Chapter 24: Reward Pages
Bai Ling held the limp Yuan Xiaoling in her arms, feeling surprised, curious, and amused.
She was genuinely astonished by the precise control over water elements and the application of skills, which had reached such a level. She didn’t know if it was part of a premeditated plan or a sudden stroke of genius.
If it was the latter, then that person was truly the king of inspiration.
As for this strange sense of competitiveness, Bai Ling didn’t understand it either. Was it because she boasted to her roommate that she would definitely win?
She pinched Yuan Xiaoling’s cheeks and sighed, “If you had just told me earlier and asked nicely, I might have agreed to help you put on a show.”
Like wearing this cheerleader outfit that had already torn… Hmm, when did it tear? Anyway, it doesn’t matter. The point is, dressed like this, raising her hands high, and sweet-talking her with honeyed words, she probably would have agreed.
“I’m not going to throw the match,” Yuan Xiaoling mumbled half-asleep, “I want to win fair and square… wu… huu… Zzzz”
She was so exhausted that she could fall asleep while leaning on someone. But even in this state, her little mouth instinctively retaliated in a spiral.
For such a seemingly soft little mouth, why was it so sharp when speaking?
Bai Ling stared at Yuan Xiaoling’s cherry lips, suddenly feeling an urge.
“Mmm… hmm? Mmm…”
They were quite sweet, strawberry-flavored, no wonder she usually liked drinking strawberry juice.
A few minutes later, Bai Ling placed the blonde-haired maiden on the bed and tucked her in with a blanket.
“Good night.”
Yuan Xiaoling had a dream.
In the dream, there was a blurry bridge over the river, its full name seemed to be the Linjiang Bridge of Tianhai City, with many bodies lying all over the bridge.
“Turtle, too crazy! Lost it completely.”
A blonde big-breasted beauty carefully walked forward along the broken bridge, marveling aloud.
With golden long hair, a sweet and cute little face, an unstoppable proud Dabeitu, and long, white legs… Hmm, she looked very much like herself.
No, she was herself.
In the dream, Yuan Xiaoling walked down to the bridge and saw a woman drenched in blood but already lying on the ground. The woman had long hair, but half of it was dyed red by blood, and she was slim.
In a flash, she rushed up and mocked:
“Yo yo, isn’t that Bai Ling? What happened after a few days? So bad?”
“About to die? Seemingly, seemingly, meow.”
“Die slowly, let me get a bun and dip it to eat.”
After mocking, she quietly stepped back a few steps, spacing out as if communicating with something in her head.
“No way, only this much reward? Zero stars risk? I came here risking my life to mock, standing so close!”
“What? No danger? How can that be? If Bai Ling hears, she’ll come find me in a few days when she gets better, won’t that be dangerous for me?”
“…Won’t come find me anymore? Hey, wait.”
Then, she darted back in one step, coming back to the side of the white-haired woman.
“Hey hey, Bai Ling, you’re not really dead, are you? Don’t joke around.”
“You’re the main character, how can the main character die? The plot’s only halfway through.”
“Don’t seem in front of me…”
The dream suddenly cut off.
“Mmm… um~ ya!”
Woke up, habitually making the sound of stretching.
The sky outside the window was already bright, and she was the only one in the dormitory. Her two roommates might not have returned, or they were already in class now.
There were three messages on her mobile phone.
[Gu Hui: Xiao Ning, it’s okay not to attend Monday’s class, rest a bit more. We’ve already excused you.]
[Qiao Lili: Tears.]
Yuan Xiaoling blinked, confused.
What does ‘tears’ mean? Did you two watch movies next door last night?
The last one was from Bai Ling—
[I don’t know when you’ll wake up, so I won’t bring lunch at noon. Let me know if anything happens.]
“What do you mean ‘don’t know when I’ll wake up,’ as if I’m some big lazy bug… huh, it’s already afternoon?”
Yuan Xiaoling checked the time and confirmed it was 3 PM in the afternoon, not 3 AM in the morning—besides, it wouldn’t be bright at 3 AM anyway.
“It must be Bai Ling’s doing!”
If not for her, how could she sleep until late afternoon?
That’s right, all because of Bai Ling, not only did she make her sleep this long, but also gave her a weird dream. That dream was too strange; Yuan Xiaoling still felt terrified thinking about it now.
Turning over in bed, reflecting on her own behavior from last night, even Yuan Xiaoling couldn’t help but sigh in melancholy.
And—
“Yesterday was Sunday, the weekly task didn’t refresh, suffered a beating for nothing.”
The weekly task had already refreshed, Yuan Xiaoling had just seen it.
[Task Name: Ssssss.
The female protagonist has improved in strength and experience, and with new companions, her confidence has doubled. As the villainess, how can one just stand idly by watching her swagger confidently.
Task Requirement: Shock the female protagonist, letting her know there are people beyond people, skies beyond skies. Reward: Fourth-tier breakthrough fragment (2/3)]
Look, if it refreshed last night, wouldn’t this have been completed already? Unfortunately, everything ended at midnight.
“All Bai Ling’s fault,” Yuan Xiaoling gritted her teeth in anger, “Why did she come so early!”
Before eight o’clock, the sky wasn’t even dark yet!
Of course, she didn’t know that Bai Ling decided to come early after seeing too many videos of Lei Lei in her cheerleader uniform online.
“And the rewards too, why is completing this only two-thirds? I feel like I’ve done so many tasks,” Yuan Xiaoling said to the air, “System, did you take my kickbacks?”
[Ding dong, please do not speculate baselessly, this system keeps records of each mission’s rewards.]
“Is that so, let me see.”
Last night, Bai Ling said the same thing to her, sounding very authoritative.
[Ding dong, please wait, the system is exporting data.]
“Does it need to export for such a small amount?” Yuan Xiaoling urged, “Export faster.”
Hmm… hmm… hmm… Not done yet?
“Is it finished exporting?”
[Finished… Export complete, but…]
The usually formulaic system actually hesitated, almost swayed by Yuan Xiaoling’s words.
“What’s wrong?”
[The export results are out, please check them yourself, host.]
A table appeared in her mind, listing chronologically the rewards Yuan Xiaoling received for completing missions since her rebirth.
[XX23 year April 28th, completed rookie task, reward Third-tier Water Dragon LORD.]
[XX23 year May…]
“There’s nothing wrong, it’s only these few times, you indeed didn’t take my kickbacks,” Yuan Xiaoling was somewhat curious, “But with only these few records, why did it take so long to export?”
[Please pay attention to the page numbers below.]
Page numbers?
Yuan Xiaoling found it strange, “My mission history is only these few times, not even filling up a page, how could there be…”
Before she finished speaking, she clearly saw the page number written below—37/37.
A full thirty-seven pages, and this was the last page.
“How is that possible!”
Yuan Xiaoling tried to flip back a page, and sure enough, she could. On the last line of page 36, it clearly read—
[XX33 year June 1st, completed task: Mock the dying female protagonist. Reward: Sweet and delicious kiss (strawberry flavor)]
Instantly, the scenes from the dream flashed in her mind—the broken bridge, the river water stained red with corpses, the white-haired woman lying motionless on the ground… And the strange memories she saw in her dreams after being knocked unconscious several times before.
Yuan Xiaoling broke out in a cold sweat.
“System, I suddenly have a very terrifying guess.”
