Chapter 62

“Well done. Filling the room with gas is a very effective method. Blocking the door and incapacitating them with paralysis poison without unnecessary conflict was a good judgment.”

“Wow.”

Pas Tell staggered to her feet from the sewer floor. She shivered slightly and rubbed her arms with her hands.

“They were really bad people.”

How could they commit indiscriminate poison terror?

“Waaah!”

She glanced fearfully at the tightly shut iron door.

“What kind of criminals do that?”

“There is a high likelihood they are radical demons. Not all demons are like this, but some act out their hatred and grudges in innocent ways. Like poisoning the drinking water of human students.”

“Ugh.”

Despite her fear, she felt a sense of duty as a member of the student council. She had to protect her friends from such despicable criminals.

Pas Tell carefully drew her sword and opened the iron door. Yellow paralysis gas seeped out through the crack. Breathing in the gas made her cough.

“Oh no!”

Gas! Gas!

“Pas Tell, save me!”

Panicking, she shut the door again.

She hurriedly took a breath of the not-so-clear sewer air.

“Hah! Hah!”

The demon was bewildered.

“You’re not getting it. Why do you keep pretending to be a normal human when you sprinkle magic stone powder on your meals every day?”

“Ah! You’re right!”

I’m fine!

That meant it was okay to use the highly likely to cause accidents paralysis poison in a glass vial considering only its convenience.

Feeling more confident, Pas Tell slowly opened the door again and boldly inhaled the yellow gas seeping out.

“Not working, cough!”

Cough! Cough!

It was not fresh air; it was a fit of coughing!

It felt like she was trying to breathe during a sandstorm!

“That doesn’t mean I want you to inhale it on purpose…”

“Ugh, right.”

She covered her nose with her white sleeve and opened the door. The demon leaning against the door collapsed and made a noise.

“Wah!”

Pas Tell flinched and looked at the demon. It wasn’t moving at all; it was completely paralyzed.

“Did… did it die?”

She poked the demon with the edge of her sword. There was no response.

“Oh no?”

Did I just commit murder?

“Since you inhaled the gas in a sealed room, the paralysis was too much, leading to a state of shock.”

“Is that… so?”

While poking the demon, she shifted her gaze to the inside of the room. The yellow gas was still escaping, but the interior was still shrouded in a hazy yellow.

She swallowed nervously.

“Is everyone down?”

The fallen furniture and human silhouettes in the confusion also showed no signs of movement.

Phew.

Pas Tell unnecessarily wiped her forehead. Then, with a proud expression, she looked down at the wicked criminals.

“Bad criminals! Do you now understand? You won’t win—ever! You are one of the all-time worst criminals who plan heinous acts like poison terror!”

She determinedly pointed at herself.

“Knowing that, I, Pas Tell of the student council, confronted you without a moment’s hesitation! I knew justice was on my side!”

Feeling proud.

So many friends, and I’m suffering like this.

So don’t keep your distance, thinking I’m someone creepy like Craft; let’s be friends. I don’t know what makes this pink Pas Tell different inside and outside.

Preaching while intoxicated with the feeling of victory, Pas Tell scanned the gas inside.

“Could prolonged inhalation of this gas lead to serious side effects?”

“That degree of effect won’t happen. It was designed considering the scenario where you accidentally broke the glass vial while sleeping, causing others to get swept up in it.”

Huh.

Suddenly feeling like a troublemaker.

Just as Pas Tell was about to argue, she recalled spilling frying flour while watching the demon cook this morning and getting slightly scolded.

Maybe I am a bit of a troublemaker…?

She subtly changed the subject.

“Then, since it’s okay for a long time, let’s leave these people here.”

She pushed the demon by the door. It lightly slumped inside the room. She shut the door tightly to complete the gas chamber.

“I’ll call the guards to have them imprisoned.”

She dusted off her hands and picked up the magic stone lantern she had placed in the corner of the sewer. When she turned on the lantern’s light, the sewer brightened.

Suddenly, there was a commotion from the other side of the sewer passage. A huge swarm of mice filled the corridor.

“Huh?”

Pas Tell’s eyes widened.

“It’s demons! My squeaky friends…!”

They were coming to take revenge, feeding on my blood and flesh.

“Ahhh!”

“If you want to bring the guards, you need to clean the surroundings. Adjust the population.”

“Uh.”

Pas Tell calmed herself at the demon’s calm voice. Looking around the terrain, she jumped up against the wall. She embedded her sword at a height that the mice couldn’t reach and spun around to land on it.

She looked down at the approaching horde of mice.

“Come on, my squeaky friends.”

It’s time to greet my knife friend.

A knife rushed out from her grasp.

The silver trajectory swept through the sewer.

#

Visited Alesia Bellevue’s personal dormitory.

It was a dorm guarded by servants and soldiers. The spear of soldiers surrounded the dorm like prison bars.

“After interrogating the invading demons, the captured ones said they were the vanguard, and there are more reinforcements on the way.”

Pas Tell sat with her arms crossed at the terrace’s tea table.

“Since we’ve already caught sight of their plan, we can prevent indiscriminate terror like contaminating drinking water, but it will be difficult to completely block an assassination attempt against you.”

“That’s okay. You don’t need to worry about it.”

The silver-haired girl in front of her scooped sugar with a teaspoon. The white powder sprinkled into the black tea and mixed.

“It was something I expected from the time I transferred. I didn’t know they would mobilize demons, though.”

“An assassination? Do you hold any grudge against someone?”

Pas Tell tilted her head.

Alesia smiled faintly and didn’t provide an explanation.

The answer came instead from the table next to hers.

“It’s probably a succession dispute.”

Melissa took a sip of tea. The teacup was placed onto the saucer silently and elegantly.

She had sneakily followed along; I wonder where she heard the news from. Why is she acting like that again?

Pas Tell pointed to the seat beside her.

“How about sitting at the same table?”

Melissa shook her head.

“Don’t mind me. I like it here.”

“Oh really?”

That’s a pretty unique taste.

Alesia narrowed her eyes. Her silver pupils bore into the blonde girl.

“A child swayed by her mother’s words.”

“Huh?”

Pas Tell’s eyes widened.

Sudden provocation.

Melissa frowned.

“It’s not being swayed; it’s following what it’s right to respect from my mother. You, Belamont, sharing the same table is simply a waste of time.”

Alesia bowed her head silently and surveyed Pas Tell’s shadow. Upon confirming that Camelot’s shoes stepped on Craft’s shadow, she smirked.

“A child who can’t even keep a promise to her beloved mother.”

“Wah!”

Pas Tell’s mouth dropped open.

I guess the relationship isn’t great; it’s really bad.

Or not? Maybe they’re actually on good terms?

Curious about the reactions, she glanced back.

Melissa’s eyebrows were twitching.

“Pas Tell got permission from her mother. Unlike you, who was chased to the academy by your elder brother, I communicate well with my mom. I can resolve misunderstandings verbally.”

Alesia’s lips curled into a smile.

“In the end, a child swayed by her mother’s words.”

“Wah!”

Melissa was speaking valiantly, but Alesia was lazily shooting down her remarks.

Melissa’s breathing grew rough. She couldn’t hide her agitation any longer, and her voice quivered slightly.

“I’m not swayed; I’m following what should rightly be respected. How many times do I need to say this for you to understand? It may be too much to expect understanding from someone as vulgar in speech and rude in attitude as you.”

Whoa, what a strong choice of words.

Feeling a bit like watching popcorn, Pas Tell looked back at Alesia. Isn’t this a bit harsh?

Alesia pointed to Melissa’s shoes, which had stepped on Craft’s shadow.

“A child who doesn’t even listen to her mother.”

That was such a vague rebuttal.

But it seemed effective since Melissa huffed slightly. Her face turned red, and her reaction of being unable to calm her breath felt very childish.

“Thus, what you’re saying is—”

Alesia shrugged.

“In the end, a child swayed by her mother’s words.”

Melissa’s body trembled. Frustrated and feeling insulted, she exhaled roughly and suddenly turned her head away.

“Enough. I can’t have a conversation with someone as vulgar as you.”

Then she elegantly took a sip of her tea, as if ignoring the situation. Alesia also chuckled and did the same.

A silence fell.

While watching, Pas Tell opened her mouth.

“Wah wah.”

Is this a high-level standoff between the southern and northern factions vying for political power in the empire?

It’s so sophisticated that pure Pas Tell can’t quite grasp it~.

After alternating looks between the two, she followed suit and took a sip of tea.

Gulp, gulp.

“Hah.”

I guess it’s sweet, probably because I added a lot of sugar.

After downing it, she set the teacup down.

Clatter.

Eyes turned to her.

Pas Tell sprinkled magic stone powder on a cookie in the plate and munched on it. Then alternating looks, she made a sad face.

“Hey, guys! Don’t fight over me!”

Clenching her fists, she declared passionately.

“Pas Tell is, Pas Tell is! Everyone’s friend! You can’t monopolize me!”

A heartfelt shout.

“Huh?”

Melissa looked bewildered by the sudden comment.

Alesia blinked as well.

Yes! Great!

The fighting atmosphere has mostly disappeared!

I’m definitely in the top tier for making friends!

Pas Tell ate another cookie.

Munch munch.

“Alesia, even if you say the assassination is fine, as a member of the student council, I can’t just sit back; I’ll increase enforcement at the academy for a while. At least until the one-on-one tournament is over.”

Wow, but this cookie is so delicious!

With her eyes shining, Pas Tell spoke with cookie crumbs dusted across her mouth, looking back and forth between the two.

“And! If you’re going to fight over me, then I’d prefer something delicious as a gift! Like this cookie! In that sense!”

She pointed her finger towards Alesia.

“Alesia, one win!”

She clapped her hands together.

“Congratulations! We’ve grown closer! Wow!”

Alesia became a bit taken aback.

Then she glanced at Melissa.

“Is she always like this?”

Melissa thought for a moment and nodded.

“Yes.”

Huh?

Pas Tell glanced between the two.

Then, as the smell of the cookies began to stimulate her senses, she simply grabbed two cookies and stuffed them into her mouth whole.

Greedy wah!

Munch munch, munch munch.

The dry and plain outer part crumbled. The moist interior burst forth with sweetness.

Her pink eyes sparkled.

“Wow, it’s really delicious!”
