Chapter 559: After Awakening
When Lolan Hill woke up, she felt as if she had lived through a millennium in a long, dark dream.
She slowly sat up from the bed, looked at her hands, and touched the blanket and clothes in front of her before turning her gaze to the side.
This seemed to be someone’s bedroom, decorated elegantly and warmly, with a small green potted plant on the windowsill, a light blue flower pot that was smooth and glossy. A few red berries dotted the small green branches, adding a touch of liveliness and cuteness.
Leaning against the headboard of the bed, she sat for a while before gradually becoming fully awake, slowly recalling what happened before she fell asleep.
If this was deduced correctly, this should be Byness’s residence. Her gaze shifted to the pale wooden window beside the bed, outside of which was a bright world of noon.
The summer wind blew through the dazzling sunlight into the room, bringing a warm and gentle sensation, and the curtains fluttered in the wind and then slowly fell back.
It was very quiet all around, only the faint sound of cicadas could be heard from the mountains in the distance.
Still summer, it seems I didn’t sleep for too long. Lolan Hill thought to herself as she moved her body and found the slippers under the bed, put them on, and slowly got up, walking around the room.
After a long period of sleep, the blood circulation in her body was inevitably not smooth, but after walking for a while, she gradually recovered completely. At this point, she could hear more sounds.
The wind seemed to have become her eyes and ears; even without personally going there, she could still “see” and “hear” many scenes.
Yes, this is indeed a small courtyard behind Water Bottle Palace. There is also an invisible barrier protecting this place around the courtyard. Not many people were inside, with two nuns staying downstairs.
One of them was in the kitchen, sitting by the stove cooking something, stirring occasionally with a ladle, seemingly preparing mung bean porridge to cool down and relieve the heat.
The other nun leaned against the door with a silver sword scabbard, looking relaxed, but this sword-wielding nun probably had Sequence 8 strength, which was no ordinary feat.
Under the sunlight, a rowan tree in the courtyard had fresh green leaves with a few yellow-green fruits visible, though they weren’t big yet, swaying slightly in the summer breeze.
After sitting in the room for a while, Lolan Hill got up, opened the door, and went downstairs along the stairs.
The wooden stairs made rhythmic sounds when stepped on, and Lolan Hill could even feel the slight elasticity of the floorboards beneath her feet. The hallway of the room was different from the bedroom upstairs, with a cool air and much cooler atmosphere.
When Lolan Hill, wearing a white nightgown, reached the first floor, the two nuns were already waiting for her. They had already heard the clear sound of her coming down the stairs.
“Good afternoon, Scholar Lolan Hill.” The two nuns bowed slightly and then stood up.
“Lady Byness instructed us to take care of and protect you. It has been nearly a month since your last episode,” one of them said.
Only a month? A faint relief rose in her heart. She was afraid they would say it had been many years, which would have troubled Lolan Hill.
“Thank you.” Lolan Hill first expressed her gratitude, then asked:
“Where is Lady Byness now?”
“This situation is a bit complicated. We will explain it to you step by step. Do you need a bath or something to eat?” One of the nuns in the kitchen suggested. She had soft golden hair and appeared mature and voluptuous.
“Yes, thank you.”
Seeing the weak-looking silver-haired girl agree, the nun led the way ahead.
“Please follow me. The bathroom is inside on the first floor.”
Opening the heavy copper door with engraved patterns, a thirty-square-meter bathroom came into view, with most of the space occupied by a large bathtub. The bottom of the bathtub was white and blue enamel, clean and spotless.
“Turn this bottle, and hot water will flow out. If it’s too hot, you can open the adjacent bottle, and cold water will come out,” the nun told Lolan Hill before stepping out.
The silver-haired girl turned the water bottle carved with shells and leaves, and hot water flowed out, slowly filling the bathtub and emitting a warm steam.
Feeling it was about right, Lolan Hill took off her clothes, stepped in, and slowly soaked her body, washing her long silver hair and body.
The hot water made her fair skin slightly reddish, and her nerves gradually relaxed.
After more than thirty minutes, feeling she had washed enough, Lolan Hill stood up from the bathtub, dried herself, and put on a pure white dress with light green edges and waistband from the storage ring.
Then she put on light green strapped sandals, tidied up in front of the mirror, shook her slightly damp silver hair, and walked out of the bathroom.
When she arrived at the front hall, the nun who had been waiting for her was still there.
“Do you want some ice-sugar mung bean soup? It has cooled down and isn’t hot anymore.” On the round table in the front hall was a light blue porcelain bowl filled with cooked mung beans, with only a little sugar added for a refreshing sweetness.
“Yes, thank you.”
Lolan Hill sat down and sipped the sweet and cool liquid, which flowed down her throat into her body.
While she was drinking the soup, the nun slowly recounted the changes during this period.
Firstly, after the sudden incident that night, Byness quickly took control of the situation. Then, Audis called in tens of thousands of Holy Lance Knights to seal off the entire Holy Mountain, conducting thorough inspections. The gray-haired man who had performed strange magic on the scene was subdued by Byness on the spot.
Although he had considerable strength and seemed to have hidden techniques unnoticed by others, under the watchful eye of Sequence 9, all his tricks were in vain.
Soon, items on his person were searched, and he admitted that his ancestors had received a favor from a witch, and he had come to the Holy Land to seek revenge.
According to the characteristics of the item, the church reviewed past records and found its origin. It was an error caused by the fanatical and biased policies during the Candlelight Sect era.
As for how to deal with this criminal, the church’s upper echelons hadn’t yet reached a consensus and temporarily confined him in the Judgment Bureau’s prison.
Additionally, during Audis’s tenure as the Scepter Priest of the Ten Sword Palace, relying on the power of the Ten Sword Palace and the support of numerous knight groups under his command, he quickly gathered evidence against Xibis and publicly disclosed it at the recent assembly, causing an uproar within the church.
Due to the involvement of so many people, many high-ranking officials in the Twelve Palaces were implicated, and they began to deny the evidence, believing it was fabricated by Audis for personal reasons.
However, with the full support of Audis and Byness, these pieces of evidence were still made public, causing significant chaos. But in terms of combat capability, not only did they have a group of high-ranking Extraordinary Beings like Byness, but they also had substantial support from the Holy Lance Knights.
Soon, these people were imprisoned and uniformly detained in the Judgment Bureau awaiting sentencing. After such a thorough cleansing, many positions within the Twelve Palaces became vacant, and the appointment of new personnel had to wait for the Pope to decide.
Three days later, the election of the Pope would commence.
