Chapter 541: Academy Letter
Lolan Hill approached the center of the venue slowly, holding a scythe. The old man who had been passionately speaking earlier was now lying on the ground, his body covered in bloodstains, and the light in his eyes gradually fading.
“Is it over?”
The ‘Red Hat’ shook off the blood on his sword blade and reinserted it into the hilt.
“Mm, everything has been taken care of,” the young lady’s voice was much more ethereal and tranquil than usual.
Looking at this quiet team member, ‘Red Hat’ knew she must be feeling terrible inside. Not everyone could kill without any psychological burden.
But someone had to do these things.
He no longer questioned the silver-haired girl, but stood still, waiting for the other two team members to arrive. From the sound, they seemed to also be finishing up.
‘Red Hat’ removed his already dark red gloves and threw them on the ground, covering the face of the elder. He stepped back a few steps, then a violent red flame rose, burning him.
Apart from the crackling sounds of the flames, the air was filled with a strong stench of blood. As the distant noises faded away, the other two team members slowly walked over.
The giant sword in ‘Black Bull’s’ hand was still stained with dried blood, which turned dark red near black under the heat of the flames. ‘The Makeup Artist’ wiped a strand of hair on his chest with a tissue, which seemed to have a bit of blood on it.
Seeing that all team members were present, ‘Red Hat’ snapped out of his thoughts,
“Let’s make a record first, then burn everything.”
After saying this, they began their work. An hour later, a huge white fireball descended from the sky, crashing into the valley, engulfing everything in intense heat.
Once everything was burned down, only a faint layer of white crystals remained on the ground, emitting a little heat and dim light.
After carefully checking several times to ensure nothing was left behind, the four of them left the area.
On the way back, Lolan Hill kept recalling the information she had heard, constantly analyzing it in her mind. Although she had been some distance from ‘Red Hat’ at the time, it didn’t affect her ability to gather the information.
She sighed at the dedication and madness of this group, unsure how to evaluate them.
After the Twilight Era, what exactly happened to turn the world into its current state? Did all the ancient humans really disappear? Without understanding the truth behind it, it would be difficult to unravel the present.
She needed to speed up this process.
“After we return this time, our mission will come to an end,” ‘Red Hat’ suddenly spoke, his voice carrying a hint of fatigue not often seen before.
“What comes after isn’t something our small team can easily handle; it involves many things, perhaps even high-ranking figures within the Church.”
“I’ll take everyone to Mount Karnriel to report, then we’ll all take some time to rest.”
After giving his instructions, they increased their pace, heading towards the distant and towering mountains to the east.
—
A week later, Lolan Hill returned once again to Mount Karnriel, having been away for over two months.
She first went to the headquarters of the Judgment Bureau to write a report, detailing her experiences during this time, and then waited for further arrangements by the higher-ups.
During these few days of waiting, she took off her dark robe and returned to the Water Bottle Palace, resuming her daily work.
Compared to her previous busyness, it was much calmer now. It was said that because a new batch of nuns was about to graduate, they would start internships, taking on many simple tasks.
“Yes, yes, just put it there. This bed is not aligned right, move it a bit.”
Bolly stood on a bucket, directing the new member below to arrange new items and organize the temple.
During Lolan Hill’s absence of over two months, she had smoothly become a senior, and her confidence had grown.
Occasionally glancing around, she saw Lolan Hill, dressed in a black uniform with a white scarf, enter the temple. The girl excitedly ran over.
“Lohil, you’re finally back~ I missed you so much while you were gone.”
She hugged the young lady, talking about recent events, mostly trivial matters, but without Lohil’s help, she had to do everything herself. She was especially worried about doing poorly, with no one to confide in or talk to.
But there was no choice. Without Lohil, who came from Emanas like her, she had to seek help from the nuns born in the Church, sometimes asking for advice, sometimes seeking help. Gradually, they became familiar with each other.
“At that moment, I was so scared, but fortunately, Sister Melian comforted me, and we managed to drive away the troublemaker.”
“Bolly is truly brave, but with this experience, I believe next time you won’t be so afraid.”
Lohil and Bolly talked about trivialities of life, such as what they ate for lunch today or what new discoveries they made in the Holy Land. The oppressive and cautious life from before felt like a distant dream.
“Last weekend, Jelica said everyone would gather, and it will be in two days. Lohil just happens to be here, it’s great.”
“Oh, and there’s something else. It seems to be sent from Emanas.”
Bolly seemed to remember something and pulled Lohil back to her living quarters.
She squatted in front of a small cabinet in the bedroom, opened a lower drawer, and took out an iron box with an intact seal and wax.
“This is for you.” She placed the box in Lohil’s hands; it wasn’t very heavy, containing a few items.
“You go ahead and get busy; you just got back today, so rest well.”
After saying this, the considerate young nun closed the door, waved goodbye to the young lady, and left.
Lolan Hill sat on the bed and opened the box’s seal. Inside was a letter, a deep blue gemstone, and a few small booklets.
Unfolding the letter, she saw the familiar and elegant handwriting. This letter was written by Lady Phyllis for her.
Dear Lohil,
It’s been a long time since we last met. I heard you left school temporarily for other matters, and later learned you went to the Holy Land. You haven’t been at school for a year.
Before entering Emanas, I taught you for a while, and your talent in music was astonishing and unforgettable.
Now, another year until graduation, many things need to be addressed. What do you plan to do after graduation?
Unlike ordinary children, you are so different that you stand out in any field. This is not only my view but also the consensus among the teachers who have taught you at school.
But sometimes, too many choices can be detrimental, blinding one’s vision, making them do things half-heartedly. Your own excellence makes everything easy, but it also means everything loses its charm and challenge.
If you merely focus on improving your combat skills, it would be a pity. It’s like using exquisite art to do mundane and common tasks.
This is your choice, but combat is not the entirety of life. We don’t want you to become a mere tool for fighting.
Life exists in this world because it has things that one loves and cherishes. These could be family, hobbies, or landscapes you wish to see, or things you wish to obtain.
Without anything that captivates and interests you, you might lose the motivation to move forward, even losing the will to fight.
And because you are so excellent, I worry more about you.
So, I hope you find a hobby that sustains you. Money is only part of the reason; more importantly, through this hobby or work, you can establish connections with others, anchoring your heart.
Life begins without meaning, but all meaning is generated through time and experience.
To my proudest and most beloved student,
I hope your life has less confusion and more peace and joy.
—Your Miss Phyllis, along with everyone at the school. (Next to it, there are signatures from Lanlir and Lingxin, with Lanlir drawing a mischievous face.)
