Episode.49 A Celebrity Everyone Knows Except You
Harin was sitting on the mattress, putting on her stockings again.
I sat beside her, looking at the faces of the Golden Rule organization members who had come in after closing the front door.
It was a bit hard to see.
“Wait, were we having the door open?”
‘We closed it. I firmly shut it when we received the delivery, worried about the heat escaping from the room.’
“Don’t you have something to say to us? Are you just going to stare at us like a fool?”
Ye-rim looked down at me.
Beside her, Chaeyun, Eunbyul’s real sister, was hiding behind her, holding onto Ye-rim’s leg.
Why is she acting like that?
Am I scary?
No, it seems that Chaeyun was just unfamiliar with Harin.
“Aren’t you going to answer?”
Then the timid hacker, Seoyoon, who was even further behind, spoke up strongly.
I thought they might have finally crossed the line of being timid…
“I don’t really know what to say either…”
“What? Why haven’t you been answering our messages?”
Ah, that’s what it was.
Now that I think about it, I definitely heard the notification sound when I was tangled up with Harin on the mattress.
Naturally, I thought the only person who would contact me would be Eunbyul, to share what she found out regarding the tracker or about the ‘dagger’ she gave me last time.
“Ah, sorry. I was all tangled up with her back then—”
“Ah! What are you saying?! Is it any of my business if you’re fooling around with another girl? Idiot.”
“What, hey… that was… not, right?”
This situation was really something to witness.
Seoyoon gave Ye-rim a puzzled look.
Harin finished putting on her stockings and sat quietly next to me, just like the stone Harubang in Jeju.
“Oppa! What did you do lying down with that sister? Was it fun? Is it a fun game?”
Chaeyun seemed to be asking her parents, “Mom, Dad, how are babies made?”
Harin’s face began to turn red.
“This won’t do. If I don’t handle this well, we’ll have to resort to early education.”
I’m already losing sight of how to get out of this.
My vision darkening in front of me is something reminiscent of when I played the Pokémon game as a kid.
No, recently, after meeting Harin, my vision often goes dark… I can’t say it’s only an experience from my childhood.
Anyway, to break out of this situation, I guess… I’ll have to change the subject.
“But, how did you get in if the front door was closed?”
“Changing the subject? That’s a good option for you. You almost ended up exposing a child to the unknown world.”
‘Please shut that mouth.’
Chaewon floated over to me with a sly smile. She settled on my shoulder as if it were a long-awaited reunion.
“Well… it’s not like there’s a door lock. I just opened it with a key. This is my house. So, I just pried it open and came in.”
“Are you crazy? Is that theft?”
I stepped back a little.
“Yeah, let’s keep some distance.”
As soon as Ye-rim heard my words, she started talking rapidly like a machine gun.
“Why are you acting like that? I didn’t open the door. Seoyoon opened it. And more than anything, if you had checked your messages, you wouldn’t have had to show Chaeyun such an embarrassing scene?!”
She seemed really angry right now.
What kind of message did she send for her to react like that?
– Tok tok!
At the worst timing, a notification sounded from my smartphone.
“… What? You weren’t even on silent mode? I thought you didn’t see my messages because you put it on silent. Now it seems you just ignored my messages on purpose, you trash.”
Chaeyun was listening to everything; is it okay to speak like that?
“Oppa, are you calling him a trash?”
Wow.
I’ve already messed up.
I hastily grabbed my smartphone in my hand.
Checking the messages I’d received, I noticed a new one.
First, the message that just came in.
> Eunbyul: It seems you didn’t take the potion when you came to the hideout last time, so I sent Ye-rim.
And Ye-rim’s message.
> Choe Ye-rim: Hey. Is this Han Shiwoo? Eunbyul said we need to resupply potions soon, so come to your house to deliver them.
And another message.
> Choe Ye-rim: Why aren’t you reading my messages? Are you not home?
That was it.
“But normally you send a message before you leave, right? What’s the point of sending it now that you’re almost here?”
“Ha, nitpicking over something so trivial. If you live like this, you’ll be alone forever.”
“… Speaking of which, it doesn’t seem like you brought a box. So you came to resupply potions? I don’t need that potion very often anymore.”
“What? Change your expression… I mean, don’t you drink it often? How short is its duration? Are you doing your job properly? Do you want to keep making Eunbyul uncomfortable? Because of you, she can’t even rest well. Huh? She’s already not well!”
Ye-rim seemed to have noticed Harin sitting next to me and almost stopped herself from mentioning the potion.
Harin is practically our enemy in this situation.
Well… our Siwoo did cause some trouble for that girl, in various ways… What?! She’s not feeling well?!
I jumped up from my seat.
“What do you mean?! What do you mean she’s not well?!”
“Ah… you didn’t know?… Uh, did I cause a problem…?”
Ye-rim couldn’t make eye contact and kept avoiding my gaze.
The person who’s like a savior to me is currently sick?
“What are you talking about?! Are you bluffing? That girl with the nice body is sick? So what does that make my body, a prepubescent elementary school frame with no appeal?!”
‘No, is that all that’s running through your mind? It’s not sick, it’s unwell. When you say she’s not well, it means to be cautious. Don’t you know?’
“Ha!”
Chaewon hopped off my shoulder and attached herself to the gloomy Seoyoon.
“Ugh… But, isn’t it a little cold in the room?”
‘Anyway, when I try to stay quiet, my conscience pricks at me…’
“Your conscience must be a sensitive area, right? A little prick might be enjoyable. Something like that.”
With vulgar gestures, Chaewon kept spouting nonsense.
“Damn it.”
But that hit me hard.
“Hey, I’ll go get the box I dropped outside.”
Ye-rim rushed out of the front door as if escaping, to retrieve the box she mentioned dropping.
When she looked back at Harin and me, it seemed she dropped it on the floor.
“Hm? What’s in that bag?”
Chaewon seemed interested in the bag Seoyoon was holding.
The white plastic bag showed some contents slightly through it.
A green bottle?
“Seoyoon, what is that?”
“You know… you do know I’m a year older than you, right?”
“Ye-rim is a year younger than me, yet she talks to me informally. Let’s treat each other as friends.”
“Uh, well… this… is soju.”
“Alcohol?”
“I brought the potion. Even if you don’t need it, keep it. If the association finds out you’re in our group… I mean, it’s healthy stuff, so just take it.”
– Tok tok!
Ye-rim handed the box over while signaling to check my smartphone.
I checked my smartphone.
> Choe Ye-rim: Oh, by the way, the girl you were with. Who is she? Is she from the association?
After that conversation, we could no longer sneak in any chats.
Because the timid Seoyoon broke the silence.
“Um, um… Harin-nim… could you please sign this?”
Seoyoon handed over a piece of paper and a pen.
“See?”
I exclaimed once I heard that.
“What, what… is that really what was going on?”
Ye-rim looked at Harin with a shocked expression.
“Ah, yes. Of course.”
Harin took the paper and pen, lightly signed, and handed it back.
“Harin? Then this woman… is the famous healer? I’ve only heard of her; this is the first time seeing her… Why on earth would you… do such a thing with someone like her?”
“Ah… that’s—”
“Harin-nim, would you like to drink some alcohol?”
Seoyoon proactively appealed her presence to Harin.
‘But why does Seoyoon like someone from the association?’
“I don’t know. Was that woman really famous?”
“Um… well… having a drink doesn’t seem like a bad idea.”
Harin turned her head toward me with a strange expression.
“What, what is it…”
“You’ll drink with us, right?”
“Ah, yeah. I guess I should. Then let’s just let Ye-rim join in and drink together.”
I can’t be the only one forced to drink.
“Ugh, why do I have to drink too?”
“Sis! Can I drink too?”
Chaeyun took out a paper cup from the bag, taking advantage of the confusion.
“Sure, go ahead.”
Ye-rim replied.
“Awesome! I’m excited!”
“Did I hear that wrong?”
“What’s going on?”
“Hey, is it okay to offer alcohol to a minor?”
“It’s fine; if it were Eunbyul, she would have allowed it… or not. Well, after all, we are a villain organization… a group of bad guys, so there’s no need to follow such rules, right? Of course, there are limits, but since it’s given by an adult, there’s no problem.”
“Wow, what a remarkably decent mindset.”
“Look, see? Your words have started to become rough lately too.”
“That’s because of you.”
“What do you mean?”
