Chapter 21 The Fragment of History Part 2

In the middle period of the Divine Presence Era, humans had once caused a large-scale collapse of mines due to excessive exploitation. Within the area covered by the sunken basin, there was a small tribe of Trolls that was entirely buried and perished underground.

This was the initial spark of the war.

Prior to this, including the Trolls, the alien races had not lacked intentions to negotiate with humans. They had sent envoys to the Holy City several times, but all negotiations ultimately ended fruitlessly. Humans were greedier than could be imagined, showing no respect for the rules of nature. Their desires knew no bounds. After finally understanding this, the enraged Troll race launched an attack on human cities first.

The strong and powerful Trolls wielded clubs and stone tools, and wooden mallets wrapped in thorns. In the early stages of the war, they toppled one city after another. At that time, the Holy Order Knights were not yet mature and had not established a complete system. The army consisted mainly of timid farmers skilled in farming or wild hunters who only knew how to survive. Lacking organization and tactical capabilities, they were utterly incapable of defending against the Trolls’ attacks. The army collapsed at the slightest contact, and on the battlefield, they faced nothing but slaughter.

The Trolls’ successive victories also gave a clear signal to those alien races that chose to watch: humans had not grown to the extent they had imagined.

That race remained as fragile as ever.

Thus, the war escalated to a white-hot stage. Led by the Fairies, the alien races chose to ally with the Trolls to eliminate humans, the top enemy of nature. The fierce army marched towards the Holy City, nearly causing the birthplace of humanity to fall completely, putting humans once again in a critical moment of life and death.

At this moment, “Gidels” — the existence revered by humans as the Fertile Mother Goddess — intervened to halt the war.

“We do not understand how the deities were convinced by their followers, but they indeed deviated from their role as world managers, making unfair judgments and actions. They began to ignore the laws of nature, standing behind chaos and disorder.

Perhaps I should not say this about my own kind, but it is indeed true.

As great deities, among the Gidels, a few existences ignored the harmful actions of humans toward natural order. They disregarded the essence of the conflict in this war and the interests of all races other than humans. They became blind supporters, attempting to end the war through brute force.”

The first invasion by the alien army was shattered by the angels dispatched by the Fertile Mother Goddess.

I do not understand why such an irrational situation arose, but I believe I have found the most crucial reason. As a historian and a rational theologian, I have studied some content related to Gidels. I have a bold hypothesis — perhaps I should not reveal this, but according to ancient texts, these great deities seem not to be very intelligent.

Despite having appearances extremely similar to ours, compared to humans, these beings of the Gidels are closer to creatures possessing immense energy but with linear thinking, something akin to primitive beasts.

In other words, they are not much different from wild lions and tigers, although powerful, they can be easily deceived by wise humans. With just a tempting “trap,” they can be confined within a “cage.”

These are the exact words in the book.

In the author’s deeper speculation, the former Mother Goddess had also considered establishing treaties to constrain human behavior and prevent the escalation of conflicts. However, due to their simplistic way of thinking, the proposed treaties were full of loopholes for their followers, failing to serve any real purpose of restraint.

The actions of the deities were ultimately manipulated by their followers.

Thus, the originally weak human race, struggling even to survive, gained protection under the divine power of the Gidels. They had sufficient food, and driven by the trend of population growth, they continuously expanded their territory year after year, squeezing the living space of other alien races.

This conflict missed its best opportunity for resolution. Afterward, hatred grew, making the battlefield increasingly brutal, with no room for any侥幸 (侥幸 means侥幸).

The grace of the Sin Goddess allowed humans to truly resist alien races. Our fellow humans became increasingly audacious, finally starting to use military force to invade alien territories, conquer their lands and homes. The war spread from Westland to Eastland, reaching the abode of the Undying Ones, the Amikir Mountains.

Since then, the traditionally peace-loving Undying Ones were also forced to join the war.

In the face of the power that could move mountains and fill seas, controlled by spiritual energy, humans fell back into a state of abandoning armor and retreating, being pushed back repeatedly. Next came the counterattack by the alien races. Summoned by the Undying Ones, the sky-darkening dragons appeared, each capable of destroying a human city.

At this point, several other existences of the Gidels finally realized the severity of the situation.

Those were the words left in the book.

The corrupted Jideles clan, whose existence was not recorded in the Church’s apocalyptic scriptures of the future, were not acknowledged by the clergy as gods. Instead, they gave them a new name: demons.

As the war entered its later stages and evolved into a true world-shaking battle, it was no longer a conflict between different races but a struggle between “gods” and “demons,” a dispute among the Jideles. Led by the Bountiful Mother Goddess, deities such as the God of Healing, the Goddess of Sin, the God of Wisdom, and the God of Darnaxi, these beings engaged in fierce battles with their own kin.

This was truly a war among the gods; the victors would become true deities, rewriting all the rules of this world. Their victory or defeat determined whether humans or other races would perish, and the formidable strength of the Jideles clan soon brought disasters to the entire world.

Later, humans awakened the most ancient gods.

Afterwards, the contents of the ancient book became fragmented due to the erosion of time. Some yellowed pages even showed signs of being torn, and I could only vaguely discern through the blurry and barely legible script that the final outcome of the war was in favor of the Bountiful Mother Goddess, or rather, humanity.

The opposing Jideles seemed to have been almost completely eradicated.

As for the fate of those other races, it was self-evident here. The Immortals lost their power to move mountains and fill seas, dragons were banished to the pitch-black land, the fairies’ ears were no longer sharp, and the flying races began to lose their feathers and could no longer soar through the sky.

All of them lost their ability to survive.

According to the book’s speculation, this was due to the fact that the Jideles who had bestowed power upon these other races had all perished in that war.

Afterwards, humans monopolized the fertile lands of two continents, and the Holy Church was officially established.

This was part of the history I learned from this incomplete ancient book… I am certain this is what some call partial truth.

And more information came from another book, even more tattered and seemingly gnawed by insects, which I found.

It was a book about the Jideles clan.

In terms of content, it seemed like a research report, but one thing shocked me: although most of the content was missing, the cover was relatively intact, allowing me to see the title of the book.

It was called “The Book of Songs.”

And below it was a small note: “Renewed faith is the prerequisite for all service.”

At the moment I held the book, I suddenly remembered that I had seen the same book before.

Back when I was in the royal city, in the illusion created by Eilush in her office adorned with a black thorn cloak, I had seen this book there.

I remember flipping through that book with the same name in the illusion, but it was blank inside, containing nothing. At that time, I didn’t know that the contents within the illusion formed by the power of “Annihilation” were entirely based on personal imagination; what appeared depended on the person creating the illusion and what they could understand and remember.

Now I understand.

Clearly, the illusion created by Eilush back then was the “clinic” we once stayed at together in Silgaya. She had done her best to recreate everything, including this book titled “The Book of Songs,” which must have been something she saw and remembered vividly during her time there.

But she never read the contents of the book, so she couldn’t imagine what was inside. Therefore, when I flipped through the book in the illusion, I saw only blank pages because she couldn’t imagine those words.

Now, in Elina’s basement, I found a real copy of “The Book of Songs.”

Despite its age and the vast amount of content it had lost.

The book was mostly just an introduction, with the subsequent pages chewed up by insects, the text blurred as if soaked in water, making it unreadable. Only a small portion of the front part was still somewhat legible, documenting human understanding of the Jideles, or rather, the Church’s understanding of them.

My summary of these contents mainly includes three points.

First, the so-called Jideles, or gods, exist in the form of “seeds,” or essences, with each individual having a different form and thus different abilities. These seeds drive the actions of giant-like divine bodies and serve as the carriers of divine power, coexisting with them.

In other words, the seed is the brain and central power source of the Jideles. This aligns with my previous conjectures, and their immense divine power requires a divine body or physical form to be sustained and released.

Second, unlike ordinary beings, if their bodies are destroyed, their brains cannot survive independently. Even if the Jideles’ physical forms are obliterated, as long as their seeds remain undamaged, they will not die and can even regenerate their physical forms.

Third, the Jideles possess the power to imbue “bodies” with “divine power.” They are the overseers of the world’s rules, yet their intelligence is not particularly high. Compared to humans, they only have basic communication and judgment abilities, simple emotions, desires, and instincts, but more of their characteristics resemble those of biological instincts.

These beings are still not fully evolved and should either be eliminated or utilized by humans.
