Chapter 633: The Striped Giant Bull
The next day,
The occasional chirping of birds from the mountain area woke the young lady from her slumber, and only then did she feel a chill.
The fire in front of her had long gone out, leaving behind some ash and unburned parts nearby.
Another day began. The young lady thought to herself, then walked to the stream to wash her face and clear her mind.
The cool dew splashed onto her skin, water droplets trickling down her face, occasionally rolling down between her delicate collarbones, giving her a slight chill.
She lifted her long hair to keep it dry, then cupped some clear water to quench her thirst before standing up.
Today, I’ll explore around and see if there’s any sign of other people living nearby.
Following the stream downstream, the dew in the forest wetted her shoes slightly, forcing her to be cautious.
Last night, she seemed to have had a very long dream. In the dream, she appeared to be younger, and the place she lived was quite special.
It seemed to be a bustling world with tall buildings, streets, vehicles, and pedestrians. People were discussing various things; some she couldn’t understand, while others seemed familiar.
Every day, she would carry her schoolbag to and from school, meeting peers her age along the way, laughing and excitedly talking about the animated shows they watched yesterday.
What are these animated shows? Her thoughts momentarily paused here.
These matters could be pondered later. There will come a time when memories return. She encouraged herself.
Why do I need to encourage myself? A doubt flashed through her mind. It seemed like, because her former self wasn’t as strong.
The young lady sighed softly, leaping over a depression and landing on a grayish-blue rock, where her view opened up a bit.
At this moment, she was on a hillside, with a shallow green world below. The leaves in the mountain forest swayed gently in the breeze, making soft rustling sounds. The sun rose slowly at the horizon, casting a faint golden light over the landscape.
Compared to the stream and forest she stayed in yesterday morning, the world below the mountain seemed even more lively.
Just by standing on this rock, she could hear the squirrels and raccoons running in the forest, the grunting of wild boars, the chirping of birds, and the crawling of small insects among the fallen leaves.
The stream at her feet encountered a small cliff, flowing down the mountainside and falling into a cold water pool below.
She looked around but found no easy path to descend.
In the end, she found a relatively flat spot and jumped down.
Her body seemed to transition from one world to another, everything around her becoming vivid. Under the sunlight, her body felt slightly warmer.
Her toes landed on the soft grass and fallen leaves, and she took a few light steps forward to cushion the impact, finally stabilizing herself.
Unfortunately, there still seemed to be no signs of human life around. The young lady had no choice but to continue descending towards the foot of the mountain.
Thus, until night fell, she was still wandering endlessly in the mountain forests. She had no choice but to stop temporarily, gather some dead branches and leaves, and prepare a fire to spend the night.
Compared to yesterday, the vegetation on the mountain slope was richer, which allowed her to find edible fruits.
It seemed to be called persimmons. The young lady looked at the orange-green fruit in her hand, with a thin layer of white frost on its surface.
After peeling it, the flesh inside was sweet but also had a slight astringency.
But there were plenty of them. She looked up at the tree in front of her, where the persimmons hung attractively.
Today, she could finally fill her stomach. A slight happiness welled up in her heart.
And just as she was eating the persimmon, a sudden rush of sound came from afar. The young lady raised her head in surprise, not yet knowing what was happening, when she saw a robust ‘bull’ charging out from the woods.
Its towering and powerful body was intimidating, while the young lady looked frail and delicate beside it.
The young lady had to quickly jump away to avoid the giant bull’s charge. The force of the impact lifted her hair and caused her clothes to flutter violently.
Missed, the bull’s hooves pounded heavily on the ground, sliding for a short distance before stopping. Then it turned back, its black eyes fixed on the young lady.
It was breathing heavily, with enormous horns that were jet-black and rough, looking quite menacing. If hit by those sharp horns, it would likely leave a hole in her body.
But what surprised the young lady most was the bull’s features, which didn’t match her common knowledge.
Its fur was a chestnut color with black stripes, making it appear fierce. Its roar sounded like someone in pain, sending chills down her spine.
Seeing the giant bull, weighing nearly 400 kilograms, staring at her, the young lady felt a bit scared. She slowly stepped back, then looked at the persimmon she had bitten into, placing it slowly on the ground.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to. I only took a bite. Mr. Bull, please go around me.”
Saying words she wasn’t sure the bull could understand, she stepped back again, preparing to avoid a confrontation with the giant bull.
Rin — uh —
The peculiar cry rang out again. The giant bull didn’t seem to heed her warning and charged at her once more.
This is bad, she thought, quickly running away. But the bull was unusually strong, moving even faster.
The thick horns, carrying immense momentum, grazed past her side, almost hitting her fragile body. The force of the bull’s collision caused her to stagger, nearly losing her balance.
This won’t do. After steadying herself, she quickly searched for a place to hide.
Her toes pushed off the ground, and she leaped, landing after clearing some obstacles, finally standing on a higher rock.
At this moment, the giant bull turned and charged again.
The young lady jumped aside to avoid the bull’s charge, while the bull crashed into the rock.
She thought the bull would smash its head against the rock, but unexpectedly, the rock cracked and shattered into pieces under the bull’s impact.
Looking at the grayish-white powder still on the bull’s horns, she felt a shiver, imagining how much worse it would be if she had been hit directly.
A wave of fear rose in her heart, and a cold sweat broke out on her forehead.
And at this moment, the giant bull charged at her again, its roar like a mournful wail, its momentum like a thunderous strike, powerful and tremulous.
PS: Memories will return, it won’t take long.
