Chapter 54: Is Your Brother Planning to Bully Me?
The summer when they graduated from sixth grade was a perfect time for sleeping.
Mei Fang was enjoying his dream when his sister Mei Ya burst into his room, pushing him and shouting loudly.
“Brother, brother, wake up! The sun is already shining on your butt!”
Mei Fang ignored his sister and turned over, continuing to sleep.
Seeing this, Mei Ya pulled open the curtains and used a small mirror to reflect sunlight onto Mei Fang’s bottom.
Although he felt some heat, Mei Fang still did not wake up.
…
Mei Ya puffed out her cheeks in anger and then ran out of the room.
A moment later, she came back with a magnifying glass in hand.
In his dream, Mei Fang had become a top game developer, and he had just won the Game Awards for the Game of the Year. He was thinking about how to surpass the greatness of the creator of “A Way Out” who once told off the Oscars.
But before he could reach the stage in his dream, he suddenly jumped up from bed in reality, clutching his bottom and letting out a scream similar to Tom Cat’s —
“Ao ho ho ho! Ao ho!”
Annoyed, Mei Fang snatched the magnifying glass from Mei Ya. “Brat, what mischief are you up to today?”
“Exploring the mysteries of science.”
Mei Ya smiled innocently. “Magnifying glasses are so much fun!”
“Don’t use me as your guinea pig!”
Mei Fang checked his pajamas and found that Mei Ya had indeed burned a hole in them using the focused light from the magnifying glass.
Since starting elementary school, Mei Ya had become obsessed with natural science classes, which included astronomy, geography, physics, chemistry, and biology. Although these were supplementary subjects, they sparked many interests.
There were many small experiments in class, and since their father wasn’t around, Mei Ya often asked Mei Fang to help her at home.
It couldn’t be denied that this girl had become increasingly mischievous lately…
Mei Fang changed clothes, got up, and washed up. After Xiang Xia had finished preparing breakfast, she asked him:
“Mei Fang, are you really not going to Whitezhou with me and Little Ya to spend the summer with Dad? I’m a bit worried about you being alone at home.”
“The place where Dad lives is too small, I would feel cramped if I went.”
Mei Ya tugged at Mei Fang’s arm and said, “Brother, there’s a huge water park in Whitezhou. Dad said you’ve never been there, and he told me not to tell you. When we go, we’ll take pictures and make you jealous.”
“Our old man is really mean. The water park in Jiangcheng is much bigger. You should have Dad take you there.”
“Is that true?”
“Yes, there’s an incredibly awesome rainbow slide there. It’s very high. When I was your age, Mom and Dad always took me there.”
Mei Ya immediately grabbed her mother Xiang Xia’s arm. “That’s unfair! Why can Brother go to the big water park in Jiangcheng while I can only go to the small one in Whitezhou?”
“Why are you bringing this up to your brother!”
Xiang Xia scolded Mei Ya gently, “Don’t listen to your brother’s nonsense. The water park in Jiangcheng is a thing of the past. The new one in Whitezhou is much better.”
“Okay, I believe Mom.”
As she spoke, Mei Ya made a silly face at Mei Fang. “Poor Brother, poor Brother, unable to play in such a big water park, you can only cry at home.”
“Yeah, I’m really pitiful.”
Mei Fang acted as if he was wiping away tears. “I can’t go to the water park and play with all those kids. I’m really pitiful.”
Mei Ya gave him a look of disdain.
“Brother, you’re lying.”
“What do you mean, I’m lying?” Mei Fang dug his ear.
“You can do whatever you want when you’re alone at home, playing with Sister You Xi and Sister Yuan Yuan every day… I think you don’t care about Dad at all!”
“Nonsense, look how close I am with Dad. How could I not care about him?”
Just as Mei Fang was bickering with his sister, Xiang Xia chimed in, “Ah Fang, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Don’t get too carried away when you’re alone at home.”
“Huh? What does that mean…”
“You’re more mature than most kids, and now you’re older. You should understand what I mean. Don’t pretend to be stupid.”
Xiang Xia said seriously, “You Xi and Yuan Yuan are girls. Even if you’re close friends, you shouldn’t bully them.”
Xiang Xia’s meaning was clear. She didn’t want anything bad to happen when she was away.
Mei Fang naturally understood and agreed, “Mom, I understand. You can rest assured! I know my limits and won’t do anything inappropriate.”
“If you truly understand, that’s great. I’ll feel more at ease knowing you can stay home alone.”
But there was still a confused girl here.
“Mom, Mom, why are you worried that Brother might bully Sister You Xi and Sister Yuan Yuan? I see it’s the other way around. Even though Brother seems to enjoy it…”
Xiang Xia stroked her daughter’s head. “You’re still young. You’ll understand when you grow up.”
“I hate that answer!” Mei Ya pouted. “How do you know I don’t understand if you don’t explain it to me?”
“Well, that’s hard to explain.”
Just as Xiang Xia was trying to change the subject, the door opened gently.
Lin You Xi entered.
“Ms. Mei, I’m here.”
Since Xiang Xia was taking Mei Ya to Whitezhou to spend the summer with her dad, and she would be away for two months, she had invited Xia Yuan and Lin You Xi to dinner beforehand so they wouldn’t keep complaining about not having Mei Auntie’s delicious food.
“You Xi arrived so early. Welcome… Didn’t Yuan Yuan come with you?”
Lin You Xi shook her head. “I went to call Yuan Yuan, but she hasn’t woken up yet. Teacher Yu said Yuan Yuan studied very late last night.”
“This child… must still be upset about the primary school graduation exams.”
On the day of the final exam, Xia Yuan was not feeling well, but she still went through with it. However, the results were not ideal.
Of course, even if the results were poor, Teacher Yu, who was a primary school teacher, managed to arrange for Xia Yuan to enter the better class at Experimental Middle School.
But Xia Yuan’s self-esteem took a big hit from this incident. During the summer, she mostly stayed home to study and rarely went out to see Mei Fang and Lin You Xi.
Mei Fang didn’t have any good solutions for this matter because he knew Xia Yuan too well.
After working so hard and getting such a result, Xia Yuan must be feeling resentful. All he could do now was wait for her to recover.
Before that, he just needed to be there for her when she needed him and provide the support of a friend.
Lin You Xi was embraced by little Mei Ya as soon as she entered the house.
“You Xi Sister! I’ll miss you!”
“I’ll miss you too…” Lin You Xi patted Mei Ya’s head.
Unlike Xia Yuan, Lin You Xi wasn’t particularly close to Mei Ya, but she had received kindness from Xiang Xia and Xia Yuan, which she passed on to Mei Ya.
Therefore, although she wasn’t talkative, she was willing to play with Mei Ya, engage in pretend play, and treat her to various snacks, earning Mei Ya’s admiration.
She leaned down and whispered in Lin You Xi’s ear.
“You Xi Sister, I have a secret to tell you.”
“Mom said that after we leave, you might be bullied by Brother. If that happens, you can call me anytime and tell my mom.”
“Your brother… plans to bully me?”
Lin You Xi glanced at Mei Fang, who was lazily yawning on the couch, puzzled.
New chapter, hoping everyone will continue to support me and the trio in the story as they strive to get into high school.
