Chapter 49: Krul’s Thoughts
“Let’s not talk about Yuke, who is questioning life.”
On the other side, Krul returned to find a guest waiting for him.
“Krul, why such a grand display? What were you up to just now?”
Before Krul could inquire about her purpose, Domiya looked at him and the large group of guards behind him and asked.
“I had a few matters to address.”
As Krul replied to Domiya, he gestured for the guards to leave.
“What matters?”
Domiya followed up, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Having Krul personally intervene and bring along such a crowd was definitely no trivial matter.
“You’re still as curious as ever!”
Krul stepped into the room, sighing as he looked at Domiya.
“Since you know I’m curious, spill it quickly! Otherwise, you know I won’t just let it go.”
Domiya threatened him.
Krul felt a bit helpless.
But he could only say, “It’s nothing major, just some fool held a banquet on the island without knowing the gravity of the situation.”
“Oh! I thought it was some earth-shattering event.”
Domiya seemed slightly disappointed.
“Even if it’s not a big deal, we can’t underestimate it. We are on the battlefield; taking some time to relax is fine, but throwing a banquet is just excessive.”
Domiya nodded, deciding not to argue further about it.
Seeing this, Krul dropped the subject and asked, “Speaking of which, what brings you here all of a sudden?”
“I’m here because I need to talk to you.”
Domiya smiled and said, “I heard that my student, our Queen, is currently in your territory.”
Lately, she had been holed up in the center of the island, completely focused on overseeing the gigantic magic circle.
Today, being the day for supplies, she had finally managed to communicate enough with the outside world.
Hence, she found out that Airael had made such a bold move.
“Yeah!”
Krul nodded and said, “This was her own request. She insisted on coming to the front lines to contribute to our Elven race. So, Liniis arranged for her to be stationed on Silnas Island. There, she can fulfill her desire to assist the Elves while also ensuring her safety.”
Domiya nodded, understanding the reasoning.
Krul’s point was indeed valid.
Even though the Staff of Eternity granted Airael tremendous combat power, relying too heavily on it would prevent her from truly advancing as a Mage.
As a teacher, Domiya was concerned about Airael personally joining the war.
With Airael’s current strength, she couldn’t defeat anyone without the Staff of Eternity.
However, since Airael was stationed on Silnas Island, she likely wouldn’t face combat until the island was attacked.
In other words, she wouldn’t need to use the Staff of Eternity.
“Is there anything else?”
Noticing her contemplative demeanor, Krul asked.
Pulling her mind back from Airael, Domiya looked at Krul and smiled. “Well, initially no, but it seems there’s something else now.”
“What else is there?”
Domiya glanced at the attendants standing around.
Understanding her cue, Krul’s brow furrowed.
This meant that what Domiya was about to say was definitely something exceptional.
As such, he dutifully dismissed the attendants.
Once they left, Krul turned to Domiya and said, “Now can we talk?”
“Krul, you must have noticed.”
“Noticed what?”
“Heh—!”
Domiya chuckled lightly and said, “Since you’re playing dumb, let me be blunt. Liniis is plotting something big!”
Krul’s expression turned serious.
“This big event could change the entire structure of the Elven race.”
After saying this, Domiya fixed her gaze on Krul.
She didn’t believe Krul would continue to pretend he was unaware.
After a long moment, Krul sighed and said, “Domiya, we actually shouldn’t be too concerned.”
“That may be true, but who knows what will happen? Even you and I might not be able to stay out of it!”
Realizing something, Domiya quickly corrected herself, “Wait, I’m already involved. Since I’m caught up in it, you won’t escape, either, Krul.”
“What I meant was, with our current identities and positions, we really don’t need to worry too much. Because even if we lose, it won’t be a complete disaster.”
“You have a point, but if we can win, why lose? Losing would look terrible.”
After sharing her opinion, Domiya looked at Krul and asked, “Krul, don’t you want to win?”
“Win—!”
Krul’s face immediately showed self-mockery as he said, “Even if we win, what’s the point? In-fighting only ends up losing our own strength as a race.”
Hearing this, Domiya fell silent for a moment.
Krul was indeed right.
In-fighting only eats away at the strength of the Elven race.
They had already had their fair share of painful experiences regarding this matter.
No race understood the heavy losses caused by infighting better than the Elves.
However, this time was different.
Krul, it seems you’re not seeing the present situation clearly, or perhaps you refuse to see it.
Domiya sighed in her heart, beginning to understand Krul’s perspective.
Having comprehended Krul’s thoughts, Domiya decided not to linger any longer.
“Krul, I understand your point. Sorry for interrupting you today.”
Surprised by Domiya’s sudden apology, Krul replied, “No problem!”
“However, Krul, I still have to remind you. Though your thinking is commendable, sometimes circumstances force you to make some cruel choices.”
With that, Domiya gave Krul a deep glance and left.
Left behind, Krul experienced a momentary blur in his gaze but quickly regained his clarity.
Those issues were for the future; for now, he just needed to focus on his own responsibilities.
What mattered now was fighting for the entire Elven race.
He absolutely had to protect the Elves and fend off the invading humans.
With such a belief in his heart, Krul immersed himself back into his work.
Document after document was quickly reviewed, and corresponding orders were issued.
