“Reality”
“Sheng Year 741, June 18th, 17:10”
“Evaluation: Congratulations, Host, you’ve unlocked another rare way to die.”
“Although you managed to gather some intelligence through the art of conversation, is that enough? Believe in yourself, you can do better.”
“Take it, this is what you deserve based on your performance.”
“Reward: Mortality Point*3”
“Mortality Point: 31”
Xia’er woke up from bed, and the moment she opened her eyes, she immediately rolled off and grabbed her handbag, rushing out of the room.
Stepping out onto the street after opening the front door, the sun was setting, yet the street remained bustling.
After running out of Clock Tower Lane District, Xia’er boarded a public carriage, paying four pence for the fare and receiving a ticket.
This was currently the fastest way for her to reach the central police station. She hoped Aivana was still there.
The carriage, pulled by two horses, was bumpy, with two rows of wooden benches inside, capable of seating nearly twenty passengers. Even the top of the rectangular cabin had seats.
Xia’er found a seat and began sorting through the events she experienced in the simulation in her mind.
She now knew several things.
First, on June 19th, tomorrow, when the church reports four patients dying from dehydration within a day, the spread of dehydration syndrome will accelerate.
Second, it’s likely someone is performing a replication ritual for rank advancement, guessing it’s the “Plague Messenger” advancing to “Cholera Origin.”
Third, the Salvation Goddess Religion cannot handle such a large-scale infection and has turned to the Redemption Society for help. Once the area is quarantined, the Redemption Society will start investigating the cause of dehydration from the periphery towards the center.
Fourth, on July 4th at noon, sixteen days later, an outbreak of dehydration will occur in the settlement centered around the Clock Tower Church. Infected individuals will be drained of their body fluids in less than half a minute…
Xia’er understood what the system meant by saying she could do better. At least now, she regretted not getting Adelle’s contact information sooner.
If she could have contacted Adelle earlier, she could have used Adelle to find the elusive High Priestess Yulis and pass along this information, potentially preventing some issues or developing a cure earlier.
Now, she had no choice but to find Aivana and try to convey these messages through her. Fortunately, the Order’s Eye Pact exists, making it safer to tell Aivana than to report it herself, since Aivana wouldn’t betray her.
Xia’er’s immediate goal in reality was not only to get Aivana to report the situation as soon as possible but also to arrange for her sister to leave Clock Tower Lane District early.
The earlier Li Qi left Clock Tower Lane District, the safer she would be. Before ensuring Li Qi’s safety, Xia’er couldn’t focus on the next simulation.
The public carriage stopped near the police station. Xia’er got off directly and rushed toward the station.
The officer at the reception seemed to recognize Xia’er—after all, her red hair was hard to forget—and did not stop her from going upstairs.
She stood at the end of the corridor on the third floor, outside the investigation department, and knocked on the door.
After a while, just as Xia’er thought no one was inside…
After a while, Aivana’s voice echoed from inside.
“Who is it?”
“Miss Aivana, it’s Xia’er,” Xia’er replied at the door.
Another dozen seconds passed, and Aivana’s voice came again, “Come in.”
Xia’er opened the door, and at that moment, Xia’er’s eyebrows subtly furrowed.
There were no other police officers in uniform in the office, but next to Aivana’s desk stood two people in black robes with silver raven masks around their necks.
One of them was a young girl with silver hair, none other than Adelle.
Xia’er nodded slightly to the two black-robed figures, and Adelle, along with the tall, bespectacled brown-haired man in black robes, responded with a smile.
“Is there something you need, Miss Xia’er?” Aivana asked calmly, looking directly into Xia’er’s eyes. “We don’t have any work today.”
Why would the Redemption Society be meeting with Aivana at the police station?
Could it be that the Salvation Goddess Religion has started cooperating with the Redemption Society?
No, that can’t be right. According to High Priestess Yulis, the Church will start reporting the investigation only after four people die at the Church Hospital tomorrow. At this time, the Redemption Society should not yet have begun working with the Salvation Goddess Religion.
It must be that Aivana personally contacted the Redemption Society…
If Aivana found the Redemption Society before the Church did, then why didn’t she appear at all during those simulated ten days? She didn’t even ask for the investigation results. She doesn’t seem like someone who would break their word.
“Miss Aivana, I have urgent matters to discuss with you. May we speak alone?” Xia’er asked.
“No problem, go ahead. We were leaving anyway,” Adelle said, putting on her mask and speaking to the person beside her. “Let’s go, Professor Russell.”
The person called Russell turned his head towards Aivana and smiled, saying, “Thank you for your intelligence, Miss Russell. I’ll leave the rest to my student. Goodbye.”
After he finished speaking, the man put on his mask and nodded politely to Xia’er as he passed by, then left with Adelle.
Xia’er did not choose to directly interact with Adelle because there was another suspected Extraordinary Person beside her.
The fewer people who knew about Xia’er’s identity, the better.
Once they left, Xia’er closed the door and walked toward Aivana.
“Is there something you need, Miss Xia’er?” Aivana asked from her seat, looking up at Xia’er.
“I want to make a deal with you,” Xia’er said directly, taking out the Avenger Elixir from her canvas bag and placing it on Aivana’s desk. “Story or potion?”
Aivana’s mind momentarily froze.
Just hours ago, she had met a pretty ordinary girl, and now, Xia’er was placing a bottle of potion in front of her and wanting to make a deal.
What kind of development is this?
And she asked, “Story or potion?”
This ordinary girl named Xia’er even knew about her journey…
But from every angle, she still seemed just an ordinary girl.
Aivana suppressed the surprise in her eyes. After shifting her gaze away from the potion, she looked back at Xia’er.
“Can I ask what this is about first? Why did you come to me?” Aivana asked.
