Chapter 41: Dragon Beast Brother, You’ve Worked Hard!
In response to Airael’s words, Axi nodded in agreement.
This Dragon Beast was indeed something else.
However, the tactics concerning the Dragon Beast and the Giant Bear still had flaws.
Their upper hand was largely due to the Dragon Beast’s sudden surge just now, which had caught the Orcs off guard.
Once the Orcs adjusted, I believed the situation would turn around.
Just as Axi was pondering these thoughts, Airael asked, “Axi, have you ever slain a dragon?”
Axi was so lost in thought that he didn’t catch it clearly, responding instead with, “Ailia, what did you just say?”
“Have you ever slain a dragon?”
Airael had to ask again.
One of the pieces of intel she had bought earlier had gone unnoticed at first, but now she was curious.
With the subject right here, surely it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
This time, realizing the question, Axi froze slightly before shaking his head and responding, “No!”
Airael seemed a bit skeptical. “Really? But I heard you’re a dragon-slaying warrior.”
Axi replied again, “Really, no! Dragons aren’t that easy to kill. If they can fly, I’ve got nothing against them. After all, I can’t fly.”
After saying that, Axi looked quite helpless.
That was a very objective fact.
Facing an enemy that can fly while you can’t, when they soar up high, there’s really nothing you can do.
Dragons are a flying species, after all.
It’s safe to say that dragons have become synonymous with strength also because they can fly.
Moreover, they don’t just fly; they can fight on land, at sea, and dive into the water, making them incredibly versatile.
The biggest downside of such a species is their difficulty in reproducing.
Their reproductive capacity is far worse than that of the Elven Race.
Most of their offspring are those Dragon Beasts of varying strengths.
“Alright then, have you killed a Dragon Beast?”
“I have!”
This time Axi gave a firm answer.
Dragon Beasts, especially those belonging to the same earth-type category as the one here, could neither fly nor swim.
While they might be stronger in other aspects than the Dragon Race, they were, comparatively, much easier to deal with.
At least these earth Dragon Beasts couldn’t shift the battlefield to the sea or the sky.
In those two places, ground-bound Humans would lose their advantages.
Besides, if they really wanted to leave, it wouldn’t be easy to stop them.
“Alright, I’ve got it.”
Airael immediately understood.
Rumors were indeed rumors, with low credibility.
Next, Airael settled down again, patiently waiting for their chance to strike.
Axi also refocused his attention on the battlefield before him.
Just as he had foreseen, the Orcs quickly adapted to the rhythm of the two giant beasts and launched effective counterattacks.
The Dragon Beast received several wounds, all inflicted by Sam’s relentless swings of his wolf bone club.
The Dragon Beast had at least a layer of scales for protection, but the Giant Bear relied solely on its own tough skin.
Although the Orcs it faced weren’t as strong as Sam, their numbers were plenty, and there were often Orc Riding Wolves launching surprise attacks.
Their claws and teeth left little cuts all over it.
Though, when compared to its massive body, they seemed insignificant, once those small wounds accumulated, they could become serious.
After sustaining so many injuries, the Giant Bear’s movements had begun to slow significantly.
Of course, to achieve such a victory, the Orcs had to pay a substantial price.
They had lost several fellow Orcs and added more wounded to their ranks.
Even Sam, in a moment of carelessness, was sent flying by the Dragon Beast with a swift swipe, crashing into a big tree and spitting out a mouthful of blood.
The Dragon Beast’s immense power was evident.
But Sam quickly got back up, anger showing on his face, and picked up the fallen wolf bone club to continue fighting the Dragon Beast.
Having learned from his earlier experience, Sam was now more cautious.
“Roar!”
First, he let out a roar to boost his momentum.
Then, his eyes locked onto the Dragon Beast, not missing any of its movements.
As a result, things got worse for the Dragon Beast.
Once up close, Sam began to hammer down his wolf bone club onto the Dragon Beast relentlessly.
Especially when he struck those scales that had already cracked, exposing flesh beneath, the Dragon Beast couldn’t help but let out a painful roar.
The Dragon Beast’s cries exhilarated Sam, and he swung even harder.
Though Airael couldn’t witness the scene with her own eyes, just hearing the sounds made her silently pray for the Dragon Beast.
Dragon Beast brother, please hold on!
Although your enemy is formidable, remember, you’re not weak either.
You’re a Dragon Beast capable of breathing dragon fire.
If you were to die just like that, your glorious future would be lost.
Don’t you want to become a Dragon Beast that surpasses dragons?
Yet, praying was just that—praying. Moreover, Airael wasn’t truly sincere in her prayer for the Dragon Beast.
So, the Dragon Beast continued to suffer brutal hits from Sam.
Both she and Axi were hoping to reap the benefits, with both giant beasts and the Orcs being their targets.
If either side won easily, it would not bode well for Airael and Axi.
What they needed was for both combatants to suffer heavy losses, even if one side came out victorious, they should emerge battered.
Witnessing the Dragon Beast’s plight, Axi turned his head away, feeling somewhat sympathetic.
Dragon Beast brother, you really have it rough!
Compared to the Dragon Beast, the Giant Bear was faring much better.
Although those Orcs and Riding Wolves were bothersome, relying on its thick skin, they could inflict wounds, but to deal a fatal blow was out of the question.
“Axi, when do we strike?”
After listening a little longer, Airael finally couldn’t hold back any longer.
She feared that the Dragon Beast would be slain by the Orcs at any moment, which would mean the Giant Bear wouldn’t last much longer either.
“Ailia, let’s wait a bit longer.”
Axi responded.
Although he was anxious himself, he still intended to hold out a little longer.
While speaking, his eyes were glued to the Dragon Beast.
Despite being battered by Sam, the Dragon Beast still stood its ground.
It was very tenacious.
Hearing Axi’s words, Airael could only continue to wait patiently.
On the battlefield, the Dragon Beast’s roars had turned hoarse.
However, Sam showed no signs of stopping.
Although he was somewhat out of breath from continuous attacks, now was not the time to let up.
He had to seize the opportunity to determine the outcome, not allowing the Dragon Beast a moment to recover.
