Chapter 689 – Long Night Golden Radiance Part Four
“The power of the karma flames…” Daniel’s expression suddenly changed, “This, how could it be the power of the karma flames…”
“Indeed it is the karma flames… the power of blood sacrifice… No, that’s not right, it’s above that…”
Hearing their words, I couldn’t help but furrow my brows: “What do you—”
Boom—!!!
Suddenly, there was a loud explosion beside me. In the corner of my vision, holy spears pierced her front and back, and even her arms were cut off, swaying as she nearly fell. Miss Mesher’s body was engulfed in raging flames. The scorching wind swept over, instantly pushing Karl back several meters. Daniel and Olivia covered their faces with their arms. Amidst the rolling flames, I squinted my eyes.
“Kill her, find the true relic—”
“Can we still find it after killing her?!”
“Damn it…”
In the brief exchange between the two clerics, the woman pulled out the holy spear from her chest and thrust it towards the large bell above her head. A loud clang echoed as the golden bell tilted sharply under the impact and shattered, scattering golden fragments everywhere. As the light faded, she pulled out another spear from behind her, blood dripping along with it. Karma flames burned around her. In the next moment, she suddenly turned around and threw the holy spear at us!
Whoosh—
I quickly dodged to the side. The spear, with its faint golden glow, barely grazed my ear before streaking past me, the explosive sound of the air tearing causing pain in my ears. My head buzzed. Flames illuminated the scene ahead, turning the ground black and cracked. Crimson blood snakes slithered around Miss Mesher. She spoke calmly, “Kill me? You…”
Whizz—
The whistling sound was like a crossbow bolt, and in an instant, the woman burst out of the flames, appearing before Daniel with a fierce wind. She lifted her burning arm, rapidly recovering, and pointed her bone-tipped fingers at the man’s forehead: “Think…”
Buzz—
The slight sound of a miracle echoed. Golden light surged from her fingertips, clear as a voice echoing in the valley, reaching my ears: “who you are.”
I turned my head, eyes wide open. This moment was too short, too sudden. The woman’s speed was breathtaking. Her silver hair fluttered in the wind, her simple white-and-gold robe billowing. Burning debris flew around. Before her feet had even fully touched the ground, the man’s shocked expression froze in the wind. By the time I reacted, intense, direct light shot out from her bone-tipped fingers.
“Quickly dodge—”
Whizz.
A faint, almost imperceptible hum, like an unheard insect’s chirp.
Daniel managed to turn his head slightly, moving his brow away by a fraction.
A dazzling, finger-wide laser, silently piercing through his left eye and into his brain.
Who do you think you are…
No impact, no cry of pain, no blood. The woman’s calm yet urgent, cold voice had just formed complete sentences in my mind when Olivia’s hand hadn’t even risen. That intense light had already pierced through Daniel’s skull and shot into the distant darkness.
He hadn’t even had time to fall.
The golden glow on his body flickered and then dimmed.
“Daniel—”
“Cursed heretic!”
Bang!
Her pupils glowed blue, and countless irregular, sharp ice shards, crookedly sprouted from my palm, emerging from the shattered ice crystals, snaking forward. Pfft, pfft, pfft, they pierced through Miss Mesher’s chest and lower abdomen. She only staggered slightly, her cold, red eyes tilting toward me. Just one glance sent shivers down my spine.
Buzz!
The sound of a miracle reverberated again. The karma flames around the woman flickered and vanished along with the crimson blood snakes, and golden light suddenly bloomed.
Ahead, the plain man finally let out a desperate scream, clutching his left eye as he fell. Behind him, Karl came rushing in, attempting to ambush the woman from mid-air. However, she swung her hand, severing the ice shards stuck in her body, and with a twist of her body, she punched, her fist glowing brilliantly. Several white feathers drifted down with the wind, striking Karl’s chest—
Bang!
The air seemed to tremble for a moment. The shockwave spread outward. The figure attacking was sent flying backward, curled up like a shrimp. On the other side, Olivia, with a sorrowful and furious expression, pointed her fingers at Miss Mesher, golden light flaring at her fingertips. Two white, thin beams of light, identical to those from Miss Mesher, shot out silently.
Whoosh—
Miss Mesher’s golden light dissipated instantly, and flames reignited. She didn’t turn around, but as if she had eyes on her back, she crouched suddenly, dodging the attack. The white light brushed past her silver hair, creating two-inch holes. In the next moment, she swung her arm backward, several blood snakes shooting from her fully recovered fingertips, wrapping around the unprepared Olivia and carrying her high into the sky.
“Aaaahhhhhhh!!!”
In an instant, Daniel writhed on the ground in agony, blood spurting from between his fingers covering his eyes. Far away, Karl collided with burnt trees and crashed to the ground with a thud. I heard his shouts: “Miracle of the Sanction! Light of Nephiloda! Who are you?!”
The woman ignored his cries, stood up, clenched her fist, and her red skirt swirled gracefully. Frost power condensed with the wind from her punch. I gathered all my strength and clashed with her.
Bang—
Flames and frost exploded before my eyes. The shocking force pressed down from her right fist. I couldn’t help but groan, retreating several steps in the chaotic wind. After stopping, I felt my entire arm trembling. Through my partially obstructed vision, Miss Mesher also retreated several steps. Her high heels left deep marks on the scorched ground. She immediately straightened her body, her icy gaze piercing through the mist like a sharp knife directed at me.
Miracle…
The woman just used a miracle.
One that Nero once used, which pierced through my throat…
“Cough.”
I couldn’t help but touch my neck, lightly coughed, shook my numb right hand, feeling the dull pain from my knuckles. I glanced at the ordinary man lying on the ground nearby, his cries weakening. I took a deep breath, exhaled.
“Why do you have a miracle…”
I subconsciously asked this question, but my mind was already in chaos, making it hard to think effectively anymore.
I thought I was just here to stop the clown, kill him and end everything. But the current situation seemed far more complex and unpredictable than I had imagined. What’s going on? This doesn’t make any sense. What is that damned heretic planning… What is the Church up to…
What exactly is that damn bead for, what are they trying to do with it…
Everything is messed up…
Is everyone lying to me…
“Miss Silviga, I want to confirm something with you.”
The woman spoke, stepping forward, her red dress fluttering in the flames: “Back when you were in the royal city, facing Sister Theresa. You killed her when she transformed into a half-angel. I went there later and heard some rumors, I want to ask you about it.”
Her words still echoed in my ears as her figure approached in the flames, one step, two steps…
What should I do now…
How long has the clown been gone?
I can’t stay here any longer…
A flash of golden light, Olivia appeared again, disheveled, casually throwing a light blade at the woman, then quickly retreating while holding Daniel. The woman dodged sideways, didn’t stop, and didn’t chase after them, continuing to walk towards me.
“She didn’t use any miracles when fighting you. No one in the royal city saw anyone using miracles. Sister Theresa never used any miracles against you, did she?”
“What do you want to say…”
“Yes or no.”
“So what if yes?”
“…Indeed, you’re still sticking to it.”
These words were no longer directed at me.
Miss Meser’s tone suddenly became somewhat sentimental: “Even until death, you still stick to that meaningless faith… There is indeed something different between us. You are stronger than me…”
“What do you really want to say…”
After asking this, the woman’s gaze suddenly turned sharp.
“I just want to tell you that she could have killed you.”
Buzz—
Golden light of the miracle once again shone on Miss Meser, intertwining with the crimson flames. Dark red blood serpents writhed within the glow, rapidly circling around Miss Meser. The golden and crimson halos intermingled, presenting a mysterious and bewitching dark brown hue under the night sky, slowly flowing.
!
Miracle, hellfire…
What’s going on, could she have been part of the church before?!
The invisible pressure approaching head-on made it feel difficult to breathe. I instinctively stepped back. In the eerie light, the slender figure of the woman suddenly loomed like a mountain, like a powerful demon god. She stretched out her right hand to the side, clenching her fist in mid-air—
Woo woo woo!
An ear-piercing sound, like a ghost’s wail, suddenly emerged as several blood serpents converged into the woman’s clenched palm, crying out mournfully on the scorched earth. Bloodlight flashed, quickly solidifying into sharp, massive dark red spikes beyond the woman’s outstretched arm. The material of the spikes and the red light flowing over them vaguely resembled the bead I had smashed.
This is…
“Surely this kind of power is something you’ve never seen before.”
The woman stopped about five meters away from me.
As her words fell, the spike disappeared almost instantaneously, unseen by the naked eye.
Whoosh—
A piercing scream followed by a gust of wind slapped my face. A strong sense of crisis made my hair stand on end. Instinctively, I started running, leaping back dozens of meters. Stunned, I watched Miss Meser who had moved further away. However, the terrifying attack I expected did not come.
Or rather, it wasn’t aimed at me.
“Olivia!!!”
Karl, clutching his chest and coughing blood in the distance, roared. On the other side, Olivia, who had retreated quite a distance, suddenly looked up, her eyes seemingly still dazed. In the next moment, Daniel, who was being dragged by her, covered in blood, barely alive, suddenly burst with strength, pushing her away: “Run—”
Bloodlight suddenly flashed.
Olivia stumbled from the push. In the next second, all I saw was a thick red line streaking past. The wind generated by the red line swept up the scorched mud, tearing through Daniel’s chest, creating a hole the size of a head.
!!!
I couldn’t see where the red line came from, but it was definitely the sharp spike released by Miss Meser. Its speed was almost comparable to Moon Step. The ordinary man widened his remaining eye and fell to his knees with a thud.
Damn it…
“Daniel!!!”
The fierce wind generated by the red line nearly knocked Olivia off her feet. She instantly teleported back, golden light flashing, reaching out to support the man.
He’s dying…
With a thud, I stepped out with Moon Step, appearing in front of them, shielding them. I shouted loudly, “Use a healing miracle!”
He can’t die yet, I still have questions to ask him…
In the corner of my eye, blood gushed out in large amounts from the huge hole in Daniel’s chest, staining the gold-and-white robe.
The ordinary man’s single eye was bloodshot, blood oozing from his nose and mouth. He knelt on the ground, grabbing Olivia’s hand, his voice hoarse and weak: “Pope… hasn’t… arrived yet…”
“Don’t speak, Daniel, don’t speak…”
Golden light and green dots of light burst from the sorrowful eyes of Olivia, surging toward the man’s wound, but it seemed too late.
“Cough—”
Daniel coughed up a large mouthful of blood.
He leaned weakly against Olivia’s leg, his eyes gradually losing their light: “Why… hasn’t he… arrived yet… Why…”
“Are we… just… discarded… pawns…”
