Chapter 436: Sewing a Doll
There was still some time before school started, and Lolan Hill stayed in the Maple Leaf Courtyard to rest.
These days, when she had free time, she would take walks in the mountain area, looking around. Occasionally, she would lie on high branches and read books stored in the system.
The classics and records were projected by the system as if they were physical pages that could be held and flipped through.
Apart from important documents, she would occasionally look for unfinished film and literary works from the past, to see if there were any subsequent parts. It was also a way to fulfill her past wishes.
As days passed by, after properly relaxing and resting, she remembered to visit her nearby neighbor, the awakened ghost princess, Yixuegelin.
Carrying the candy blocks she made during her free time recently, the young lady traveled through the wind, crossing the greenish-blue mountains and valleys of the Sighing Mountains, and arrived beside a mirror-like lake.
On the cliff by the lake, there was still an ice-blue beehive where ice flame bees came and went, entering and exiting under the sunlight, occasionally emitting the sound of their wings vibrating.
Below the cliff, the lake resembled a blue sapphire fallen into a sea of flowers. The ice cups swayed with the wind, reaching up to the sky, seemingly endless.
She didn’t expect that in just one year, Yixuegelin had expanded this sea of flowers so much.
Lolan Hill slowly descended onto the lake surface, her toes touching the shallow, transparent water, causing ripples to spread out, then the water slightly dipped in, forming a constantly moving bubble that enveloped the girl as she submerged into the water.
Under the icy lake surface, the water temperature was nearly zero degrees, completely different from the summer-like heat outside. Lolan Hill looked at the serene crystal coffin among the ice flowers at the bottom of the lake and gently knocked on it.
A semi-transparent girl separated from the figure within the coffin, swimming through the cold water and the transparent bubble, her hand caressing Lolan Hill’s face, giving her a refreshing chill.
“I came to see you, Yixuegelin,” Lolan Hill said, and two figures rose from the bottom of the lake, leaping out of the water.
“I’ve been waiting for you for a long time, but you only come once a year.”
“This year, many things have happened.” Lolan Hill, feeling a bit embarrassed, twisted the strands of hair by her ear, explaining that she was going to school.
“School? What is school life like? Will there be many people?”
Yixuegelin was very interested. She had never attended school in her lifetime. Most of her life was spent in the depths of the palace. Only in the short period before her death did she accompany the army on an expedition, which was the most exciting part of her life.
Lolan Hill described the various activities in the school, the students from different regions, and their customs and cultures, making Yixuegelin feel envious.
“If I could also go to school and see it for myself,” she said.
“Yes, do what you want to do,” Lolan Hill took out a transparent sugar jar from the basket beside her, containing colorful candies wrapped in different colored papers.
“Just like candy, you won’t know the taste until you unwrap it and put it in your mouth. You might not like some, but you can find ones you really enjoy.”
The two sat on a sloping hill, looking down at the lake. Lolan Hill handed the sugar jar to Yixuegelin.
“These are all homemade. They have different flavors and effects. Try them.”
Yixuegelin accepted the candy. Although she was a ghost, due to her strong abilities, as she gradually recovered over the year, she was now at the 8th rank of the Necromancer Sequence. Therefore, it wasn’t difficult for her to form a solid body and perceive taste.
“Thank you.”
Yixuegelin unwrapped one of the white wrappers, revealing a small amber cube. A faintly sweet aroma filled the air. She placed it in her mouth and savored the unique sweetness.
“This is made with maple syrup. How is it?”
Seeing that Yixuegelin didn’t know what maple syrup was, Lolan Hill explained by gesturing in the air.
It was a tree with five-pointed leaves. Every autumn, the leaves turned red like burning twilight clouds, falling from the sky. The sap from its trunk was also very sweet.
Thus, Yixuegelin unwrapped each candy of different colors, listening to Lolan Hill describe them in detail. They sat there for an entire day until the moon hung high, insects chirped everywhere, and a cool night breeze blew.
“Thank you, Lolan, for coming to see me,” it was time to part ways.
Looking at the ghost princess standing on the lake, Lolan Hill said,
“Do you want to come with me to the school? Although you can’t enroll, you can meet many people there, and there are many close relatives of the forest elves, the Sen Elves.”
“Really? Can I go too?”
This ghost princess happily circled around the young lady and then hugged Lolan Hill.
“Thank you, Lolan!”
After agreeing to bring Yixuegelin to the school, the two thought for a moment and decided that Lolan Hill would make another doll, just like the little bear.
Taking Yixuegelin back to the Maple Leaf Courtyard, the ghost princess curiously examined everything around her. She circled around the huge amber-leaved maple tree, exclaiming in surprise.
“This might have the potential to become the next World Tree,” she said, echoing Lolan Hill’s previous judgment.
After temporarily settling in Lolan Hill’s home, the young lady gained a new neighbor. Unlike the small house, the ghost princess preferred sitting high on the maple tree, overlooking the courtyard lawn and distant scenery below.
However, at night, she would drift down from the trees, return to the small house, and share dinner with Lolan Hill.
At this time, the season slowly shifted from the blazing summer to the cool autumn.
Night, in the courtyard’s small house.
The fireplace built with stones burned with flames, and the wood crackled softly. Lolan Hill sat on a wooden chair beside it, carefully sewing a small dress with needle and thread.
Opposite her on another chair sat a delicate doll half a meter tall. This doll had snow-white hair and wore a black Gothic dress. The long sleeves and hem had several layers of blue pleats, and in the center of the chest was an ice-blue gem.
Between the snow-white hair, an ice-blue rose hairband adorned her, making her look extremely beautiful.
This doll was the body Lolan Hill made for Yixuegelin, to use in school. The doll’s limbs were crafted from red maple wood, possessing extraordinary qualities, very resilient and not easily ignited by fire. The pupils were made of gems.
The orange-red flames illuminated the quiet girl. She held another snow-white little dress that was slowly taking shape, while the doll opposite her slowly opened her eyes.
