her father, the Chairman.

Therefore, no one could raise objections to her tyranny.

Soon, the meeting proceeded under her leadership.

Past achievements, future plans.

And the projects currently in progress.

“We’ve currently entrusted a mercenary with a request related to White Dawn.”

Upon hearing this, the executives nodded.

With that, the meeting was about to end without any objections.

Then, one director raised his hand.

“Is there a reason you entrusted this to that mercenary?”

Cash tilted her head.

“Is there a problem?”

“I don’t trust that mercenary.”

At the director’s words, everyone in the meeting room was stunned.

What the hell?

What is this guy saying?

But the director maintained a confident attitude even under their gazes.

“He’s a mercenary. We don’t know when he might betray us. I think it’s dangerous to keep sharing and entrusting such important projects to him. Moreover, he’s rejected all employment offers. It’s hard to trust someone who isn’t under any restraint.”

“…What do you suggest, Director?”

“I think we should put a leash on him. If not that… at least cut ties.”

The executives in the meeting room were shocked.

There were times like this.

People who are good at socializing but confuse priorities.

This confident director was prioritizing the company and the family over Amon as an individual.

In other words, he saw Amon as a tool.

This was a normal way of thinking in a typical megacorp.

Individuals were nothing more than tools for the company.

Especially since this director was recently recruited from outside due to internal purges.

It wasn’t strange for him to see Amon as a tool out of habit.

The problem was that if this director was mistaken about anything, it was that this company was now a one-man show of the Rekhetio family.

The company’s priorities couldn’t override personal feelings.

The other directors, who accurately understood this fact, watched Cash’s expression.

Cash’s expression was no different from usual.

Her emotions were unreadable.

This fact only heightened their fear.

The oblivious director, as if convinced of his loyalty, proposed to Cash.

“I think it’s dangerous to continue sharing company secrets with that young man, Amon.”

The director’s statement ended.

Cash looked at the director with a meaningful gaze and nodded.

“I’ll consider it positively.”

*

That evening.

The director who had given Cash advice during the meeting stayed late at the office.

He was typing away in his office when he checked the clock.

10 PM.

Most executives had already left.

He got up and left his office.

The director entered the elevator and pressed the button.

Not to the lower floors, but to the upper floors.

The AI guarding the elevator asked the director heading to the upper floors.

[This floor contains the office of Director Cash Rekhetio. Please state your reason for visiting this floor.]

“I have a personal report for the Director.”

[The Director has already left for the day. It is recommended to report tomorrow, but if you wish to leave something at the door, access is permitted.]

A very flexible AI.

But the director shook his head.

“Is that so? Then I won’t go. I’ll report to the Director tomorrow. Is the archive room accessible now?”

[It is accessible.]

The AI granted permission.

The director got off on the floor with the archive room.

Inside the archive room, he muttered to himself.

“She’s gone home…”

He then enthusiastically typed away on the computer.

After that, he plugged in a USB, looked around a few times, and then unplugged it.

He hurriedly left the archive room and returned to his office.

Back in his office, he double-locked the door and made a call to someone.

“Yes, yes. Chairman. If I bring this, will you guarantee my identity? Yes. I’ll be right there.”

After the call, the director grabbed his coat.

That’s when it happened.

Crash!

A spear pierced through the door and flew in.

The director’s magic engraving activated, creating a shield in front of the spear, but the spear tore through the shield and headed straight for his chest.

The director leaned to the side.

But the spear curved, determined not to miss its target.

“!!!”

His sternum shattered, and he felt his heart burst.

The spear that pierced his chest changed direction from horizontal to vertical, skewering him like a kebab.

The director, hanging in the air, began to lose consciousness.

His expensive life-support device worked furiously, but it was meaningless with his heart blown apart.

In his fading consciousness, Cash walked in through the shattered office door.

“Betrayal probability. 30%. I had a feeling, but it turned out to be true.”

Cash looked down at the director with cold eyes.

She searched his pockets and pulled out his phone.

The Water Buffalo Tanker and Mute Sniper from the security department followed her in.

Cash tossed the phone to them.

“Track it.”

They nodded.

The two managers from the security department sent out a telepathic message.

[Clean it up.]

Late at night.

They quietly laughed and prepared to leave.

*

Meanwhile, while Cash was stabilizing the company,

Amon and Sonia returned to their hometown.

When they left their hometown, they didn’t trust the airline and came in the priest’s car.

At that time, Amon was secretly sponsored by the 3 Dollar Group.

He couldn’t show off as a businessman, and his luggage was full of expensive equipment and items, so there was a chance the airline might swallow it whole.

They could get it back through a lawsuit, but they didn’t want the hassle.

But returning to their hometown was different.

Now, they could openly show their company backing without any issues.

When they showed the Rekhetio executive card, the airline treated them with utmost respect.

The staff recommended the premium class without hesitation.

Amon and Sonia gladly accepted.

On the plane, the stewardess cautiously asked Amon.

“We have a special in-flight meal and service for newlyweds. Would you like it?”

Amon was flustered, but Sonia linked arms with him and nodded.

“Please.”

After that, the two enjoyed couple menus and foot baths as they returned to their hometown.

Upon arriving, they headed straight to the orphanage.

“Dungeon exploration can start tomorrow.”

Amon naturally linked arms with Sonia as they headed to the orphanage.

While calling a taxi to the orphanage, Sonia chattered excitedly.

But as they got closer to the orphanage, her words grew fewer.

Her gaze was fixed on a massive building.

Soon, the taxi arrived and dropped them off.

A glance revealed a grand 10-story building with a flashy LED sign that read <Perfume Roses Orphanage>.

Seeing the building, Sonia exclaimed in disbelief.

“Wait, didn’t they say it was just repairs?”

Amon was also baffled.

“They said they’d do some interior work…”

“Did you mistake redevelopment for interior work?”

“Seriously, they said interior work. The accountant sent by the 3 Dollar Group Chairman gave the estimate!”

“Isn’t that based on a megacorp Chairman’s standards?”

“Oh.”

In the sparkling LED sign.

The 3 Dollar Group mascot occasionally appeared, winking and giving a thumbs up.
