Chapter 408: Chance Encounter at the Ball
Due to the lights not being particularly bright, the quiet entrance of several girls did not attract much attention; only a few waiters came over with trays, asking if they needed drinks or various types of alcohol.
After finishing their meal, the group did not want to drink anything more. After waving off the offer, they walked to the corner of the dance floor to observe first.
Four girls sat around a small round table, chatting quietly.
“It feels like there are many middle-aged uncles and aunts,” Alena muttered out of place.
“Giggles, I told you you might be disappointed,” Lily said with a smile.
“In fact, the young nobles of Crisp prefer riding horses across the wilderness, enjoying the scenery of different places. Traveling by ship seems too calm and slow to them. Therefore, most nobles who travel by ship tend to be older.”
However, that wasn’t always the case. Three girls in elaborate puffy dresses were dancing in the center of the dance floor, attracting the attention of many people around. After each dance, several well-dressed men would step forward and bow to invite them, and these girls would choose someone they liked to dance with.
Now, after another dance ended, these three girls stepped out of the dance floor to rest, just opposite Lolan Hill, allowing everyone to see their faces and attire.
In terms of looks, these three were quite good, but still fell short of the top tier. Even Alena was slightly better than them. At least in Lolan Hill’s eyes, Alena looked more refreshing and attractive. The Rococo-style dress opposite her seemed overly decorated, like a heavy vase, making it difficult to showcase the wearer’s own charm. Perhaps this was what they hoped for.
After sitting down, several gentlemen invited them, but were refused by the three girls. Then, a few more men approached. The emphasis was on the subtle inharmoniousness in their appearance.
Their clothes were finely made like the others, but there were subtle differences in their expressions and movements, unlike the previous few who seemed open and natural. Instead, they had various unconscious little actions.
Looking at the wrinkles on their skin and forehead, one could tell they weren’t young.
One of them stepped forward and said something to one of the girls, who shook her head and refused, not wanting to talk further. But the others walked up as if to support him, adding more words.
Already somewhat annoyed, one of the three girls frowned and poured a cup of wine in front of the man.
“Disgusting.” The voice wasn’t loud, but very clear, drawing the attention of many around.
Soon, several proper gentlemen came over, and after some persuasion, these men left the table of the three girls and slowly moved to another side.
“Pretending to be high and mighty, aren’t you just a baron?” One of them complained.
“Hush, keep your voice down, there are many nobles here in Crisp.”
“What do we have to fear? We still need to ask Frost Rose to build ships for us, and we’re already in our seas.”
As they talked, they moved toward a slightly dimmer light. One of them suddenly noticed Alena sitting in a corner, his eyes lighting up. He immediately changed direction and walked straight over.
At this moment, Lolan Hill and Keti were facing away from these people, and with the chair back’s cover, the two prettier girls went unnoticed.
Lolan Hill faintly sensed something and placed her hand on Keti’s hand, holding and comforting the girl before looking at Alena opposite and winking at her.
As Extraordinary Beings, the four naturally heard and saw the earlier events, knowing full well the ill intentions of these three.
Seeing Lolan Hill’s signal, Alena, as a former roommate, understood her meaning: since you brought us out, you should take the lead in solving the problem.
So she stood up directly, stepping forward steadily, positioning herself behind Lolan Hill and Keti, blocking the view of the three people advancing towards them.
Seeing the black dress and purple silk-clad girl taking such initiative, the three felt rather pleased, their smiles spreading like pumpkins in the fields.
“Who is this miss?”
“My name is Letis, from the capital of the Clock Tower, Mozwah,” Alena said without blushing or hesitating, causing Lily behind her to widen her eyes.
“Pleased to meet you, we are…” These people introduced themselves, roughly saying they were merchants from Yubaire, then showing off, indicating how rich and wealthy they were, almost as if they had money printed on their foreheads.
Then they shifted their tone, hoping Alena would dance with them and hinted at various benefits, fame, and interests.
Alena took a glass of wine from a nearby waiter’s tray, holding it in her hand and stepping back half a step, creating some distance. She didn’t want these people to get too close. Their eager gazes were unhidden, no wonder the three girls opposite found them disgusting.
While Alena dealt with these people, several noble youths on the dance floor also noticed them, some even preparing to come out and help.
“Not yet, that girl isn’t simple,” a companion pulled him back, sensing that Alena had at least Sequence 4 strength.
“You don’t understand, keeping a beautiful girl elegant is also a gentleman’s duty,” this youth walked up.
“Nice to meet you all, I am…” This youth deliberately gave a long introduction, starting from his ancestors to modern times, slowly inserting himself between Alena and the three people.
“You—” One of them was impatient, seeing Alena about to leave, he hurriedly reached out to push the youth, but his wrist felt like hitting an iron pillar, immovable.
Immediately after, the youth pressed down on this person’s hand.
“Where is this gentleman from, acting so rudely as to touch a man,” he asked.
“Who said that? I only ever touch women,” the other responded without hesitation. Such clumsy and direct desires caused the surrounding people to turn and look, emitting a series of disapproving sounds.
Seeing this scene, the few people felt their pride couldn’t hold up anymore and left the hall dejectedly.
After successfully rescuing the beauty, this youth turned around with considerable satisfaction and pride, only to find that Alena had long been sitting aside drinking fruit wine, watching the performance elsewhere.
This made him feel a bit awkward, but fortunately, Lily came over and offered a toast.
“Thank you for your help, my companion isn’t good at socializing, so let me toast you instead,” Lily raised her glass skillfully.
Looking at the somewhat cute Lily, the youth’s anger had long dissipated, and he raised his glass as well.
“A trivial matter, nothing worth mentioning,” he drank the cup in one go.
“I’m Fenger, from South Reef County, what about you?”
