Chapter 516: Jeffery’s Dueling Spirit (10k)
Amidst the summer breeze, the carriage sped forward.
The group led by Dark first went to Blue Jade Street, where they visited jade shops, played some gambling on jade stones, and then proceeded to the “Sweet Sweets” dessert shop, where they sat down to enjoy some desserts. Afterward, they circled around the Starry Sky Tower, walked through the pet street, and returned to the Starry Sky Tower.
Upon arriving again at the Starry Sky Tower, Dark was much more composed.
Even when Senior Pandora asked about the rooftop statue incident, he could recount the story without any embarrassment.
“If it were me, the one being decapitated wouldn’t be just the statue.”
As Senior Pandora made her chilling remarks, she walked up the Starry Sky Tower with great interest. Perhaps because of Dark’s amiable attitude during his last visit, the tower’s manager mustered the courage to approach him. However, after a few casual chats, Dark dismissed him. Unlike the previous group who scattered like rabbits seeing a wolf, today’s noble children did not flee in fear.
It seemed that Dark Demon’s previous experience at the Starry Sky Tower had quietly spread, and these people probably knew he had transformed from a hotheaded troublemaker into a gentleman who prefers chess over conflict.
Joshua Middleton, the youngest son of the Marquis, suffered a bitter defeat in their Mana Chess match.
This incident had likely become a common topic among many.
Of course, what spread even further was his Mana Duel against Angus Jeffery, as it better demonstrated one’s strength. Moreover, Angus Jeffery’s defeat added a dramatic twist.
Who would have thought a fourth-year student would lose to a first-year student in an official Mana Duel?
Angus Jeffery might have already become a laughingstock in certain circles.
Moving on.
Dark, along with Pandora, Aurora, and Olivia, toured from the first floor to the sixth floor of the Starry Sky Tower. Unfortunately, this time he didn’t encounter Joshua.
The group gathered on the sixth floor had little interaction with him.
Therefore, he simply had lunch and left the Starry Sky Tower directly.
“According to the plan, we can first go to the Eugenie Trade Circle, and then head to the Enchantment Hall.”
After a moment’s consideration, Dark instructed the dragon guard to change course for the Eugenie Trade Circle.
This bustling trade circle, filled with a rustic charm, lacked the quiet elegance of the noble district but was bustling with life.
Traveling bards, wandering adventurers, travelers lingering in the capital city, and local residents… countless people formed a massive flow.
After getting off the carriage at the intersection, Dark and the others walked to the Horseshoe Tavern.
Little incidents along the way added to their smiles.
Walking together with someone you love, even a mundane path seems endless.
Moreover, the surrounding scenery was so lively, the bustling crowds captivating.
The tavern owner quickly greeted Dark and company upon their arrival, but they only stayed briefly before returning to the carriage.
The clamor faded away, and the surroundings fell silent once more.
Inside the carriage, Dark, Pandora, and Aurora chatted about their day, occasionally laughter spilling out the window and floating into the clouds.
Not long after,
The Duke’s Mansion carriage entered the “Royal Garden,” known for its lush greenery.
The garden was exceptionally verdant, with grassy lawns and flower beds everywhere, filling the air with the scent of flowers.
Cute birds sang from tree branches, and swarms of butterflies fluttered through the flower beds.
The carriage gradually slowed down and entered the “Enchantment Hall” within the Royal Garden.
“Is this the high-end hall you mentioned?”
Pandora leaned out the window, looking up at the ancient castle coming into view, feeling a slight curiosity.
Dark nodded, “A place that requires a membership card to enter. Besides the performances being interesting, everything else is quite ordinary.”
Pandora rolled her eyes.
For the Duke’s son, where wasn’t it ordinary?
In her opinion, even the Starry Sky Tower they passed today was already sufficiently luxurious.
The prices of luxury items often surprised her.
Since leaving the Exile Forest, she had been staying within the academy, and during holidays, she merely exchanged some credits for sacred coins in Traveler’s Street.
Given that the process of exchanging credits for sacred coins was irreversible, she dared not be too extravagant.
Although she had reunited with her mother, it was unfortunate—Hephaestus was poorer than her!
Of course, for a dragon with numerous treasures, making money was relatively simple.
…
Seeing the Duke’s Mansion carriage stop in the hall’s garden, a female attendant hurriedly approached.
It was Jessica, the same lady who had served Dark and company previously.
“Welcome back, Young Master Demon. I am Jessica, ready to serve you.”
Jessica had shoulder-length wavy brown hair, delicate features, fair skin, and a professional makeup that gave her an intellectual charm. She wore gender-neutral clothing, with a slight opening at the neckline revealing an intriguing abyss.
Dark nodded and stepped down after Olivia, extending his hand to help Aurora and Pandora down from the carriage.
Jessica observed the two ladies accompanying Young Master Demon, lingering a bit longer on Pandora.
Clearly, she had figured out who the main guest was.
…
After three o’clock in the afternoon, the人流 in the Enchantment Hall gradually increased.
Carriages pulled up, and the men and women stepping out were all wealthy or influential, exuding an aura of luxury.
Pandora walked beside Dark, seamlessly blending into the environment.
Halfway through, she took hold of Dark’s arm.
Aurora, walking on the other side of Dark, looked more like a sister to them.
Aurora fidgeted, holding her fingers.
Olivia followed slightly behind, squinting her eyes at the two ladies’ backs.
As Angus Jeffery’s tales spread, Dark Demon’s reputation began to improve slightly.
Countless nobles greeted him along the way, to the point where it became somewhat tiresome.
Despite his outward composure, Dark quickened his pace.
Moreover, the goods and services inside the Enchantment Hall were quite appealing.
Even Pandora couldn’t resist glancing at a piece of jewelry.
It was a silver necklace adorned with a cat pendant, quite expensive.
However, Dark’s VIP membership card granted him access to the highest level, offering unlimited use and a monthly allowance of one million sacred coins.
Buying a necklace was no problem.
He naturally didn’t show favoritism and picked out items for Aurora and Olivia as well.
By five o’clock, the four of them finally arrived at the center of the Enchantment Hall.
Once again walking through the circular corridor surrounding the arena, Dark was quite familiar with the route.
Leading the way, he asked, “What performances are there tonight?”
Jessica smiled professionally, “It’s five o’clock now. There should be a shield striking performance in the arena, followed by swordsmanship, piano, and tamer performances.”
“Shield striking and tamer performances?” Dark was curious.
Jessica explained, “Shield striking is essentially two warriors holding shields and charging at each other. The victor is whoever pushes the opponent out of the designated area… As for the tamer performance…”
She smiled and said, “It’s probably considered a higher-level act in a circus. With the rise of magi, tamers have become rare. Finding a genuine tamer isn’t easy.”
“So that’s it.”
Dark nodded slightly, gaining some understanding of the performances.
Shield striking was roughly akin to sumo wrestling, but the warriors needed to wield heavy shields and charge with full force, demanding immense strength and endurance.
The booming sounds of each clash stirred the audience’s enthusiasm.
If this were a competition, it would be incredibly thrilling.
The tamer performance, on the other hand, might offer a different kind of excitement, perhaps allowing one to experience the true aura of wild beasts, unlike the mana golems.
But halfway through, Dark suddenly paused, puzzled, “Are you sure it’s time for the shield striking performance?”
“…”
Jessica glanced at the edge of the corridor.
While many guests were gathered at the edges, there was no sound of shield striking.
Instead, voices and calls could be heard clearly.
“Could the tamer have performed earlier?”
Jessica hesitated but maintained her calm, “Perhaps the schedule was adjusted. Such changes aren’t uncommon here.”
“In any case, let’s go check.”
Feeling the mana fluctuations from the arena, Dark finally became interested.
He quickened his pace to the edge of the corridor and looked down.
To his surprise, two magi were dueling in the arena!
“Mana Duel?”
Pandora looked down beside him, her lips curling upward.
Though the day had been enjoyable, the Mana Duel remained the most captivating.
“Is this also a performance?”
“No.”
Dark pointed at one of the duelists, “Such duelists are beyond what ‘Enchantment Hall’ can afford.”
“Hmm, let me think.” Pandora frowned slightly, pondering, “The one below is probably the president of the Noble History Research Society. I’ve seen him before.”
Dark said, “Yes, it’s Angus Jeffery. But why is he dueling? Was he traumatized by the last battle?”
Pandora: “Hmm?”
Dark shook his head, “No. I mean, maybe he’s obsessed with dueling?”
Pandora couldn’t help but laugh, “I don’t think so.”
They both focused on watching.
The arena emitted a cold aura, and although Jeffery’s “Frozen Land of Li Yuan” had been dispelled, the temperature dropped and took time to recover.
His opponent, dressed in a suit, exuded confidence with every move—though only superficially.
The duelers trained by “Enchantment Hall” were expected to maintain their demeanor, regardless of circumstances.
From above, however, the face hidden under the brim of his hat was already distorted.
In this cold environment, he was sweating profusely, his eyes showing fear, clearly not in his element.
On the other hand, Angus Jeffery adopted a condescending stance, his eyes reflecting arrogance and coldness towards his opponent.
Though he might have always thought this way, he never openly displayed such attitudes publicly.
Now, Angus Jeffery
In the midst of his every move, there was no concealment at all, with the arrogance between his brows almost piercing through the skin.
An inexplicable eerie aura permeated the field.
“By the name of Angus Jeffrey, I sacrifice and summon — Frost Emperor!”
Angus Jeffrey suddenly raised the magic card in his hand towards the sky; crystal-like icy blue light burst forth from that magic card.
Without any need, the two golems in his field turned into light, transforming into offerings for summoning a higher-star magic golem.
A giant emperor penguin as large as a small mountain rose from the summoning circle, its ice crystal crown nearly touching the corridor above.
The nobles watching in the circular corridor couldn’t help but let out excited cries; all their gazes were focused on that “Frost Emperor”!
That fat emperor penguin, which had not been summoned during the duel with Dark, let out a harsh scream the moment it appeared and then abruptly lifted its short limbs, stomping heavily with its thick feet towards the opposing magic golem.
The unfortunate magic golem was directly crushed by the foot, with mana light scattering everywhere.
“Frost Emperor” swayed its body, stepping one step at a time across the centerline of the field, its massive body gradually enveloping the duelist cultivated by the arena in shadows.
An indescribable fear welled up from its heart.
Unable to resist, he took several steps back, lifting his head to stare dead at the eyes of the “Frost Emperor.”
Suddenly,
He let out a scream, fleeing the arena in horror before the life barrier of the magic guidance ball shattered.
“Boom!”
The “Frost Emperor” didn’t stop, stomping and shattering the life barrier of the magic guidance ball.
“Beep—”
The referee on the scene blew the whistle sharply, declaring Angus Jeffrey’s victory.
Loud applause erupted, and the atmosphere in the center of the arena was more intense than imaginable.
After winning, Angus Jeffrey retracted his magic golems and left with a cold remark.
“Waste.”
…
Dark observed carefully in the corridor, feeling surprised: “Is this still Senior Jeffrey?”
In just a week, the change in Angus Jeffrey was astonishing.
“Hey, Dark?”
The sudden greeting brought Dark back to his senses, turning to look in the direction of the voice.
Phelix Laraman was waving at him.
He could also see Brown Oenone and a few other familiar noble children beside her.
Dark’s eyes darted, calling Pandora and Aurora over and walking towards Phelix’s direction.
Phelix hurriedly made room when she saw him coming.
Those two noble children got up laughing, moving behind the sofa where Phelix and the others were sitting, placing both chairs comfortably.
Dark approached the sofa, first inviting Pandora and Aurora to sit down, then he sat down himself, making room for Olivia.
Olivia, as a maid, should have stood by.
But under Dark’s gesture, she had no choice but to sit down.
The maid beside quickly served tea.
Phelix raised her hand, warmly saying, “Why are you here today?”
Dark nodded and replied, “I’ve been busy all week, so I came to relax. Didn’t you come with Jeffrey?”
“Jeffrey ah—” Phelix moved the lid of the cup, speaking meaningfully, “We haven’t been together much since last time.”
Dark’s mind stirred, asking, “What happened?”
Phelix smiled, saying, “How should I put it? Maybe he’s too embarrassed to go out after losing to you. Or maybe he’s grounded by his father. Anyway, we didn’t see him until this week.”
“This week?” Dark asked, “So he started being active again this week.”
“Yes,” Phelix sighed, “And quite active. If I hadn’t known him since childhood, I’d think he’s a different person.”
Dark: “Changed… well, more like a noble?”
“Hmm?” Phelix paused, then carefully considered, finally understanding, “Exactly! More like an old-fashioned noble from a few generations ago! Do you know what it feels like to judge people by their nose?
That’s how. And he’s short… no, I mean he’s not tall. So to look down on people, he needs some other means, like…”
Dark: “Like what?”
Phelix raised his finger, seriously saying, “Tools or advantage in position.”
Dark: “Height-increasing shoes or standing on something high?”
Phelix couldn’t help but smile slightly, saying, “Don’t say these things to him. He’s actually quite fragile.”
Dark: “Glass heart?”
Phelix’s eyes lit up, saying, “Yes, exactly! Like connecting glass and heart, surprisingly fitting.”
Dark curiously asked, “So how did he become like this?”
Phelix leaned back in his chair, saying, “Who knows? On Monday, he suddenly appeared in the arena, challenging the duelists trained by the arena occasionally. And whenever he speaks to anyone, he’s very direct.”
“Some people seem to enjoy that kind of feeling, and some think he’s awakened, having more value to rely on. You see…”
Dark followed Phelix’s guidance, turning his head to see Angus Jeffrey approaching from the entrance, surrounded by even more followers than before.
Clearly, after his sudden personality change, those who believed in him increased.
“People prefer to follow a tiger rather than a snake.”
Phelix’s voice drifted out faintly.
Dark withdrew his gaze, saying, “Do you think this is normal or abnormal?”
“Normal or abnormal?” Phelix was slightly startled, “What do you see?”
But Dark only shook his head, saying, “I don’t know.”
He never really understood Angus Jeffrey and had no interest in doing so either.
It was just the magic duel he saw earlier that gave him a sense of unease.
But he wasn’t sure where the sense of discomfort came from.
He looked at Pandora beside him, asking, “Senior, what do you think?”
Phelix noticed the breathtaking aura of the girl beside him, quickly saying, “This… is also a top student from Saint Maryann Academy?”
Pandora nodded at the standard lady-like figure in front of her, saying, “I’m in the same year as that Angus Jeffrey.”
“Really?” Phelix carefully examined Pandora, feeling that this young girl seemed familiar.
Although she wasn’t particularly interested in magic duels, the academy’s relentless promotion of star duelists meant she might have seen Pandora’s photo in some female magazine.
Pandora didn’t continue looking at her but turned to Dark, saying, “Angus Jeffrey’s performance just now is indeed quite different from within the academy, but I don’t know him well. Perhaps it’s just his hidden nature?”
Dark looked at Phelix, asking, “Is that so?”
Phelix pondered for a moment, saying, “Not necessarily his true nature, but he does like to disguise himself often.”
“Alright.” Dark suddenly felt somewhat disappointed, saying, “Perhaps he just had a breakthrough after being scolded by Count Jeffrey. Whatever the case, it has nothing to do with us. Phelix, do you want to have dinner with us next?”
“Right here?” Phelix asked.
Dark smiled slightly, “Right here. I still want to see a shield strike performance or a tamer show.”
…
The minor nobles hanging around Phelix mostly had no political stance.
Those with emotional intelligence wouldn’t discuss depressing topics here.
They picked up recent hot topics, such as the past “Demon King’s Execution Ritual” or some interesting incidents that happened during the ritual, chatting casually.
All the young people present had similar points of interest, making the conversation quite enjoyable.
But after a few pleasantries, Dark prepared to move elsewhere.
Aurora and Pandora clearly didn’t like chatting with so many people, so he naturally couldn’t continue.
However, just as he was about to propose it, he suddenly noticed Angus Jeffrey walking over.
…
Up close, the change in Angus Jeffrey’s demeanor was indeed noticeable.
He hadn’t taken care of his hair for a while; his brownish-gold hair hung loosely behind his head, tied into a small tuft with a thin string.
His facial features remained neat, but there was a slight darkness under his eyes, suggesting he hadn’t slept enough.
But under the overall aura, no one paid attention to the dark circles under his eyes.
Angus Jeffrey had a stern expression, his chin slightly raised, his gaze slanting downwards with arrogance and coldness.
But when he saw Dark Demon, that coldness instantly vanished, revealing undisguised disdain in his eyes.
Just a brief eye contact told Dark that the other party had ill intentions.
If the duel invitation last time could maintain a superficial atmosphere, this time, Angus Jeffrey showed no restraint.
Pandora sensed Jeffrey’s malice and whispered into Dark’s ear, “Does Jeffrey have a grudge against you?”
Dark thought for a moment, whispering, “It’s probably a matter of political stance. I don’t have any personal grievances with him… yes, that’s it.”
Pandora couldn’t help but laugh, “I don’t think so.”
Dark shrugged, “At least I don’t have a grudge with him.”
Pandora: “Then he has a grudge against you.”
Dark: “Who knows?”
Phelix, noticing them whispering, turned to see Angus Jeffrey approaching.
Her eyes twinkling, she smiled, “Angus, why are you here?”
“I came to check, what are you all talking about?”
Angus Jeffrey’s voice carried a hint of low tone.
After he walked over, he directly placed his hand on someone’s shoulder, causing that person to hastily get up and make room.
Angus Jeffrey sat down expressionlessly, crossing his hands, his gaze sweeping past Dark.
When he saw Pandora, his pupils involuntarily contracted, and the disdain in his eyes lessened, his tone softening as well, “Dark Demon, dare you to have another round?”
…
For a moment, the atmosphere on the scene felt like the winter temperature, dropping sharply.
Phelix sighed slightly, not fully understanding Angus Jeffrey’s behavior.
Challenging a duke’s son was originally irrational.
If it were in the academy, where status didn’t matter, it would be fine, but in this noble-filled arena, Angus Jeffrey shouldn’t challenge Dark Demon again.
Even if he won, what would be the benefit?
Just to show that you can defeat a first-year student?
Considering Jeffrey’s state was off, Phelix lost interest in watching the spectacle this time.
But despite knowing him since childhood, their relationship wasn’t close enough for her to offer advice.
And seeing Jeffrey’s current state, it was clear that he wouldn’t listen.
Therefore, she could only reveal an expression of helplessness.
Even she felt there was no way, let alone a minor character like Brown Oeney.
On the other side of the sofa.
Dark narrowed his eyes, looking at Angus Jeffrey again with great scrutiny.
As he got closer, the eerie aura around Angus Jeffrey became more noticeable, though it remained vague and indistinct.
That feeling made him feel uncomfortable, yet also intrigued.
He slightly turned his head and whispered to Pandora, “Did you sense anything?”
Pandora squinted for a long time but still shook her head.
Their exchange had ignored Angus Jeffrey completely.
Jeffery raised his eyebrows and lowered his voice, “What, are you afraid?”
Dark looked up somewhat helplessly, “Senior Jeffrey, have you forgotten even basic etiquette?”
Jeffery’s expression faltered but he remained stubborn, “What, do you want me to prepare a white glove for you?”
Dark replied, “I mean… never mind, let’s get on with it!”
…
Seeing Dark agree, Jeffery smirked, “Don’t blame me for bullying you. You have fifteen minutes to prepare. Fifteen minutes later, I’ll make you understand who the ultimate victor is!”
Before he finished speaking, he suddenly stood up, turned, and returned to his territory.
The group of nobles that followed him left as well.
The atmosphere immediately improved.
Phelix said right away, “Dark, is it okay to accept his challenge? Though I don’t know much about mana duels, Angus hasn’t lost in days, he must have improved greatly.”
Dark shook his head, “Victory and defeat are common. I mainly want to investigate him through this duel. I really want to know why he is so obsessed with dueling?”
Pandora worriedly asked, “Is it alright? Jeffery is a fourth-year student…”
Aurora frowned, “Dark, be careful. I feel something is off with that person.”
Dark smiled, “The challenge makes it interesting. The fun of dueling is finding the possible in the impossible, right?”
Then he tapped his mana deck, infused it with mana, and reminded his mana golems to prepare.
Three minutes later, he recalled all his mana golems.
For a magus, as long as they had the mana cards, they could instantly recall their mana golems, regardless of distance.
Today was also the weekend.
His mana golems were busy with homework and wouldn’t miss regular classes.
The only issue was that “Paradise” and “Zoo” were still in the room, so today’s deck lacked a core card compared to two weeks ago.
But “Little Cubone” could fill that gap.
So it wasn’t a big problem.
The remaining ten minutes were spent communicating and enriching mana with his mana golems.
The news that Dark Demon and Angus Jeffrey would have their second mana duel in the hall spread quickly.
Fifteen minutes was enough for all the guests in the castle to gather at the hall center.
Most people had talked about the results of the previous duel, making them very interested in the outcome of this one.
Unconsciously, the circular corridor filled with noble men and women.
No one dared to underestimate the Valkyrie’s son anymore.
Angus Jeffrey’s连胜 in the hall recently also influenced many people who believed he would seek revenge.
Yes, “revenge!”
This mana duel seemed to be a popular revenge story!
A fourth-year student losing to a first-year student, then overcoming adversity and defeating the first-year student after shouting “Thirty years east of the river, thirty years west, don’t bully young poverty”…
Wait, something feels off?
Forget it, it doesn’t matter.
In any case, many people wanted to see Angus Jeffrey succeed, while others hoped to see him defeated by a first-year student again.
If the identities of the duelists weren’t too sensitive, the hall management might even consider taking bets.
Even without betting, the gentlemen and ladies present were highly excited and looked forward to the duel.
Feeling the audience’s mood, Dark Demon wouldn’t dampen their spirits.
After getting ready, he stood up from his seat and prepared to walk to the raised platform.
At the same time, a female servant hurried over and said to him, “Mr. Demon, Mr. Jeffrey suggests moving the duel to the lower arena. Is that acceptable?”
Dark furrowed his brows, feeling wary of Jeffrey’s sudden suggestion.
But after careful consideration, he nodded at the servant, “It’s fine.”
The servant promptly replied, “I will inform Mr. Jeffrey. If you are unfamiliar with the route, Jessica can guide you.”
With that, she left quickly.
Dark paused slightly, then raised his hand to Pandora and the others, “I’ll go down then.”
“I’ll go with Young Master.” Olivia stood up.
Dark’s heart stirred, nodding, “Sure, Aurora, please take care of her.”
Pandora smiled, “No problem.”
Dark smiled at them and turned to Jessica, “Please lead the way.”
…
Under Jessica’s guidance, Dark and Olivia soon entered the hallway leading to the arena.
Olivia softly said, “Young Master, if you notice anything unusual, stop the duel immediately.”
Dark nodded, “I will.”
The hallway was eerily silent as footsteps echoed downward.
Soon, the bustling crowd’s voices reached their ears, and the arena’s light came into view.
Dark Demon walked out of the entrance, followed by a beautiful maid and a proper-looking female attendant.
He slightly raised his head and saw Angus Jeffrey appear at the opposite entrance.
Jeffrey had no followers.
After stepping out, he looked at Dark, smiling silently.
Then the floor tiles suddenly shifted, revealing two competitor platforms rising gradually.
The arena frequently hosted mana duel performances, so all facilities were well-equipped.
When the platforms fully rose, a circular section descended in the summoning area, and mana balls emerged from the holes, floating half a meter above the ground.
The circular section then rose again, covering the holes.
A five-meter-high platform sprang from the side wall.
A male referee in red suit and a female commentator in blue suit walked onto the platform simultaneously.
Compared to the duel two weeks ago, this one was more formal.
“This is why we’re here,” Dark thought, ignoring Jeffrey’s provocation and stepping onto the red side platform.
Angus Jeffrey also stepped onto the blue side platform.
Both players activated their spellboards, and mana projections appeared, with amplifiers starting.
Angus Jeffrey suddenly looked at Dark and said, “Demon!”
“Hmm.” Dark casually agreed, placing his deck into the card slot on the table.
Before the thirty-second countdown of the “standby phase” began, both players had ample time to communicate.
But most people didn’t utilize this time.
Winning through skill and luck rather than trash talk and outside strategies was the pride of most duelists.
However, Angus Jeffrey clearly had a lot bottled up inside.
As a model student embodying all virtues, Dark didn’t mind letting him vent.
Let him say whatever needed to be said.
Seeing Dark’s calm demeanor, the coldness in his eyes grew even more intense.
He lowered his voice, “Do you think dueling is easy?”
Dark hadn’t expected Jeffrey to say that, so he countered, “Why do you think so?”
Angus Jeffrey raised his voice, “Because you’ve never lost!”
Dark calmly shook his head, “No, I have lost.”
“Impossible!” Angus Jeffrey immediately denied, “Since you joined the Dueling Club, I’ve been following your progress. Neither Elsie Kevin, Mike Owen, Stewart Fane, nor Tom Nixon could stop you! You’ve never experienced defeat, how could you understand the difficulty of dueling?”
There was also a fourth-year named Angus Jeffrey.
Dark silently rolled his eyes.
If the scope of “dueling” was limited to “mana duels,” he indeed hadn’t lost.
But what does not losing have to do with thinking dueling is easy?
Though Angus Jeffrey’s expression was normal, Dark sensed a hint of desperation in his forced logic.
He thought for a moment and decided to play along, “Senior Jeffrey, if we limit it to mana duels, I haven’t lost. But shouldn’t mana dueling be enjoyable, bringing smiles to everyone? Why focus on its difficulty?”
Angus Jeffrey raised his head proudly, “Because dueling is a serious, solemn, and grand thing! Its difficulty, importance, and competitiveness are what make it exciting! Someone who doesn’t know the difficulty of dueling doesn’t deserve to win!”
Dark’s confusion deepened, “Senior Jeffrey, is dueling really that important to you?”
Angus Jeffrey sneered, “Of course. Duels are my life, my future. I was born to duel. Anyone who disrespects dueling will pay the price. Including you, Dark Demon!”
Then he abruptly placed his deck into the slot.
As the shuffling sound of cards rang out, he lifted his chin, yelling, “Dark Demon, do you accept my challenge?”
Dark: “I accept.”
Instantly, a gray flame erupted from Angus Jeffrey’s forehead.
The flame shot upwards, stretched, and transformed into a gray line that raced around the arena, igniting gray flames at the edges and filling the air with a strange aura.
Dark’s eyes widened; he clearly saw the gray flame and felt a familiar sensation.
He turned his head and confirmed that no one else could see the gray flames except for the duelists!
…
