Chapter 60

“Um… So you’re staying at her place to recuperate now?”

“Yes, sister. It’s also what she arranged for me.”

“No wonder… When the factory owner told me I was promoted, I was shocked. But seeing your letter, I went along with it. However, it’s too relaxed here, and the salary is unusually high, which makes me feel a bit uneasy…”

“Don’t worry, sister. Miss Aivana wouldn’t care at all. She’s so wealthy; 100 Su Pounds dropping on the ground wouldn’t make her bend down to pick it up.”

“… Xia’er, tell me honestly, has Aivana been bullying you? Or is she… This morning, I saw her, and she seemed quite frightening…”

Li Qi sat on the stool, hesitating, and eventually didn’t say anything.

Although she didn’t know who that noble lady Aivana was, what Xia’er said made it clear that she was being taken care of by that noble lady no matter how you looked at it!

The observer sees clearly, the participant is confused. That Aivana must surely be eyeing Xia’er!

“Xia’er, what do you think of her?” Li Qi asked hesitantly.

“How should I put it? Poker-faced, likes to hide her true feelings, and lacks life experience,” Xia’er thought of Aivana charging down to pin Shulun to stop her from escaping, adding, “She’s also kind.”

After Xia’er finished reminiscing and looked up at Li Qi, she found Li Qi looking back at her with a comforting smile.

“What’s wrong?” Xia’er reached out to touch the mask and asked, “Is the mask too ugly?”

“It’s fine,” Li Qi reached out and playfully ruffled Xia’er’s head, “If she’s a good person, then continue to get along well.”

Then, Li Qi remembered something and reminded, “But the gap in your status is too great. You can’t neglect your studies; you must go to university. Do you understand? If we start saving money now, we can save enough for the first installment of tuition.”

Xia’er: “??”

Xia’er always felt that her sister’s words sounded a bit strange, but she couldn’t quite pinpoint why.

“It’s okay, I’ll save up enough money, and we can go to An Su together,” Xia’er continued. “We could open a flower shop or something. You can be the manager, and I can help after class.”

Hearing this, Li Qi’s hand paused slightly on Xia’er’s head, then nodded in agreement, “Mm-hm…”

The two chatted in the store for about three hours until it was almost closing time, and then Xia’er left.

Li Qi now lived upstairs above the jewelry store, so she could go home without leaving the building.

But there was only one bed up there, and wearing the face mask made breathing difficult, making it impossible to sleep. To avoid infection, Xia’er decided to return to Aivana’s place.

All the way back, Xia’er felt incredibly relaxed.

She felt that calm daily life would soon return.

But to protect this peaceful daily life, she needed to become stronger to resist the unknown dangers that might come.

After all, this wasn’t a peaceful world.

Back at the manor, Aivana found Xia’er a guest room and gave her some of her own clothes.

After washing up, Xia’er lay on the bed, planning how to approach Adelle tomorrow.

Adelle’s teacher had caused such a big incident; Adelle couldn’t possibly escape investigation. She probably wouldn’t be seen for some time.

After hearing about the nature of Derton Manor last night, Xia’er felt that High Priestess Yulis was unlikely to be a member of Derton Manor.

Feeling at a loss, Xia’er went to sleep. The next day, she was woken up by Aivana and urged to change her clothes.

Once Xia’er was dressed and ready, she wore the mask and got into the carriage with Aivana.

The two arrived at the bustling downtown street, where the carriage stopped.

In front of a delicate little building, a long queue of over ten people had already formed at the entrance.

“Xia’er, check if I did anything wrong when I meet the patients,” Aivana said, looking at the crowd in front of her, clearly feeling a bit nervous. She pulled Xia’er along as she walked and continued, “These are all patients recommended by the Redemption Society.”

Xia’er curiously observed the people in line as she followed Aivana into the building.

In this era, a psychologist wasn’t a common profession. People had little understanding of psychological or mental issues. Many were merely trying it out and came here on a whim.

Because the consultation fee was particularly cheap, only 5 pence, many people were curious. And once they heard that a beautiful young lady was seeing patients, their interest was immediately piqued, and they lined up right away.

Aivana entered a large office, while Xia’er sat at a small desk behind her, flipping through some notes labeled “psychologist” — these were given to her by Aivana.

Aivana had already reviewed these materials; now it was her moment to practice.

As the first patient was brought in by a nurse, Xia’er perked up her ears, listening attentively.

However, as each patient entered, engaged in conversation, and left, Xia’er’s expression beneath her mask began to change, becoming increasingly peculiar.

Patient A: “I think my husband left me because I’m too ugly…”

Aivana: “No, you’re not ugly. You’re just average.”

Patient B: “I’ll never see you again, psychologist! How dare you tell me I need to lose weight!”

Aivana: “Well… based on your weight?”

Patient B: “Go to hell! What kind of psychologist would say their patient is fat!”

Aivana: “One with good vision.”

As each patient stormed out, Xia’er finally couldn’t take it anymore. She walked up behind Aivana, grabbed her white coat, and lifted her up.

“What’s wrong?” Aivana turned her head, looking innocently at Xia’er, asking, “I feel like I’m doing pretty well.”

“No, you’re a psychologist. How can you make every patient leave angry?” Xia’er took a deep breath, sat down where Aivana had been, and said, “Let me show you how a psychologist should act.”

Aivana stood up, sitting expressionlessly in Xia’er’s previous seat. Before the next patient knocked, she said sadly, “I think a psychologist should help patients actually get better, not just feel better…”

Tap-tap-tap—

Aivana’s murmurs were interrupted by the knocking. Xia’er looked at the newcomer, her masked face revealing a smile. She gestured to the chair in front of her and softly said, “Please sit.”

A middle-aged noblewoman, whose makeup was smudged from crying, sat down and said, “I’m feeling very sad now. My husband goes out every day to find prostitutes, comes back and beats me, and then…”

“Doctor, how can I feel better?”

Xia’er took a deep breath, clenched her right fist, and slowly said, “If you don’t shut your mouth, wipe your tears, and go home and get a divorce right away, I’m going to hit you!”

“How can you do that!”

Bang!

Xia’er silently stood up, pulled Aivana back up, and sat down again.

Well, she wasn’t suited to be a psychologist either.

But when Aivana, suppressing a laugh, sat back down, the next patient caught Aivana and Xia’er’s attention.

Adelle?

A teenage girl wearing a silver raven mask sat nervously in front of Aivana, stuttering, “Doctor… hello, my name is Abal.”

Xia’er’s lip twitched.

Child, your medical license is still hanging on your chest.

But Xia’er was also curious inside. Why did Adelle come? Didn’t she need an investigation?
