Chapter 53: The Vampire Flees
Just when Airael was feeling pleased with herself, a dramatic change occurred within the Blood Barrier surrounding the old vampire.
Purple-black substance began to ooze from his body.
Even his eyes had turned jet black.
Slowly, the Blood Barrier transformed into a black shield.
“This power!”
Noticing something was off, Airael furrowed her brow as she stared at the black barrier.
Boom!
Before she could take a closer look, a violent explosion erupted ahead, sending Airael—the unsuspecting victim—reeling back.
When she finally regained her composure, the silhouettes of the few remaining people had vanished from her sight.
“Damn it!”
Airael gritted her teeth.
Suddenly, she recalled the last scene she had witnessed, causing her frown to deepen.
If her feeling wasn’t wrong, that power should be similar to Mork’s.
Did vampires also harness such power?
As this thought crossed her mind, Airael felt a wave of crisis wash over her.
If that power truly belonged to demons, then the demons’ encroachment upon this world must be quite severe.
Thinking of the sword in Arthur’s hand, it didn’t bode well for humanity if they were also affected by such power. Airael felt that this world was on the brink of disaster.
While one cannot simply judge good or evil based on power alone, the essence of demon power just gives an incredibly bad vibe.
After the vampires fled, Airael didn’t linger any longer and returned to the surface.
At that moment, Arthur and Cain also arrived at the small town.
Upon meeting, Arthur looked at Airael, who was a mess, and asked with concern, “Ailia, what happened to you?”
“It’s nothing, just keeping myself busy,” Airael replied with a smile.
As she spoke, she cast a cleaning spell on herself, rejuvenating her appearance.
“What did you just do?” Arthur inquired.
“I just encountered a scoundrel who specializes in luring innocent women and then infiltrated their base. I didn’t expect it to be a vampire stronghold, and then I ended up fighting them,” Airael explained casually.
Though Airael spoke lightly, Arthur’s heart raced in fear.
What if Ailia had actually fallen for their tricks?
“Miss Ailia, what about those vampires?” Cain asked, his mind more focused on the vampires at hand.
This was his mission!
“They fled,” Airael replied with a grave expression.
Back at the military camp, Airael recounted the details of the battle to both men.
Hearing that vampires might possess similar powers to Mork, Arthur and Cain recognized the seriousness of the issue.
That power was strong and gave an ominous feeling.
Such power in the hands of such people could only lead to disaster.
“We must find those vampires quickly and eliminate them,” Cain stated after a moment of contemplation.
Airael nodded, “Indeed, if we let them continue developing, they’ll become increasingly difficult to deal with.”
“But finding these vampires isn’t going to be easy,” Arthur sighed, “Ailia, you were just lucky before; those vampires will definitely be more cautious now.”
“Even if they are careful, they will surely leave traces behind. We just need to find those traces,” Airael declared.
In a residence within the small town.
After leaving their stronghold, the vampires didn’t abandon the town; instead, they randomly found a household to settle in.
The homeowner immediately became their obedient slave under the influence of their magic.
Although they wished to leave the now dangerous town as soon as possible, the current situation didn’t allow them to do so.
Among the five, the leader, the old man, was currently in big trouble.
Having used a power he couldn’t fully control, he suffered backlash.
Now he needed to recuperate his body.
The longer the delay, the more severe it became.
As the old man rehabilitated himself, the vampire girl and the other three vampires stood guard outside for him.
“Those damned humans, how did they find our stronghold?” the vampire girl angrily thought about the recent battle and their perilous situation.
“There’s no use dwelling on it now; we can’t stay here any longer. We should think ahead,” she said, not bothering to argue with the man.
“Where do we go next?” she asked, following his lead.
In the dark world, they weren’t the only vampires around, and leaving this place to go to others wouldn’t be easy.
They could evade those human nobles, but those also lurking in the dark world would see right through them.
If both sides couldn’t reach an agreement, a fight would be inevitable.
“Let’s ask the elder about that,” the vampire man replied.
He didn’t dare make decisions on his own.
As the girl glanced at the elder, who was nearby resting his eyes, she quickly returned her gaze.
She wasn’t afraid of battles; she was afraid of lacking a goal.
The man glanced at the elder, then turned his attention back to the girl, saying, “Selena, take this opportunity to heal your severed arm.”
At his reminder, Selena suddenly realized she was now disabled.
This would surely affect her performance in upcoming battles.
“Alright!” Selena agreed, then began to channel her internal power to restore her lost arm.
For vampires, their body’s core was their heart.
As long as the heart remained undamaged, other injuries were just minor inconveniences.
While they hid and recuperated inside the residence, Airael and her team commenced their vampire-cleansing operation.
A vast number of soldiers had been dispatched by Arthur from the camp, patrolling the border area.
Any hint of vampire activity would be swiftly reported to Arthur.
Naturally, soldiers were also stationed in the small town.
By nightfall, the soldiers would diligently patrol.
“One day has passed, and we haven’t received any leads on the vampires!” Airael sighed as she waited in the small town.
“Ailia, don’t worry. If those vampires were that easy to find, they would have gone extinct in this world long ago. Moreover, not finding anything could actually be good; it means the vampires didn’t come out to cause trouble today,” Arthur replied with a slightly different perspective.
