Chapter 409: Waiter

The cruise ship ‘Eastern Great’, cabin.

Triton stood before the mirror, carefully checking his attire, looking for any wrinkles, corners, loose threads, or dust.

“Alen, could you help me check?” He still felt somewhat uneasy.

Alen walked over, circled him closely, and then said, “No problem.”

“Is that so.” He let out a sigh of relief and sat down.

Although in the eyes of several young ladies, this guy had an extraordinary mental fortitude, only he knew that this was all just a facade. However, he had a natural ability: his facial expressions didn’t fluctuate much with his emotions, which helped conceal some flaws.

“In fact, I’m a bit regretful, Alen,” he said, sitting by the window and gazing at the night scenery outside, the moonlit sea, tranquil and vast.

“You’re still regretting? It doesn’t show,” Alen replied, resting his hands behind his head, lying on the bed, looking at this long-time companion.

“Yes, before everything started, I had a strong impulse, but after actually doing it, I found myself thinking too simplistically, with too many loopholes. If it fails, I can’t even imagine what will happen next…”

“Calm down, Triton. Everything has just begun, it’s not that bad yet. Besides, those young ladies aren’t ordinary people; they’ll have various solutions when the time comes.”

“Alen, actually, among us, your mental fortitude is the best, isn’t it?” Triton turned around to look at this handsome youth with a harmless and charming face.

“No, I’m just an ordinary carriage driver,” Alen waved his hand.

Seeing him deny it, Triton didn’t object but recalled the days from a few years ago.

His mother passed away early, and he followed his father to work in Yubaire. His father worked hard for the Filura Chamber of Commerce and was appreciated by one of the managers, but later died in an accident. The manager pitied him and hired him as a doorman and waiter at the hotel.

This job wasn’t strenuous, and the hotel provided meals, accommodation, and lodging, considered a good job by most.

At first, he thought so too, but gradually, things changed.

When he was 15, he followed a senior to serve guests in a luxurious room where three 15-16 year-old boys and a 9-year-old girl were seated.

Filura’s young master had sneaked out with his sister to play and meet his friends.

“It’s been a while. Recently, my dad has been keeping me on a tight leash, hiring a Sequence 6 teacher for me,” the young master complained.

“Haha, how unlucky. My dad has given up on me and is grooming my younger brother instead,” one of the boys replied.

“Forget it, let’s not talk about this. Recently, our family got a batch of rare wines from the Eastern Region. Let’s try them out,” he continued.

The senior cautiously took out a carved small jar from a box, uncorked it, and a fragrant wine aroma filled the air.

“Come, drink up,” the boy invited his companions, then poured himself a glass first.

“Cough, cough, that’s strong!” After taking a sip, he threw the cup aside, and the others laughed. They chatted for a while before abandoning the jar.

Afterward, the senior secretly sold the jar of wine, giving a little hush money to avoid getting caught. But this ‘little’ hush money amounted to three years of his salary.

From that day on, he realized there were many opportunities in this world, and working honestly was too slow.

He slowly got involved in some gray areas of the hotel, making extra money. One day, during the chaos and fire in the city, he discovered a chance—Filura Chamber of Commerce’s missing young lady, Luna.

If he could control and retain her, he might gain huge benefits in the future. So, he rushed into the fire and rescued the child.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. The Filura Chamber of Commerce completely lost power. This wasn’t a small fight between chambers; it was a battle between countries. The fleet of Rourna’s airships attacked, and mages descended from the sky, defeating rescue teams from branches, ultimately uprooting the Filura Chamber of Commerce.

His own thoughts slowly sank, no longer hoping. Fortunately, he had Alen, who had similar experiences, and Sulis, who was close to him. With their mutual help, Luna didn’t become a burden.

Years of hotel work allowed him to see many decadent and intriguing scenes, making him increasingly intolerant of a mundane life.

He wanted to experience the thrill of a carefree life, and this thought lingered until the unexpected success of this plan.

Today, he would dress like the upper class and participate in the banquet.

This time, he wouldn’t be a humble waiter but a respected guest enjoying their services.

Excitement, anxiety, anticipation, worry—all these emotions stirred in his heart as he slowly stood up and pushed open the door.

“Let’s go, Alen.”

“Huh.” Lily patted her almost non-existent chest and returned to her seat.

“Never been this exciting before. Following you always leads to new experiences,” she whispered.

“A saying goes, geniuses and chosen ones are like whirlpools, attracting heroes from all sides,” Alena said.

“Are you saying I was too ordinary before?” Lily joked back.

“But this feeling is quite new,” she recalled the handsome man from earlier.

“Really? You’re actually falling for him,” Alena exaggeratedly said.

“I’ll hit you!” The girls teased.

Triton entered the banquet in the middle of the ship, admiring the colorful lights and the dancing figures under the chandeliers. He hesitated for a moment, then moved to a corner.

He wanted to observe and adapt. Alen followed him.

“Sir, what would you like to drink?” A waiter in a short vest and white shirt approached, holding a tray with several types of drinks.

The waiter’s face was handsome but not overly sharp, making him likable. His clothes were fitting and neat, even with a large tray, the glasses remained steady, not spilling a drop, the white tablecloth on the tray spotless.

As a former waiter, Triton naturally knew the skill required and the attractive appearance, both chosen from thousands.

“I’ll have a White Dew,” Alen picked one and the waiter placed the glass on the table.

“What about you, sir?” He looked at the seated Triton, his gaze calm, showing no surprise, curiosity, or discrimination, just like any other guest.
